Since The Ultimate DCU Banking Thread has been archived, I'll post this here.

Just got an email from DCU, detailing the changes with their system upgrade, and one of them is:

PC Deposit – You'll be able to deposit checks using PC Branch and your home scanner by late 2007.

Seems like the same deal USAA has called "Deposit@Home".

Looks like more reason for me to use DCU.

That could be really useful. I don't see any details on how it works.

deposit@home changed my life. hopefully this product will be just as valuable and available to everyone.

If they allow me to deposit my scanned Dollar Notes I will be really happy. Hope they bring it soon.

I love DCU! Been with them for about 7 yrs now. My paycheck direct deposit is through them. Always gets credited 1 day earlier than my co-workers who use B of A. And this is another great feature by DCU... Deposit @ home!

alert mods

Added to the QuickSummary that DCU is a CU Service Center member. It's as if DCU had over 2,900 branches.

alert mods

Does anyone know if this service is available yet? I'm thinking of switching banks and this service might just tempt me to go with DCU.

USAA instructs their customers to destroy checks that are deposited via their deposit@home service. With DCU's service, does one need to mail them the original check or can it be destroyed, as well? Thanks.

Navy Federal Credit Union is reported to offer this type of service, too. Their public website doesn't seem to mention it, though. Does anyone have any information on the particulars of NFCU's service, as well?

Edit: FI's that offer a "Deposit at Home" service: USAA, Pentagon FCU, DCU, NFCU(?), any others?

might be helpful to ask your question in this general thread about remote deposits.

Here's a reply I received from DFCU regarding the issue of mailing back checks:
Dear Steve,

Thank you for your email concerning PC Deposit.

With PC Deposit, you will never have to mail in your check, drive to a
local ATM, or visit a CU Service Center. Members will need to meet
minimum qualifications to utilize this service, but we are still waiting
to learn what those qualifications will be.

Thank you for your interest in PC Deposit! We are so excited to bring
this new service to you soon!

Sincerely,

Melissa

Just an update, here's what was in an email I received from DCU:

PC Deposit – Deposit Checks from Home!

DCU is proud to announce that we will be offering another easy way to do your banking: With new PC Deposit, you can deposit your checks from home! Instead of driving to a branch or mailing in your checks, you can scan your checks, submit them on PC Branch, and have funds credited to your account within 24 hours!

If you use PC Branch, all you need is a scanner or a printer that can scan or copy documents connected to your computer. Many are available for under $100. (An easy-to-use tutorial will be available to you if you need help setting up your scanner and subsequent drivers).

In only a few steps, you can quickly and easily deposit your checks from your home PC to DCU (after the initial set-up of PC Deposit):

1) Make sure the back of the check is endorsed with your signature, DCU Member number, the account number where you'll deposit the funds, and the phrase "For Deposit Only."

2) Log in to PC Branch and select "PC Deposit."

3) Choose the account you would like the check(s) to be deposited to.

4) Enter the amount of the check(s) you'd like to deposit. Then, using your own scanner, simply scan the front and back of the check and click the submit button. An email will be sent to you once your deposit has been submitted for review and processing. After you receive that email (usually within 24 hours), you must write VOID on the check and destroy the check.

5) That's it – your check has been deposited without you having to leave the comfort of your own home! The image of your deposited check will be available in PC Deposit account history.

PC Deposit will be available to qualified members through PC Branch and is easy to use! Once this service is live, you can check it out by logging into PC Branch at dcu.org.

Has this gone live yet.I checked DCU's PC Branch and the "PC Deposit" is still not available.Anyone else has been able to get this feature working ?

alert mods

Like you, I am still waiting for this feature.

Remote deposit and the occasional scan of a rebate are all I use a scanner for these days. I found myself with an old scanner that did not work with the Linux and OS X.5 computers in the house, until I remembered Hamrick's VueScan. Great shareware, about $35.

Ok I wrote them an email and found this

DCU said:Thank you for your email regarding our PC Branch deposit option.

We are very excited for our new PC Branch deposit system. Although it
is not available to all members just yet, we are expecting that it will
be very soon. Once it is available, you will see a link to the service
from within your PC Branch account.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance in regards to
your DCU accounts or our online services.

Sincerely,

Funny, I just finished reading this, then checked my yahoo news account:

MILWAUKEE - Online banking service provider CheckFree Corp. is rolling out technology that could mean consumers will no longer have to go to a bank branch to deposit checks.

blah, blah, etc.....

alert mods

I wonder if DCU and USAA are using technology from a company that also just licensed it to Checkfree...
