I received my notice that from March 5 to March 28 I qualified. I am wondering why they ended on 3/28 if their are 31 days in the month. Just once I'd like a bank that had "monthly" requirements begin on the first of the month and end on the last day of the month.

Thanks for the answer, appreciate it! Temporarily what I did was set one of my credit cards to debit this checking account of a small amount and I was told that should count as well.

The qualification period will usually end on the last business day of the month prior to that day the statement period ends, in order to give transactions made through the end of the qualification period a chance to post during the statement period. If a transaction made during a statement period doesn't post during that same statement period, it will count for the next statement period. That's why the qualification period ended on 3/28, and also why you usually won't see monthly requirements beginning on the first day of the month and ending on the last day of the month.

That makes sense. But its confusing. When you sign up you are told, "Make at least 10 debit card transactions monthly" and you can do so but still not qualify because, say in March, you could have done 10 transactions over the course of 3 days and still not qualified for the rate.

Funny this thread got bumped today. I asked a couple questions after getting their email saying my statement had been posted. The reply I received 20 minutes ago:

Actually the statement is correct. Your account qualified for March.
This is because you automatically qualify for the first statement cycle.

The statement cycle will end on the second to last business day of the
month. For example, April's statement cycle will end on 4/29, and for
May the statement cycle ends on 5/29.

Let me know if there is anything else I may assist you with.

Thank you,

So it appears that the wording shouldn't be on the order of meeting the ACH and check card transaction requirements monthly, and shouldn't attempt to define a qualification period different from the statement period. Instead, the wording should state that the ACH and check card transactions should post during a given statement cycle in order to meet those requirements for that statement cycle.

I am a bit surprised that there is nothing in the HELP/FAQ/INDEX/GLOSSARY that speaks to how to make a deposit. Indeed if you do a search for the word "deposit" you get no entries. Kind of makes you wonder about how ready they are to do internet banking, IMHO.

They do not provide their ABA routing number either. Hopefully they will respond to the E-mail inquiry. Definitely no way to link an account internally. Another Hallmark of a bank not ready for prime time. Can't complain about 6% though!

I applied online on February 29 and today, March 14 I received my signature page and pre-paid postage envelope. The documents detail information regarding my account, including the account number and the ROUTING NUMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Could it be that they heard your complaint and decided to include it for all subsequent applicants, or did you just not see this number when you received the paperwork?

For those of you that are tracking the time frame, I just received my Debit card in the mail on Friday March 28 and my PIN on Monday March 31. That is one month after I initially applied online. ACH pushes from other banks count toward the debit/deposit requirement. My only complaint so far is that I can't add any external banks to do ACH pulls from external to Charter. It would also be nice to enter this account into my Yodlee summary.

OK, I'm confused. I thought the procedure was to determine the last *business* day of the month, and then use the *business* day prior to that as the statement cycle end date. Are you (or is the e-mail) saying to just use the latest business day in the month that falls before the last day in the month, whether or not the last day in the month is itself a business day? That seems contrary to how the e-mail in ahearnb's message was worded.

For clarification, I received an apology and the following:

"the statement cycle ends on the second to last business day of the month. If the last day of the month is on a Monday then the last day of the statement cycle will end the Friday before which could be on the 28th if there are 31 days in the month or on the 27th if there are 30 days in the month."

For those of you who have accounts and are using yodlee, is it possible to link the checking account to yodlee?

TIA.

I already asked that. I have an account and I am using Yodlee through Bank of America (My Portfolio). Charter Bank of New Mexico is not in their system.

Thanks, good to know. That's a bummer though.

Soooo would this deal work if I paid my cell phone bill 10x a month with the debit card?

I hope so. I just paid Comcast 11 times. 10 as a credit card payment and 1 payment as pay by check to satisfy the ACH auto debit requirement. I'll know for sure after I call them next week.

I've also done the 1 ACH payment (deduction from checking account) and the 10 or whatever number of check card payments, all from the same payee, for other Reward Checking accounts. These transactions satisfied both the DD or ACH and the check card transaction requirements.

So let me get this straight... Fulfill requirements for each cycle by doing them from the 1st to the 25th of each month, and you're all set with no ifs ands or buts?
