I overnighted my membership and cd applications as well as checks on Saturday to the Corporate Blvd address and just got a note via email they were delivered at 10:04am. I also faxed both on Saturday. I hope they go through ok.

Not trying to be mean or anything, but why didn't you just do everything today when you went in?
I was waiting to get a member number... you know, follow the rules and such. I also know that my BOA check won't clear until Tuesday or Wednesday. I also didn't feel like waiting in line and figured I'd risk that it would be open in the morning.
My bad, I'll live with it and just pout.

Sending off my membership app, cd app, two checks, driver's license photo, and confirmation of alumni association docs in the mail tomorrow (my funds become available tomorrow in GMAC). Fingers crossed!
Also, on the phone the CSR hinted that if you open a big CD, as I am for 200k, there is a very slim chance they will turn you down b/c "money talks" is what he said! Again, fingers crossed!

You need to mail everything in eventually but they will accept a faxed CD application to lock you into the offer. Atleast they did for me! You don't have to if you don't want to though.
What screwed me up was my decision to apply for a share on Friday before the offer opened. I should have just gone in on Saturday or Monday and did the whole deal in one shot, and prayed they didn't cash my check until Tuesday. That probably would have worked if I did it today.
Oh well. I'm going to check to see if my member number is in the system tommorrow morning. If so, I'll try to open a CD in branch. If not, I'll do a similar package and fire it off to the magical address. I wish I had 200K, but I really can only go about 110.

I just opened the 5.7% cd at Indymac and the started paying interest last thursday and my funds are still in GMAC as of today (Monday). Nice 5 days at least of $60 a day double interest. Hopefully we get in here and get a few double days also on top of this great offer!

I called and spoke with a CSR a bit earlier. He confirmed that SECU will honor the application that I sent in by postal mail on Saturday. He said that it needs to be postmarked before the deadline. I'm not sure what the deadline is - maybe today?
edit: can anyone email me a copy? thanks in advance.

I spoke to 3 different CSRs today, all whom gave me the same info - they wouldn't process my app if it came via fax, and that I needed to send a paper check in for $10 before I could wire in the funds for the CD. They told me that as a Johns Hopkins Alumni, I'd be just fine (although it wasn't listed on the website). The CSR told me that applications received by Fedex/UPS would be active in their system within 24 hours of receipt.
Based on this info, I fedexed next day the account application, the CD app (marked "funds to come via wire"), a photocopy of my D/L license and US passport, and an official Johns Hopkins transcript.
3 hours later, someone else I had left a voicemail with called me back, and said that the 3 previous CSRs were wrong, and that JHU did not count as one of the approved universities.
Thus, when I speak to someone in Member services tomorrow afternoon, they're probably going to want another reason to let me become a member.
I quickly registered this evening at CCBC (community college of baltimore county) for:
TIS THE SEASON TO BE SINGING - MUS 104 - A Associated Term Continuing Ed 2007-2008 Term Credits 0.000 CRN 80986
It cost me $12, is 0 credits, but lets me be a student.
For that price, I probably won't even bother dropping out of the course - and will consider it a donation to the community college system.
With any luck, this should all go through, and my recent BT will become even more profitable than planned.

I'm opening a CD with $110k of 0% BT money. I made an executive (hah) decision to pay a couple extra bucks to guarantee it'd get in before they closed the deal. I realize it only went live on the 29th, but something in my gut told me that with all of FW Finance sending in applications, that they'd shut it down pronto.
I'm pretty damn happy I made that decision now. To lose out and miss the deal because of a desire to save $20 would have been a damn shame.

so u paid $75 for overnight? Its $75 from CA to MD overnight
SECU allows 200K CD per member. My husband and me already purchase 300K CD. We sill have additional cash in hand. Is it wise to purchase the maxinum allowance 400K CD? Do anyone know SECU?
How is SECU fininacial status. How can SECU to make profit? How to manage wisely our additional cash in hand? Do anyone have any suggestion? Thanks you for your advice.

First, I went to USPS, and they told me I'd missed the cut-off for express mail arriving on Monday. I drove over to FedEx, and they said it would be $21 to arrive in the PM and $23 to arrive in the AM. I paid for AM delivery. sooo worth it, as I'm now able to view my CD online.
I told my mother on Saturday to overnight her apps and checks, and she ignored my advice [as usual]. She FedExed it today. We'll see, I guess...

You should be able to get all $400K insured by the NCUA. Make sure this is set up properly and you won't have to worry about SECU's financial status.

Some random person on a blog says "deal as dead" and that's enough to confirm it's over? Maybe they just pulled it from their website. The CSR I spoke to today said they'd be accepting applications at the branch for days to come (at least through tomorrow).

Longtime fatwallet lurker here. I wired all my funds from FNBO to my local bank and drew a cashiers check. So far no transfer fee was reflected on my FNBO account but I believe it is $15. I called SECU and spoke to CSR Denise to ask who to make the checks out to. She said make the $10 check out to myself and make the cd check out to SECU. I asked her 3 times if SECU was correct and she affirmed. She asked if I was overnighting the apps in and I said yes she replied "excellent." I overnighted the 5 items around 5:30 PM today to:
SECU ATTN: Member Services 971 Corporate Blvd. Linthicum, MD 21090-2337
(which two different CSRs confirmed as the correct address). Fedex got me for $22 for 10:30 AM delivery. Fair enough.
On the account app I marked myself as a student of CCBC. I enrolled online in "real estate investing" for $99. It is a continuing education course. I got my fingers crossed but whether I get the bonus or not thnx to FW for being such an awesome source of info

Using a cashiers check is foolish. I am currently earning double interest and probably will for the next 3 days or more if last year was any guide. Just use a normal check on an interest bearing account.

Yeah, as long as BofA does not screw up my incoming wire before SECU presents the checks. I sent a check from NEA MMA, but for more than I have there.

Bad boy. My checks are also Bofa NEA account but I have money in my account. If SECU call BofA to verify funds you will be screwed. Not only will your 9.36% apy vanish into thin air but you can also be charged for kiting.

Yes you are OK. When questioning who to make the checks out to, I mentioned to CSR Denise that other people I had talked to made their checks out to "New Account, For Deposit only" and other things. She said that was OK too but that SECU was the best choice.
