Not very hot but should be a little bonus if you don't have a 5% grocery Cash Back card.

Login into your account and the advertisement is on the front page.

"From December 1, 2007 through December 31, 2007, use your Discover Card to get 5% CashBack Bonus at grocery stores.

Get whatever you need for your holiday celebration and earn 5% CashBack Bonus on $200 in grocery store purchases."

Requires registration?

Just signed up on the website. Interestingly enough, I received a postcard from Discover about a month ago for 5% back on $200 grocery purchases from 10/1-11/31 (I think those were the dates). I assume this was targeted as I didn't even have to sign up for the promo. Already made the purchases and received the $10 bonus Cash Back. Hope my previous "targeted" offer doesn't interfere with this one...

thank you!

Just enough "hot." 200*5%=$10 Cash Back :--)

Thanks OP, I wouldn't have known about this!

plain Discover card only?

Thanks, signed up.

Thanks OP!

It wasn't on my first page. I had to click where it said to see upcoming Get More promotions to see the link.

tHanks Empty!

Doesn't seem to be valid on the Discover Gas Card.

I am not sure. I just have a regular Discover card, not gas card, not business card, and right after I logged in to check account activities I found that advertisement on the front page.

I am not sure if it is account basis either as I didn't see it until I logged in.

I think you may just login your account and see if you have it.

(i wish it was more though...but still better than nothing! ^_^)

Doesn't seem to be valid on Discover Magazine, or the Discovery Channel. OP should have been more specific.

Chase doesn't take WalMart as grocery store while Citi does.
I wonder if Discover takes it as grocery store or not.

Hey, $10 is $10. Some grocery stores are still giving rewards on cashover.

The OP was right to share, but man, p!$$ on Discover. They're incredibly weaksauce, between their regular tiered CashBack, and their ridiculously capped "get mores".... why would anyone bother with them for purchases when there's Citi and Chase. I have a regular Discover Platinum but won't bother logging in for this when I have a Citi Driver's Edge giving me 6%.

Something I WILL do however, is take advantage of this flyer received this week for my Discover Business Card. $5 CashBack per purchase up to 4 between now and 12/15. I'm on a 0% BT AND purchases deal, so no sweat. Thanks for more free $ Discover.

This has been going on for some time. This month its movies and restaurants. December is Groceries. January is Airlines, Cruises, Hotels and Car Rentals.

Bet your sweet bippie I am using my discover card to pay for my hotel. Wish I did not already pay for the airfare.

Actually, this IS different. The normal Get More themes are quarterly. The movies and restaurants theme is from October-December. The Airlines, Cruises theme is from January to March. This Grocery Cash Back is a bonus just for the month of December - over and above the quarterly theme. I don't remember them running this last December.

I was thinking about the same thing, but I thought they stopped the cashover....

Even worse, Discover always pays .25% at Wal-Mart. It is in the CashBack terms and conditions.

When you have spent this amount in total annualpurchases: You earn CashBack Bonus at this tier level:
$3,000+ (unlimited) 1.00% (.01)
$1,500 - $2,999 0.50% (.0050)
$0 - $1,499 0.25% (.0025)

All purchases made at select warehouse clubs, or discount stores, including grocery stores affiliated with these stores ("Warehouse Purchases"). Call 1-800-347-7896 or visit discovercard.com for a complete list. -- 0.25% .0025

Edited: Added cut/paste from terms and conditions from this link. - you may have to be logged into discovercard for this link to work.

Discover seems to be playing it safe this time around.... They are promoting the one type of purchase which doesn't increase that substantially during this period. Too bad it isn't at retail stores or on travel.

does anyone have the "complete list?"

Thanks for the heads up - my dad's Cash Back on his card has been stuck at $19.xx for the past couple months and mine is stuck around ~$8 lol

Google is my friend.

list of stores that get .25% back.

Important Information for DiscoverŪ Cardmembers Who Participate in a CashBack BonusŪ Program

If you have a Discover Card that earns CashBack Bonus, you will earn a fixed .25% CashBack Bonus on purchases made in-store or online at select warehouse clubs or discount stores, including grocery stores affiliated with these stores, such as BJ's Wholesale Club, Costco, Sam's Club Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets and Supermercados Amigo stores. These purchases will not be included in calculating the total amount of purchases made during your anniversary year in order to determine your up to 1% tier level. However, purchases of gas at these stores will be treated the same as all your other gas purchases.

Please note: Costco has limited Discover Card acceptance.

No, I get cashover every week, and get rewards at Giant Food. Safeway breaks out the cashover now, no rewards.

Also, I signed up for the offer and this is what the confirmation e-mail contained:

*Earn 5% CashBack Bonus on grocery purchases from 12/1/07 (or the date on which you sign up, whichever is later) through 12/31/07, subject to a cap of $200 in purchases. These purchases must post to your account between 12/1/07 and 12/31/07. Purchases must be made at qualifying stand-alone grocery stores or supermarkets; purchases made at convenience stores, gas stations, warehouse clubs, supercenters and discount stores are not eligible. Allow up to 5 weeks for this reward to be added to your CashBack Bonus account. You will continue to earn CashBack Bonus of up to 1% unlimited on all other purchases. Only Discover More Cardmembers are eligible to participate in this program. See CashBack Bonus Terms and Conditions for further details.

FYI:

The Discover Business Card just started a promo where new accounts get 10% CashBack on up to $2,000 in restaurant purchases and $2,000 for electronics within the first three months.

Just in time for the holidays.

Link and terms in this thread

I just got a new promotion in the mail today. The terms are basically that if you spend $100 or more in a single purchase at a grocery store from Nov 1 to Dec 31, you get $10 Cash Back. I wasn't sure how this would interact with the 5% Cash Back so I called Discover up and asked them. They said you'd get both as long as you fit both conditions. So, for those that get this possibly targeted promotion, make sure you save your large grocery purchase till Dec 1. Then, spend $100 and you'll get $15 Cash Back.

Does someone know if Tops, Wegmans, Keyfood, Associates, Dollar Tree are coded as grocery by Discovery?

Well, its only 2% above the 3% I get from Chase. So up to $4 extra.

Good deal I guess for those not already getting 5% on groceries (and for those interested in getting extra from offers from Discover partners) but really Discover is not risking the barn on this one with a max Cash Back bonus of $10 LOL

willjeffers said: Well, its only 2% above the 3% I get from Chase. So up to $4 extra.

Actually it's a little bit different since you can redeem $20 for more than $20 of certificates. If you only want the cash equivalent, then yes, it's not really worth the trouble. I redeem the Discover CashBack for GCs so this promo is more interesting to me.

Do grocery store gift certificates count?
I am thinking about getting the Discover More Cash card. Have offer from SmartSource coupon book (code # FHND) giving me a $60 CashBack Bonus when I purchase $500. With this grocery deal, could I buy $500 of gift certificates, get the $10 grocery bonus (5% * first $200), and get the $60 bonus? I am hoping to do this deal, and having my wife apply separately to get the same deal.

snoopdogg1 said: Do grocery store gift certificates count?
Yes.

Thanks, DeGlass. Very cool. Just applied for a joint acct (didn't want to deal with separate bills / rewards accounts, etc). Hopefully will not have a hard time getting the $60 CashBack. The screen didn't confirm the code gave $60 CashBack bonus w/$500 purchase, but I have the Smartsource coupon insert that says so.
