Long time viewer of the financial forum here and I think first time poster in here. Based on what I read here I tried putting some money into Zions Bank in a Deseret Money Market Account. I had read the good and the bad reviews and chose to see for myself. I would like to say that aside from dealing with NetBank when they first came online many years ago, that this is the worst communicating online bank I've ever dealt with.

Transfers are horribly slow, the website is vague and gives you barely any information such as what your current rate is when you are logged in to your account. Customer service via email is a lost cause. 2-3 business day response time if you're lucky to get an answer. Phone customer service is much better. I'm all about making money but I'd rather have some information and customer service to go with my interest.

ACH with Zions was terrible as well. I could push and pull from my own local bank but couldn't get anything setup with Zions on their site. Really painstaking and when things finally did go through they sat at Zions forever before showing up and garnering interest.

Closing the account was a nightmare for me. Took over 16 days to get a simple check. Apparently Utah is 10,000 miles away from Washington as it took forever to get here. Really don't recommend this bank to anyone seeking fast service and an actual online interface that is user friendly and can give information.

Here's my two cents. OK, their online banking isn't the greatest but who cares? I don't have my money there because I need state of the art online banking. I have my money there because they offer an extremely competitive rate that has stayed competitive unlike the rest out there. As far as closing an account, well, they give you plenty of checks with your intro packet - just write a check and make money off the float. I've been very satisfied with Zions for 6 months now. It's great not having to keep chasing rate, transferring money from bank to bank which gets old quick and can cost inquiries and often lost interest. As long as Zions keeps doing what they do best which is offer one of the best rates out there I have no plans to move my money any time soon.

I had a check that bounced while I was out of town in 2005, very long story but basically the bank cancelled my account with a negative balance and turned it over to chexsystems. I paid the bank back all their money + fees within 30-45 days. I pulled my chexsystems report and this is the only negative account reporting and it does state PAID.

I never have problems opening bank accounts. I have had an account at Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Washington Mutual, ED, HSBC and Capital One's online account and now I am with US Bank.

I have tons of banking experience I tried to open a Zions Bank MMA account. I'm sick of chasing rates and Zions Bank seems to be stable.

I went to the website, filled out the application and got a error message saying they would contact me shortly. About 3-4 days in the mail I got a letter saying I was declined due to Chexsystems.

Notation on my most recent statement: "Disclosure: Effective April 7, 2008, the minimum balance to earn interest on your Deseret Money Market Account will be $2,500."

Disappointing. The main reason I chose to open this account a few months ago was the low $1,000 minimum to earn a decent interest rate.
