OOPS! Slight AA from the magic button at BofA. I _had_ a BofA NEA card with a 59k credit limit. I also had a second NEA card with a 1,100 CL (I had reallocated to the larger card back in November). Earlier this month I asked for a 1,000 bump for the small card and got the wait for the letter message. I got the letter today (no CLI) along with a second letter chopping my large line down to 38k (about 12% over my current balance). Both letters were dated the same day, I don't think it was a coincidence (there were no other events on my report). I got greedy. The button may not be as kind as it once was. YMMV |

I'm not recommending doing a CLI. Not only did I not get the increase, but they shaved over 20K CL off my other BoA card. It had been over 6 months since my last increase request and I have low balances across the board with a good score. |

Don't even bother asking them to lower your interest rate. This could also trigger an AA from BofA. |

Some programmer at BofA forgot to relabel the magic button as "Request a credit line decrease". |

Just an update...they said my decrease was because I had sufficient credit with them considering my income. There were no other reasons indicated. It seems like my total BoA lines are roughly 20% of the HHI I reported on the last request. |

Anyone else not have a "magic button" to request a CLI on the bank of america website for your personal cards? There is no credit line increase link anywhere for my personal accounts, only my BoA business card. I've called them about it and noone I've talked to knows why the links aren't there. A rep was suppose to submit a tech support ticket last week to their escalations department to find out but I haven't heard anything yet and still no CLI links. I'm thinking it has something to do with the way my acounts are set up with the Corp business card tied to my profile or maybe it has to do the old BoA personal and business checking accounts I opened and closed under that profile. I don't know. |

I just had my CL cut in half(48k to 24k). I have not used the CLI button in 9 months. No balance across the board. |

ouch! Yep! Yesterday I noticed my BoA card slashed from 48k to 24k. Since nothing changed on my credit reports I figured it was because of inactivity, so I quickly made a small charge on that card as well as another FIA card(C. Schwab). And when checking today I see that it was slashed again! 24k to 12.5k. The C. Schwab is at 1k, and has been for almost 2 years. I'm afraid to call, I just know they'll slash it again while on the phone. |

Dropped mine from 8500 > 6600 on 4/10 ($100 over balance) I have since paid it off and do expect a further cut soon. |

that's the thing these days. I put as many charges as I can across all my cards and pay them back in full every month. It's the only way to keep cards from being slashed. |

wish i had read this thread before using the magic 'blow up your BofA cards' button. Have a 0% deal from a few months ago going on and wanted to increase the limit a bit to get some more out of it. Today got a bunch of letters, no CLI on the requested card, and they closed an inactive BofA plat card, and also closed my two 1% Schwab cards!! The Schwab cards were both active each month. All 3 closed accounts had small limits of a few thousand each since I had moved the lines to the 0% card a few months ago. oh well...now if i can just get the last $25 reward check out of the one Schwab card i won't be so annoyed |
