BOA recently called me up and offered a BT to my checking account. I said sure and they combined all five of my cards (leaving $100 on each but the one being used). I'm at 89% util on $30,000. Safe to assume trying to bump those $100 cards up isn't going to work? BOA being very good to me (this is the second time they called and gave me free money), I don't want to wake the giant... but I'd love bigger limits since probably three of those cards have 0% BT offers still. |

$3,100 / $0 / next business day / $10,000 / $10,000 That worked like a charm, so I figured what the heck, let's try for $20,000! The second time, I got the 5-7 day message. I'm hoping that really means 5-7 minutes. |

In the past I have left the requested CL line blank and gotten big increases. I used to just ask for $1K each month, to move it up, staying under the radar (I hoped). I accidentally left the requested CL blank once and got a $17K boost (instant). It may (speculation on my part) do some sort calc for a max limit. After that, I did get turned down on my $1Ks on that account and another for a few months. The letter sent always said I had the max credit they would extend me. |

Well, I just got a call from FIA asking why I wanted a $50,000 CLI increase. I told them I picked the number somewhat arbitrarily and that I just wanted a large increase for flexibility and wanted as much credit as they were willing to extend. He asked me about my assets at Bank of America and BOA investment services, confirmed my HHI and then said he was going to go ahead and give me the $50,000 CLI. I just checked online. To be precise I got a $45,500 CLI since I already had a $4,500 credit limit on that card. He set my limit to $50,000. |

FatWalletLurker said:I have two largely identical cards with $2500 limits (two free ipod offers last year with 2k BT) and currently both have ~$1800 on them.
My results, posting a 50k income and 30k additional income. Home-owner, Teacher/Admin.
Worldpoints card: $2,500 / 5-7 days / $5,000 / (not yet returned)
MLB card, reporting 50k income and 60k additional income: $2,500 / 5-7 days / $4,000 / (not yet returned)
While I may have hosed myself by putting different added incomes, if asked I'll just say that I failed to include my parents in the first request. It was for the sake of science. I figured a controlled experiment in the second case, telling them what they wanted to hear, would have a more favorable outcome. No dice.
Judging by the small second request and continued delayed response, it probably makes a significant difference if you actually owe a significant amount on your BoA cards. Totally weird update. The Worldpoints card, on which I have the exact same balance, etc. they gave me a new limit of 10k, 5k MORE than I asked for. On the MLB card, I reported a great deal more income, made a much more reasonable request, and was denied. A CSR contacted me by phone with the info within about an hour (despite the 5-7 days message on screen). |

Fidelity 2% Back Card: Started at 7,000 limit with 2k balance. Asked for 24,900. Said I was instantly approved and now had 11,600 to spend on purchases. After hitting this page it had not updated on the summary screen. Nice to have extra line for billpay.

It asks for "Salary"....but when I first signed up for the card I input HHI. What are y'all inputting? HHI or actual salary? I dont want to deal with the implications of an investigation. |

EDIT: ...and I just tried my Fidelity 2% Card that I have been putting $500-800/month and paying in full for almost a year. Current: 3300, Requested: 24000, Balance: ~$400, Instant approval for $6k. Guess I got a bit overzealous. |

I specifically don't like that the bolder requests are reviewed manually, or at least if you are called by FIA or BofA chances are that they will review your credit. Won't do good for my BillPay. Anyway, I got some softer CLIs this way, by almost maxing out the lines. But good luck to you all. |
