So I'm looking at doing a business AOR, but also planning to get a few cards to use on a daily basis. The AMEX simplycash card offers 5% back on gas, office supplies, and wireless telecom automatically credited to your account (which is awesome), but I'm curious what specific services and retailers people have had success with. I'm planning to charge gas, comcast internet, verizon wireless bill, and all Staples purchases to the card. Just between gas, comcast, and verizon I should save about $150 a year if all will count towards the 5%, and that's not including office purchases @ Staples and other "office supply" retailers.
So if you have this card, please list what purchases you've made that have gotten the 5% Cash Back. Thanks!! I think this will be a good resource to the FW community on this card (and perhaps we can link this thread from the main CC list thread)......
Comcast probably will not work. Also, for gas, it is only pay at the pump. No inside purchases will count (i.e. food, gift cards, maintenance work, etc.).
My phone bill (century tel) gets me 1% back using this card...so dont expect all communications to get 5%...I suspect it works with some providers that obviously provide cell phone service...
On the whole I would say nearly every stand-alone gas station will qualify. If you buy it from a gas station attached to a supermarket or warehouse club, the chances become remote.

I remember getting a letter from AMEX about gas stations attached to warehouse clubs expressly excluded from the 5% bonus, effective ~Nov 29. They'll also post the Cash Back one statement period later than they do now.
I think it's for Simply Cash, but didn't pay close attention.
Yes--I got that same letter and it was for Simply Cash.
Don't forget though--the Costco AMEX (at least the Biz version--not sure about the consumer version) will give you 5% gas rebate AT Costco.
Problem is I buy most of my gas purchases at Safeway so my Simply Cash card, which seemed like a great idea when I saw "5% rebate on gas purchases" on the brochure, does not do much for me. I set up to autopay my AT&T mobile phone bill and then put the card on the shelf. Other than that this card has pretty much zero value for me.

I buy gas all the time from the station attached to our Kroger (grocery store) using my Citibank Driver's Edge card, and they give me the full 6% rebate instead of the 1%.

You realize you're posting in a thread solely dedicated to the AMEX SimplyCash business card, right?

Yes, but I'm assuming they will bill to the same category regardless of which card is used, and if Citibank considers it a gas station, then other card issuers will likely consider it a gas station as well. So I'm guessing there's more than a "remote" chance that AMEX will give 5% for a gas station attached to a supermarket.

Thanks to all for keeping this thread alive, and also to lhendricks92 for linking to the old thread! I haven't looked into the specifics of Staples now selling Dell computers, but that would be extra sweet if you could get 5% Cash Back on a Dell purchase @ Staples (assuming that Staples prices match the online Dell website prices)
