I'd like to see some confirmation that joining the alumni association will make you eligible to join the credit union.

I'd hate to blow $50 on a wild goose chase.

The 5.00% APY is what concerns me. The APY is supposed to encompass all fees and bonuses. The fact that the bonus is separate is odd.

Another odd thing is the fact that the CD term is 7 months, with interest compounded and paid quarterly. At the end of the term, do you have to wait two more months for the last payment?

Now, I know some of you got a similar "deal" last year. If you did, did you confirm that you really got all the interest you had coming? I would hate for someone to jump through these hoops just to end up with 5.00% APY which you can get almost anywhere.

That said, with the lower 2.25% bonus quoted, I calculate $5114 interest over 7 months on $100K for a revised APY of 8.766%.
This is a very good point, has it been confirmed that this 2.5% promo is extra to the 5%, or are they somehow just doing fancy advertising and giving half of your total earned interest up front (this letting your principal be a hair bigger up front?). I assume it isn't, but can't hurt to look into.

So is this the plan:

1) Sign up to Join UM alumni association for $55

2) Open a checking account to get the the $100 promo with direct deposit ($50) and online billpay/online statements (another $50).

3) Collect $10,833.33 after 7 months with max deposit of 200k

EDIT: Links fixed. I just called and the CSR seemed very knowledgable about the CD, she said the final payment of interest is added at the end of 7th month and confirmed the bonus is 2.5%; time will tell. In regards to becoming a SECU member she told me to sign up for the UM alumni association On another note I see this turning into a begging thread begging to be moded Anyone know if PPal will be considered direct deposit? Searched the payal thread no tests yet.

Nice, former State of MD workers are eligible. I'm in!

Hmmm. No Washington College Alumni

I am new to FW and have found the financial section very helpful. It has been my experience that both Google Adsense Revenues and Amazon Affiliate Revenues and the like are considered direct deposits. as well as Pay Pal. I am not sure that this would be the case with every bank or CU though.

Are there any advantages by signing up UM alumni such as able to get Dell EPP deals? Can anyone adopt me as a family member just for the deal?

I called the customer service, he said i can open a saving ac to become a member. Also, all I need to do is to keep the balance as little as $10. Is that true?

Well, I researched last year's 12-month SECU CD and the 5.00% APY plus 2.5% bonus really did end up paying an effective 7.62% APY.

So this ~9% APY deal may be for real! Congrats to all who qualify. Just make sure you withdraw the funds during the grace period!

Anyone know if they do a hard pull on opening?

I was told no hard pull when I called...need someone from the old thread to verify that one

I plan to open a checking tommorrow (especially if there is no hard pull). Anyway I can go in on Saturday and open the CD, but wait until Tuesday to fund it? I have my FNBO money in limbo. I'm sacraficing weekend interest and two days of 6% to get it into my BOA checking ASAP. I'd hate for this to close before I'm able to land it.

Once I get set up (I worked for the State last year), I'll be happy to share my member number.

That situation (with $ at FNBO) is one that I am in, and why I am very happy to have GMAC. Seeing as the 6% ends tomorrow, and today just happens to be Thursday, i transferred 99k out of FNBO to GMAC. If I can get a number from a very kind and generous FW member, and get in this offer, I will write a check from GMAC to fund the CD after opening (5 day grace period or so to fund I believe here). In doing this, I get 3 days double interest on the FNBO --> GMAC transfer and 3-6 days double interest by using a check to fund the CD (assuming they start paying interest like most upon receipt of the check, not at clearing ) GMAC may not have the best rate, but thier one business day later debiting policy policy sure can be nice and serve as a transfer hub as there are no limit to connected accounts.

Not sure, but if there's ever a time to take a hard pull, it would be now!

If did not graduate from maryland, should I fill in last name as maiden name/graduation name? Also, what campus should I list? Simply put Maryland down?

I didn't want to risk the alumni association, so I signed up for an online class ($85 + $10 out of state fee).
However, the rep I talked with on the phone seemed unconcerned about any of it. Do you guys really think they confirm?

Benefit over the alumni assn. is that I found a class that seemed pretty cool. So worse case scenario is I get a (hopefully) decent online class for $95.
