3. What is the deal with CC?

4. The terms say $100 bonus and account should stay open for 6 months. What am i missing here?

Can you fund with a credit card (CC)?

It seems that you can get 10,000 more miles for a total of 25,000 miles if you transfer the $10K in and out of the account for a total of 5 times in. I believe that most airlines will give a free continental US roundtrip ticket for 25,000 miles.

Has anyone gotten $200 and 25,000 miles?

I got the 200, but the miles haven't posted yet. Btw, it seems that now you could possibly get another 100, if you open a mySmartCash account and move your 10k in there

I got the $300 and 15k miles so far. Easy $300!

For you who have gotten the bonuses, it would be nice if you posted the time frame instead of merely saying that you got the bonuses.

Will someone comment on whether he/she successfully used the same $10K to fund the mySmart Cash account that was used to initially fund the Fidelity Account amd still received the $100 bonus for the mySmart Cash account?

Has anyone successfully used the same $10K (tranferring it back and forth) to get a total of 25K miles?

It seems that it would be quicker and more convenient if one can transfer the money back and forth between the Fidelity account and the mySmart Cash account instead of transferring back and forth between Fidelity and another institution (unless you pull in the entire $50K, but this defeats the purpose of making the $10K work very efficiently).

As for the miles, I am assuming that the OP is referring to the Lettuce Entertain You gift cards. I suspect that you can get more bang for the buck by getting a free roundtrip ticket (as long as the ticket price is >$250).

i got the $100 bonus for my old Fidelity Brokerage that i have had for years, by moving $10,000 out of it to my BOA Checking and then moving it back in again....

Then, after opening My Smart Cash, after about two months or so, i transferred $10,000 from my old brokerage to BOA Checking and then moved it back in to My Smart Cash and got the $100 for that...so $200 in total...

Nope, it wouldn't work unless the money first leaves fidelity completely..you can't shift it back and forth under the Fidelity "umbrella" you need to move it out first and then back in again...

Since 1 and 3 are same links. Aren't you opening two accounts? Pls explain

Use the first link BEFORE you open your Fidelity account to get the first $100. AFTER you open the account, go back to the link again to get another $100!

Note the option to choose between "new" and "existing" accounts toward the end of the linked page.

Additional question:

1. Do you get a/c no. in the first step? If yes, wouldn't there be two a/cs then (1 in step 1st and 2nd in 2nd step)?

I have a fidelity 401K account will that affect this?

Also couldnt a person open up the account get the $200 and points? Close the account and then recycle? Just curious.

I have 20K in a Cd that will be up for renewal soon.

When does this promo end?

I opened my account on monday. I have an extra $200 in my account today. I tried for the aa miles since i usually fly with them, but they have not posted yet.

I am in the same boat as well. Also, can I do this for myself and my wife and double dip?

This site lays it out pretty clearly here
This is a link to the same site for instructions to get a total of $300 by adding a mySmart Cash account here (link for the lazy to the site to which SSG was referring)

Are there absolutely no cathes for the my smart account?

I did this deal at the beginning of the year in my wife's name. I had a ROTH IRA in her name but never had an individual brokerage account. The $100 bonus was credited (which is now) but did not get AA miles automatically. However, I called them and even though they pointed out why she was not eligible, they decided to make an exception and credit the miles. It was pretty quick and painless - did not hve to argue.

Recycling for cash bonus will work (I have done it multiple times) but I don't think miles will work. The only reason it worked in the first example was bacause it was the first time for miles and that too it was treated as an exception.

I also have a question:

Can you open an individual brokerage acct in a kids name and can you give your own FF number?

Deposited the money on Wednesday, $200 showed up in my account today. Thanks!

What are the requirements of the account?
Accounts must be maintained for a minimum of six months
Minimum balance?
None that I can find.

How easily does Fidelity allow external transfers?
i.e. Is it possible to transfer 10k into the fidelity account and then transfer it out once the bonus has posted?
Seems like some money needs to be left in the account, but I'm not sure exactly how much. There doesn't seem to be any fee associated with leaving the account open with little to no funding.

There seems no minimum balance requirement. And the Fidelity Money Line takes only 1 day to transfer money out/in. But you have to wait for 7-10 days before the Money line is set up. So I transfered my money out 7 days after I got the bonus and only left $10 there.

rawman1 said: Has anyone gotten $200 and 25,000 miles?

Yes. So did my wife. We enjoyed a nice vacation in San Francisco in April. Hotel room was free for opening a Starwood Preferred AMEX. And my wife says I'm tight a buck!

So you can technically get $200 for opening the fidelity, $100 for opening up the smartcash, and 15,000 points as well?

This sounds super sweet.

Is there any catches to the smartcash?

Followed the steps in OP, will see what happens next week. Want to clarify one thing though: when opening the account it was asking for a min of 2.5K. If I get the bonus and move original 10K back leaving $200 in this account do I have to pay any fees for having it open for the next 6 month?

One final question before I jump in - Any hard pulls on the credit report?

so to get the $100 bonus for exisitng customers, you need to open up that smart checking account and transfer $10k from another bank account?
if you just transfer $10k from the other bank you won't get the $100? Is it max of $200 for existing customers ?

DreamR2I said: One final question before I jump in - Any hard pulls on the credit report?

According to this, the answer is no.

if you just transfer $10k from the other bank you won't get the $100? Is it max of $200 for existing customers ?

Excerpt from the small print on this page: "Existing Fidelity Brokerage customers must provide the information requested above and then deposit or transfer in at least $10,000 in assets to their individual or joint Fidelity Account."

Does this mean that you can get $100 for every $10K that you transfer to your Fidelity Account as long as you fill out the form each time that you send in money? If so, we need to factor this instant 1% into the effective rate for the money market fund.

Some posters in the big Fidelity thread report that existing customers have successfully gotten bonus money ($100 for transfer of $10K and $100 for opening mySmart Cash account) but no miles.

No,it says "To qualify to have $100 deposited into your account, you will need to open an eligible Fidelity account and fund it with at least $10,000." So it is not $100 for every $10k.

Will fidelity do a soft inquiry or hard inquiry on your credit report?

Did you read the thread? The answer is readily apparent. Look 3 posts up from yours.

Can you fund with a credit card (CC)?

I am also interested in lnowing how do you fund it with a Credit Card.

Also has anybody done this by opening an account in a minor's name.

TIA

Got same email. It was made clear in several posts already not to call in response to this email...

My problem is that I cannot trade yet... I get this error:
"Trade Message(009972) The account specified in this order is restricted. Please call a Fidelity Representative at 1-800-544-6666."

Maybe I need to wait 4 days for the ACH funds to clear ?

I received the same email. I got $200 for opening my Brokerage account. Then I tried to get the additional $100 for opening up a mySmartCash account, which is what triggered the email. I haven't transferred in the 10k yet, so I'm going to do that before I contact them.
