Dear Valued Customer:

Regretfully, we are temporarily discontinuing our Bank-to-Bank Transfer service from our current provider. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Any one-time transfers you have already scheduled will be sent. If you have scheduled recurring Bank-to-Bank transfers, they will not be processed beginning today.

In the meantime, you can still continue to transfer money between institutions by using Bill Pay, writing checks from your account, or contacting customer service for other options.

Please visit our website at www.RedneckBank.com for more information.

We greatly appreciate your continued patronage.

We can use another bank to initiate ACH transfer's to and from our Redneck Accounts, correct?
If I have a Credit card or other payment that is set up to be pulled from my Redneck Account, that is ok also, correct?

Received same email from Evantage...What a bunch of crap. Must be gearing up for a big rate drop.

America Net bank, part of the Redneck, Evantage group of banks confirmed this morning that ACH transfers (in or out) from another bank will still stay in effect. The Bank to Bank program is an internal program, not related to ACH services provided by other banks.

rated:

Did they say what the reason was? I don't use it much, but it's still a tool I hate to lose.

rated:

In the words of Cosmo Kramer, "I'm out!"

I'm switching our college savings from Evantage to Alliant Credit Union. It's 0.09% lower interest (about $27 a year), but that's a small price for me to pay to avoid these nocturnal ambiguous discontinuance notices. That kind of "guess what, we just changed how we do business" email certainly does not instill confidence in me. It just sounds and feels shady, which is the LAST thing I want in a bank.

incredible bank is also offering(Incredible Money Market) 1.10 % APY with balances $2,500-$249,999.
Is this a bank with good rating?

I'm comparing and finding many banks are offering 1.10-1.00 % APY for both -saving and checking accounts.
Which account is preferable to open..saving or checking ? Can I open only saving accounts and put all my money there?
Or I need to have checking account also for some specific needs(and viceversa)?

rated:

If the rate is the same, checking is better. Much easier to get money out by just writing a check.

The rates have gone down over time but they have everywhere. If you are looking for a basic checking/savings it is convenient. I don't transfer more than a couple K at a time. If you initiate ACH transfers into their checking early, it'll usually get credited the next business day.

Unless you want to use rewards checking, I'm happy with them. I think the other bank most people discuss is Alliant Credit Union. Both are probably good though I believe Alliant has some more features.

rated:

Alliant Cu is a much better set up then Incredible...highly recommended...also you can't write checks with Incredible Bank and Alliant you can...while they don't have atm rebates, you can get free withdrawals at 80,000 atms nationwide in the various networks they participate...they are also none for consistency in high rates and much better customer service then Incredible...plus...it's a CREDIT UNION...you're a member not a customer...

I have the 4.09% account at Consumers CU (myconsumers.org) and have been having great luck with it.

However, my husband also has an account there and we cannot get direct deposit to work. No matter what we do, the DD goes into his checking account. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to find the correct account number to us? We've tried added the suffix, but that causes the DD to fail.

I would call them, but I'm not my DH (I suppose I could pretend...) and he can't call during the day.

rated:

I had to call. My Direct Deposits were getting rejected and they sent me a paper with the correct account number to use. It's not as easy as it seems.

thanks.

Mine was so easy to set up. Why do they make this so difficult? What an odd credit union...

I sent a secure message asking for the account number to use for ACH/DD and they sent me the requested details. This was last year.

that's odd because I can't even find a way to send them a secure message, that was my first thought. I've clicked every single link (at least I think I have) in their UI. The only contact options I have in the account are by phone or mail.

Login, click on "Manage Profile" tab, click on "View Messages" & on the far right of the Messages header there is a link "Compose New". It is kind of non-intuitive & hard to find.

Found it, you rock! Thank you so much.

Could they have made it any more difficult to find??!?!?

Do you guys worry about these small banks/credit unions and their networks not being very secure? If money gets transferred by someone else who hacked into their system, is there consumer protection?

So they message me back saying they can't provide the info online or via phone, they have to mail me a document. If the interest rate wasn't 4% I would have fired this CU a long time ago...

And from their rate chart that 1.35% has held since 3/10/2010. Also saw they have a 1.50% 6 month cd. They are NCUA insured so as long as you are eligible to join they look good

This doesn't belong in this thread since it is not a "Nationally Available" account.

Unless the rates offered for checking/savings accounts elsewhere are significantly above 1%, the advantages (24/7 phone access to a 'live body', fastest ACH transfers anywhere, very competitive rates, etc) of Alliant Credit Union are difficult to ignore.

Alliant is a large credit union insured by NCUA, has both online and brick and mortar locations, and outstanding customer service. Current rates: 0.95% checking, 1.00% savings). Chasing rates for a very limited advantage is simply not worth the effort, and may be undone when the teaser rate at the new CU/bank disappears within a year of the opening deposit.

I'm with you. The same day that Evantage pulled something that "smelled funny" to me, I switched from Evantage to Alliant. I'm willing to lose the nominal (for me) differential in interest rate for the stability and ease of doing business that Alliant offers. I LOVE the ability to create additional subordinate accounts at Alliant with a couple clicks. We use one for our "rainy day" account and another for our college fund. And, as you mention, it doesn't hurt that they have physical locations in the area.

Frankly, that Evantage website never did instill confidence in them for me.

Alliance Bank & Trust out of North Carolina which had a Money Market Acct. top rate of 1.45% APY for a long time dropped their highest rate down to 0.98%, just like that. The Fatwallet Effect, indeed.

No chit! And I thought by not having it on the list it would be immune.
