After my successful AOR ->Link, I decided it was time for my wife to jump into the AOR game
I wanted to expand on everything I had learned from the previous AOR and make the results even better. My main changes were: 1. More business cards 2. Use CardSelection.com for all of the offers that are the same to get the cash! 3. Make sure to apply for cards with bonus gift cards (we will be remodeling our bathrooms and I would like to pay for the materials of one bathroom with the proceeds of the combined AOR gift cards)

My Tips and Tricks I have learned through 2 AOR's (will update this later):
1. WAMU and HSBC give crappy limits so don't waste your time on an application from either! 2. cardselection.com is a great way to make a couple hundred extras on the applications you are already going to do! 3. The best way to compile a list of cards is to look through recent AOR's here and look through cardselections.com I compiled this list in about 1.5 hours. 4. Plan the number of applications for each issuer. Try to get as many issuers as possible. 5. Do not do daily pulls through a credit reporting service before the AOR if you do not have hard pulls that you would like to eliminate. 6. Citi is fickle on CLR's they will only do certain types of cards, you will probably have to recharacterize cards to the Diamond preferred to CLR. I tried with the drivers edge (because of the crappy CL) to the professional and I will have to recharacterize the card. 7. You can BT (via check or bank) online with Citi. 8. Chase, BOA, and discover are very easy to CLR. 9. I probably under sold BOA on number of apps after they approved my late app. I think I could have got more. 10. Likewise I probably could have got more chase cards. I am kind of kicking myself for not doing the miles cards then transferring the CL to a 0% I think I could have maximized the rewards a bit better. Figure 25K miles is worth about $450 and 35K is worth about 1K if you can get a Hawaii ticket. 11. Save the trees!! Once autopay is setup, convert to electronic statements and save a forest in Canada! 12. BT over and over on no fee, unlimited BT cards (like Citi and BOA). I have sucessfully deferred payment on 6 month cards by over 10K. Why payback money when you can just re-borrow it again from money already paid back? As a bonus it is a legitimate BT. 13. Don't count out retention bonuss. They can add up. 14. Being a deadbeat (err person with high utilization) has its privilage. The Citi payment partner program.
How I am getting the cash?
Juniper National Parks: Writing check that came with the card to myself AMEX in Chicago: BT'd online to my BOA card from the previous AOR then I will call and have them DD the money Advanta: BT'd online to my BOA card from the previous AOR then I will call and have them DD the money Discover Miles Personal: Sending blank BT checks -> will not use after CLR to the Miles Business Discover Miles Business: No BT checks BT'd online to my BOA card from the previous AOR then I will call and have them DD the money Chase Cards: Reallocating to one business and one consumer card (Sony) then writing one check that came with the cards to myself(saves the $75.00 BT fee) Life Springs: CSR is sending out a check made out to me Citi's Drivers Edge: Used the checks they sent Citi cards: Go online and use the BT offers to either have checks sent to me or deposited directly in the account. USBank card - BT'd to my BOA card from the previous AOR then I will call and have them DD the money. National City Business - BT'd to my BOA card from the previous AOR then I will call and have them DD the money.
1. Reallocation - I think I could have reallocated further on Chase. Obviously the late unexpected arrival is a *must* fee card but I could have reallocated from personal to business to avoid one fee. 2. Figuring out exact payments and timeframe to maximize CD lengths (with interest rates falling I wish I would have locked in for longer)
Adverse action:
Chase is a bunch of clowns!! The timeline is as follows: 11-3-07 make small purchase of $2.11 on the Sony card for the $100.00 bonus. 11-5-07 Pay for the small purchase using their site through a fidelity account (deducted same day). 11-6-07 Reallocate 20.5K (leaving 500) from Priority Club to Sony 11-7-07 Online Sony shows a CL of 29.5K and Priority Club $500 11-8-07 Deposit the check that came with the Sony card for 29.4K to the same account listed above 11-9-07 I apply for a United Card (Chase) and they pull the CR (I figure no biggie) am denied (no balances show on the CR). I really don't care about the denied. 11-14-07 Log on to Chase.com and notice that the Sony card no longer shows up (I think it is just a systems glitch) 11-15-07 Check is returned to Fidelity and deducted from my account. I called and asked the fidelity rep the reason and he said that no reason had been given just that the check had been returned. Next step is to call chase and see what's up. It's total BS that the account just DISAPPEARED without any notification. The Priority club card still shows a $500.00 limit. Called CSR and spent an hour with 3 different people and they unfroze the account and are sending out a new check via UPS. I guess it was not adverse action just their normal fraud prevention.
2-25-08 Advanta did a review from Equifax (sp on 2-8-08) and lowered the limit to 11550. The current balance is 11488. Not that I really care because I won't be taking another draw and you have to cancel Advanta to get a new one on the next AOR. I guess they didn't like the 51% over all utilzation or the 9 cards that are maxed out.
5-5-08 Chase using Experian lowered a business credit limit from 18K -> 16.5K (balance 16.25K) because of high utilization.
6-5-08 Discover lowered a business credit line from 25K -> 21.5K (balance 20.8K) because of high utilization.
6-16-08 Chase strikes again lowering the Sony card limit from 29K -> 26.8K with a balance of 26.4K because of high utilization.

