I searched and all I found was an archived thread, so I thought another one would be appropriate..
I leased a car 1.5 years ago (fully loaded Audi A4). Payments are $612/month. The worst part is, I pre-purchased $900 of miles which I now realize that I don't need. I got a good deal on the money factor (buy rate), but I did a 2-year lease and the residual was terrible and thus the high payments. There isn't a day that goes by that I wish I had a $200/month Toyota Camry or an older used car.
Shame on me. When I get married soon, I'm sticking to a used Acura or an Accord.

or atleast doubled the warranty on hooker's quality.

I got a used minivan for 30K * list was 38+ * (technically used, only 478 miles on it), add an over priced extended warranty, 3k loss on my wifes trade in, also finance the sales tax ... plus got hoodwinked by the car salesMEN by buying on payments ...
I was shrewd, i made them throw in the extended warranty and still keep my payments under six hundred a month (which i could afford) ... but they won the game .. they didn't throw in anything ... they just extended the loan length ... 578 a month for 6 and 1/2 years. If only i knew about fatwallet back then ....
30k for the van might have been ok ... i sure did love it ..... but all in all ... worst deal for me.
First place: I bought a Cutco knives demo set and "bought into" Vector marketing, a company targeted high school students with the promise of an attractive minimum hourly rate for time invested. I bugged the crap out of my friends and family members only to have several of them cut themselves on the ridiculously sharp knives and to get screwed by the company when they refused to honor the minimum rate guarantee after I made my 40 pitches. Plus, the 40 pitches were billed to be 1-hour including commute time. When you're visiting friends and family, an appointment rarely lasted just an hour. Worst purchase and investment ever!
Second place: did the same thing with Amway in high school (see a trend here). However, this time I wised up a bit and stopped after just a few pitches. Also, I only ended up with like $150 in product, which I could actually use. The demo knives from Cutco were useless for me as a teenager and there was no eBay at the time to resell them.
Third place: 4-cylinder Toyota Camry. Pressured by parents to buy this boring a$$ car just a few years out of college. I could afford more and knew I wanted a V6 at a minimum. So I bent to their pressure - don't get me wrong, it's a great car - and bought the Camry. Nine months later, I bought myself a Viper for my 25th birthday. Went way overboard in the other direction. I blame the Camry In my defense, both cars turned out to be great. The Camry is still alive and kicking today with many miles. The Viper was hit by a drunk driver (while parked with no one in it) and I was reimbursed by insurance what I had paid for it two years and 24,000 miles earlier. I have never bought new or over $15K price since then.

As for the Camry, this was my first, new car purchase. As I mentioned, their advice was in fact correct, just not for me at the time. I think had I purchased a used Acura or Lexus, I would have been happier and the decision would have proved financially prudent. And, no, they did not pay for the car; however, we treat our money as one and the same.
blew student loan money in law school on expensive drinks and travel I couldn't pay for otherwise. luckily I've paid it all off except for the subsidized portion at 3.75%
1. ANY crap I buy in Hot deals.... including the FAR stuff (which I didn't need in the first place!!!). I have so much stuff I DIDN'T need, and can't eBay it because OTHER people don't need it either!!!
2. ANYTHING I ever bought for the EX... LOL!
3. EVERYTHING I ever bought off WOOT!
4. The brand new cars I USED to buy.... even though they lasted about 10 years each! The Dodge Diesel (NEW) was the last new one I bought, because I figured the ENGINE would take the 300 to 400K miles I would put on it...(and now I am fixing the rust on the lower panels of the doors (CHEAPLY, by doing it myself)). The truck will fall apart before I sell it and buy a new one!
5. ANY bleeding edge technology. I got a GPS (C330) as a gift, with a list price of 400... I sold it, waited 6 months and bought a TomTom 910 (on clearance, for $124)... I never buy brand new tech. I had a timex sinclair (what a waste), and ran a BBS on a commodore 64 (the 20 Megabyte External Hard drive cost $700+)...
6. Golf Clubs (LOL)... what a waste of time and money!
