This proves that one member can have multiple CDs. Mine would be delivered by USPS today ...2 CDs in my name and 1 in my wifes name ...nice

As long as the total amount per member is less than 200K, you can have as many of these CD's as you want. These are the terms from CD application:

– Maximum deposit of $200,000 in Giving Thanks Certificates per member/business.
– Maximum bonus amount of $5,000 total per member/business.

I think if you wanted to go up to 400K, you need a membership number for both you and your wife. I think you can have your wife as a joint account holder or POD, but I'm not sure if that automatically generates a membership number for her.

along with my package I send my wifes application fee for joining secu(based on my membership) and also a cd in her name plus pod on me and kid.

Just called Silver Spring branch office. Deal is over as of 12pm today. Sad that I was too late

I just sent in this morning via USPS overnight Express Mail my Share Savings account application, a copy of my driver's license and 8 Giving Thanks CD applications. I funded everything with 3 checks from various money market accounts so I can earn interest until the checks process and maybe double dip for a day or two.

CSR confirmed to me by phone last evening that the CD promotion would still be going on for at least today (Tuesday) and that multiple CD applications were OK as long as you don't exceed $200,000.00 total. The CSR also told me that one SECU branch alone (? which branch) on Saturday pulled in $4 million with this CD promotion!

It cost $16.25 to overnight via USPS Express Mail and delivery is guaranteed by noon tomorrow. If delivery is not made tomorrow, USPS will refund my entire $16.25. It seems to be a better deal than UPS or FedEx overnight.

Fingers crossed that I get in on this one. Thanks to OP and to all who have posted updates to this thread.

Just got back from my local SECU branch. After waiting in line from 9:15 to 11:30, finally got a chair and I zipped through the process. I'm IN!!! As an added bonus, while I was waiting, I told my brother about the deal and he wired 90K to my checking (while he was in Tokyo). It showed up almost immediatly so I was able to open up a full 200K CD.

I'm super psyched I got in. A lot of people were still in line for it. The front desk woman also told me they are closing it down at noon.

I just came back from there (11:21am). Too bad I don't have time to transfer money from ED. Didn't expect the promotion end so soon. last year it lasted 19 days.

For those who didn't get in on this deal, I don't think there's too much to whine. With the latest Fed rate cut and another one very likely, the CD rates will drop soon. If you lock your money in this deal, you probably will lose the chance to lock in long term CDs of still-high rates.

BTW, a nice representative told me that they probably would have another 5 month term promotion like this one coming out soon. So keep an eye on it.

I just talked to the person who opened my account saturday, they said they got an email that the deal is over sometime today. They said if a family member wants to open I need to show up in person with them today, as long as the deal is still going on. She said they are not honoring any postmarks or mailed in info. Too bad we're all getting conflicting info on that one. I talked a family member into pulling $$ from FNBO but they of course held on to the wire an extra day and a half.

Maybe you can try opening the CD by mail. I called SECU this morning and was told that applications sent by overnight delivery today will be accepted. PM me if you need the name of the CSR I spoke with.

I just talked to a CSR who said it is over today.

I was asking if I would be able to get in on it if I went into a branch tomorrow. Unfortunately, the answer was no. One other CSR told me that this promo went for only 19 days last year. This year (if the CSR was right about it ending today) it was only 4 days. Woah, FW effect! I'm a little bitter though, actually being a U of MD grad, and having missed out on the fun.

"Thank you for choosing SECU online banking.

You have everything that we need. Please overnight that information and make sure this is done today because due to the overwhelming response to this CD today is the closing date but, they have said they will accept applications that are post marked with today’s date. "

You are still golden if you can submit today! I just got this email at 11:51 CST. I'm sending mine in as I type DHL overniht, got a few prepaid overnight DHL envelopes from Costco for $10/ea...I know irrelevant just wanted throw it in because it makes me feel like a true FWer

A phone rep just told me I'm in. FWIW, she told me that they stopped taking apps at 2 PM today (10/2).
Yesterday (10/1) I sent a member app, cd app, driver's license copy and 2 checks via UPS standard overnight. I just signed up for a class at CCBC. Thanks to everyone who added useful info to this thread.

branches closes early today as well. You can always try going to the branches.

I went today and the CD was opened at 1:57pm.

I too am in --- called SECU at 1:58pm today and was told by rep that at 2:00pm the deal ends. As long as I get my mail postmarked with today's date I will be ok.

Thanks to op and others, also to "jackcrawfish" who suggested the continuing education classes at ccmd. I am taking a $12 course of "dance"- maybe I will be on the next dancing with the stars (lol).

Are you in Maryland, will you be attending classes for this dance course? How will anyone be able to sign up for this dance class if they are from out of state?

What if we enroll and don't show up?