Great post. Thanks for your hard work. Just one question: what does "do not bump your credit" mean?
It means not to do daily pulls on your credit reports through a service like TrueCredit or Privacy matters 123 before your AOR. All you are doing is adding soft pulls on the stack (see the last three posts here and wasting your time and money. After the AOR, you will need the same amount of pulls to bump off the inquiries (if you did 50 pulls before the AOR you will still need 60+ pulls for TU and 90+ for EQ after the AOR to get those Inquiries to fall off).
I'm not talking about a single report but more the daily pulls that you do after to eventually bump off the adverse hard pulls on TU and EQ.
On my first AOR I pulled every day for 2 months at the expense of my time and $11.21/mo
I changed the wording in my post. Thanks

Nice instant on the CitiProfessional. And interesting to see another defective CL on an HSBC card.

Interesting how both Bank Atlantic and Juniper were deferrals. I had instants on both mine and my wife's AOR. I wonder if maybe they are starting to crack down on the big limits.
Pretty much it was card for card the same deferrals and instant approvals I had on my first AOR. The HSBC card was such a joke. How can you call it a platinum card then give a $600 limit to someone with excellent credit. With $600 I could buy 3/8 of an ounce of platinum. I hope those idiots didn't pull experian it would be a shame to waste an un bumpable hard pull on that trash.
DJ - do you actually have a business or are they fake business apps?

I was one of the rare ones that got a 10,500 instant limit for an HSBC card. My wife got the same 600 that you got. They pulled my Equifax and her Experian.
No real business here... other than the one I just started this month.
Is your wife a user on your cards? IE she had no real credit? My wife is joint on our mortgage and on all of the revolving credit, she is just a user.

another data point - my recent WOR just got ~$5500 from the Bank Atlantic business card. I probably won't activate it.
Were you able to get the US Bank offer that says it expires on 9/31? or did you just apply for a card under different terms?
On the citi professional targetted. I assume you are referring to having sent yourself an invitation (for 10K bonus)? Was it an invite in your same name or from your wife's card? Did you do anything special to get the e-mail invite, because I have tried to send one to all of my e-mail addresses and none have actually showed up.
The US bank app went through and the rep (call only) asked my wife if she wanted to do a BT on the spot. She said no. I'll look at the terms and conditions when it arrives but all seemed well.
*** The card did come through with a 0 fee BT offer.
You are right on for the citi card 10K for her (her app) 10K for me. Beats the 15K deal. I didn't do anything for the email request they just sent it to me (my card with my wife as a user). I got the email, clicked it and sent out the invites. I know that they were having an IT glitch because the second time I sent out the email to more names (I always include myself to make sure), it came up with a 5k bonus offer from last year (dated to expire 12/31/06) and "INVMEMNUM" or something like that. Their smtp servers could be backed up. I would just wait.

I was finally able to get one to go through to my gmail account, but I'm wondering if I can refer myself. Yours was ideal because it was your wife referring you, but my wife doesn't have a Professional Card. I do and I understand you can have more than one but I am not sure that referring myself would fly. Has anyone tried this?
I have a professional cash (doing the bt's on) and a professional TY which I use for everyday use. I seriously doubt that they woudl check, I mean a referral is a referral. I doubt they put any smarts in the system and the email is by member number which I think relates to the TYP. Really you are gambling a 5k bonus worst case you only get $100 in gift cards best case (and I think more likely) you get $200.00

Does this BOA Platinum/none/none/none/12/$0/none/none card pull your credit report instantly and give you an answer when you apply?
It was deferred like most cards (other AOR was deferred also). From my past AOR, they did pull my report on the day of application but did take them a week or two to get the card to me.

I have a question: how do you guys differentiate between hard pulls and soft pulls on your credit report?
Most of the reporting services (TrueCredit, NC Identity protect, privacy matters 123, etc) do not even show you the soft pulls (all shown are hard pulls). I know Equifax gold actually shows the soft pulls. In short you really do not know or care what the soft pulls are
The cards are starting to come in bank atlantic denied my wife because of the National Parks card. It may be best for those reading to only apply for one Juniper card if they are cracking down. I got 5K Juniper + 10K Bank Atlantic. My Wife got only $7.5K Juniper.
I must have hit a snafu with my Chase Apps because my wife got 2 business cards and the Sony card (still waiting on the Priority Club) with no problems. Bahhh I wanted the Sony card and the United card. I feel jipped.
For anyone out there that can answer the following questions I would appreciate it because these are new facts on this AOR:
1. Has anyone had success with CLI's with Chase on Activation? 2. Has anyone had success doing a CLR with Chase Business? Ideally I would like to close one business card to avoid the $75.00 BT fee and transfer most of the Sony line to business to avoid the other fee. 3. I got the Sony Card in but no where in the documentation does it say anything about the $100 for first purchase. Is this common place? 4. For American Express In Chicago do they provide a BT check or is it card to card only?

I called Chase tonight but didn't try a CLI on my Sony card
2. Has anyone had success doing a CLR with Chase Business? Ideally I would like to close one business card to avoid the $75.00 BT fee and transfer most of the Sony line to business to avoid the other fee.
Chase CSR told me that you can reallocate personal to business and they will also direct deposit to your bank account although I don't know if this applies to the business cards or not. My call was for the Sony card and she told me it would not be a problem to do this.
3. I got the Sony Card in but no where in the documentation does it say anything about the $100 for first purchase. Is this common place?
This is an interesting story. The reason I called Chase was when went to Chase online last night to check about a new statement I had, I found out that not only was I approved for the Sony card but there was also already a $100 credit posted to this account. I was shocked and couldn't believe it so I needed verification that they wouldn't yank the credit away as if it was a mistake or something. She told me that after checking on this, it was mine although I still needed to make a purchase. I got the actual card in the mail today and like you, there was nothing in the terms about the $100 credit. So I would check Chase online or sign up and register the Sony card. You just might get lucky and the credit is there already.
4. For American Express In Chicago do they provide a BT check or is it card to card only?
Do NOT use the checks they send with the card as they are CASH ADVANCE checks at something like 29%. Use card to card only with AMEX. I double dipped BOA as I did a reallocation of BOA CL's to the Platinum then transfered to my bank. With AMEX, I transfered from my INNYC card to my BOA platinum and after it hit the card, I called BOA and did another transfer directly to my bank account. Hope this helps

So I have been rolling on the BT's. Citi's redesigned site sucks! You can no longer make a payment when your statement balance is $0.00. Last AOR I would make a small charge, then immediately pay it when it hit. All of the small purchases that were made to earn the TY points will need to be billed via statement before I can pay them off and get the Citi BT's. The BOA cards are MIA much like my Chase cards were on my AOR. Overall though, good success and no real suprises.

Use an external bill-paying software with a different bank to make your immediate payments.

Thanks. I use Fidelity Bill pay so I may give it a whirl. Although I am not losing any 0% time (just stretching the AOR out) because Citi gives 12 months from the first BT. I will try bill pay though.

Now if they'll just do the same for the BT I overpaid to my Diamond Card, it would save tons of time in waiting for check to be issued, mailed, deposited, etc.

The Chase Adverse action has started see the second post in this thread for details! Total BS that they just make an account Disappear!!!

Have you called Chase yet? It might be adverse action, it might not.
In my first orama, I got 4 new Chase cards. At different times, each one was temporarily frozen by the fraud department (disappeared from online access), and I had to call and validate info, and the card got reactivated. 4 freezings over 3 weeks. It was a big pain, but it wasn't really adverse action.
That's exactly what happened! I talked with 3 different CSR reps and finally got it straightened out. I think it is total BS though because they have to send out a new check and I will lose about 2 weeks worth of interest. I tried everything to get them to extend the 0% or waive the BT fee, nothing. All they did was UPS the check out instead of regular mail. I asked them if this was standard procedure and why couldn't they just call instead of not honoring the check? They really had no answer.
On a side note I did get the $100.00 1st purchase credit finally so that was cool.
My wife also got the BOA cards in today and reallocated the NEA card to the Platinum Plus. BTW she does this with me on the speaker phone and says "talk to my husband" about all of this because she really doesn't care about any of this. While he was moving the CL I made sure that there was no fee and he said "I checked that for you before I started the process." I thought it was pretty cool to check that without being asked. I then asked for the DD to my fidelity account (UMB bank). The CSR said that he couldn't DD to that bank because it is a clearing house for outher financial institutions. I said that they had done multiple DD's to that exact account from my number. He said that he could DD it to a regular account but the previous CSR made a mistake. I asked why.
And I quote. "Sir, when we are loaning out money at very low interest rates, the bank loses money and the bean counters only want the money to go to certain accounts. SOOOMMMMEEE financially savvy people use the money for needs other than our intended purpose. I can just DD the money to a regular checking account then you can do WHATEVER you like with it."
He was very friendly and we had a good laugh about it. My wife just rolled her eyes. This call was by far the most fun call with a CSR I have had. I don't even mind the one day it will sit in a non-interest account.
Of the big 3 (Chase, Citi, and BOA) BOA gets 4+ stars, Citi gets 2.5 stars (mostly for their idiot CSR's and the fact that many times you have to call back) Chase gets -2 stars because of all of the extra effort for both me an my wife and the almost blatent wanting to do business on their offers.
My wife asked "why did you even bother with Chase if they were a pain for you?" I said simple.... 49K in BT money, $120.00 in statement credits and 1-2 free hotel nights.

When I got my 1st chase account 500 CLI --->25000 on activation. I wrote the 1st check for 24,000 to my checking and asked the CSR if I could get my statements at my BIZ p.o. box, " She said sure no problem" so I wait a few days and make a 10,000 private mortgage payment (he takes days to cash it). The FREAKIN chase check bounced, which caused my 10,000 payment to bounce!!!!!
So I call chase and they connect me with the FRAUD DEPT., they asked me for social, password, Yada Yada, I was pissed. It's like talking to a freakin wall, " why couldn't you just call me" wall says nothin.
After private motgage was pissed, I got chase to send me a letter stating, that they stopped payment by mistake and that it was all their fault ( I think it helped).
I just wrote another check for 34,000 and you bet your ass I now call chase 1st and get the all clear before writing checks. Then I wait for it to clear. They are 1 touchy bank, they also told me I couldn't DD because I updated my phone #. NOPE had to wait 30 days to DD, even though I've been DDing to the same checking for 4 years.
Chase is great, I always have 0.9% offers on my old accounts, but ya gotta be ready for them to stick ya a little!!

Almost verbatum to my experience. The only difference is that my AOR account went from 160+K to 135K so no harm was done. I doubt that Fidelity will charge any sort of fee (if they do, I'll just call and I'm sure they'll waive it. They have excellant CSR). It looked to me like a debit on the history so I think that no adverse action will follow.

can anyone address my concern? only one of my citi cards has DD option for the BT money. I called several citi CSRs and they are all clueless.

This option was there prior to the interface change ...

I didn't think citi did DD I guess that means my accounts don't have it either!
A little more adverse action of lowering lines (see tips and tricks post). It's silly considering payments are coming in and they are worried about high utilization yet they reduce the lines.
