Hello, Upon the advise of Glitch99 and the fabulous AOR, I also send an email request to US Bank regarding the Baylor card I recently got. It was a 3% uncapped fee structure when I applied, but I sent an email stating that when I was originally looking to apply for this card it had a No Fee offer. They sent an email the next day with a promotional code (the same one that Glitch99 received, so yes it is generic). It seems to me that perhaps even an older card can take advantage of this promotional 0%/12months because the BT is done online following the below instructions. Good luck!
Here is the email I received:
Thank you for contacting U.S. Bancorp Service Center, Inc. via our website. We appreciate your interest in requesting a Balance Transfer. To receive 0% for 12 months with no fee, please use promotional code 45248.
You have two options on the website to find the request form for a balance transfer:
From the “Customer Service” Link at the top of the usbank.com homepage:
1. Scroll down to “Credit Card and Premier Line Account Options.” 2. Click on “Manage Your Credit Card or Premier Line Account.” 3. Choose the appropriate drop-down box for your credit card product (i.e., U.S. Bank, Gymboree Visa, Harley-Davidson Visa, REI Visa, SKYPASS Visa, or WorldPerks Visa). 4. Select Balance Transfer. 5. Click Next.
OR…
When logged into Internet Banking:
1. Click on the “Customer Service Center” link in the left navigation bar. 2. Scroll down to “Credit Card and Premier Line Account Options.” 3. Click on “Manage Your Credit Card or Premier Line Account.” 4. Choose the appropriate drop-down box for your credit card product (i.e., U.S. Bank, Gymboree Visa, Harley-Davidson Visa, REI Visa, SKYPASS Visa, or WorldPerks Visa). 5. Select Balance Transfer 6. Click Next.
To avoid any unnecessary late fees, please be sure to continue to make your regular minimum payment to your other account until you see that the balance transfer has been processed. Please contact us again if we can be of further assistance.
You are a valued cardmember and we appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.
Confirmed, this is the promo code I received as well.
Not sure if a CSR has to manually associate the code to your account first, or if it is automatically available to all accounts in general. But its worth someone giving it a shot without requesting it first.
FYI, I applied for the US Bank card via the Valpak offer (pdf here) over a month after the expiration (9/31). When I was accepted and called about the balance transfer, I was told the no-fee offer still applied, no code needed. So it seems they are negotiable on the fee.
Edit: Oh, and I took the BT and was not charged a fee.

i've been able to get US Bank/Elan to mail "BTs" to my savings account at USAA on 4 different cards. YMMV.Mine went to a HELOC without issue. Took the payee name, address, and account number on the online request form.
Just because they wont ACH the money directly to your own checking account doesnt mean the transfer has to go to a credit card. They'll send a check to anyone you have a 'balance' with.
I like people of all colors. Vote red if you are a racist. Oh, and on topic, this is a great deal.

I just called USbank and got nowhere on a year old unused NW card. She "couldn't find that code on my account" so maybe it is somewhat targeted. Or my CSR was wrong.

A warning about US Bank for new account applicants: The have fairly strict underwriting policies. I'm 4 months into an AOR, and received a "pre-qualifed offer" in the mail for a 0% 12-month BT with no fees. "Your excellent credit history pre-qualifies you for the US Bank Visa Platinum Card." Although I knew a pre-qualification doesn't guarantee acceptance, I figured unless there was some significant change in my credit situation since they sent the offer, my application had a chance of being accepted.
As you might guess, I was rejected due to too many recent inquiries and too many recently opened accounts. So I guess my "excellent credit history" didn't take these two factors into account. As a data point, my inquiries were: TransUnion: 8, Experian: 10, Equifax: 12. All but one Experian and one TransUnion occurred in the last 6 months.
I had 18 recently opened credit card accounts, but 4 of those were business cards and don't show on my consumer credit report. So make that 14 for US Bank purposes, hardly a huge AOR. And I refinanced my mortgage. That went through from PenFed with no problems, despite a similar number of inquiries and recently opened accounts, and of course the resulting BT debt.
My FAKO scores from Privacy Matters 123 (yes, I know they can be quite different from actual FICO scores) were approximately: TransUnion: 702, Experian: 679, and Equifax: 789.
So, if your situation is similar to mine, I recommend you think carefully before accepting their "pre-qualified" offer. (Yep, one more Equifax inquiry to shed.)
Edited to clarify that my post only applies for new account applicants.

I also received a Chase Professional (business card) offer, applied for that at the same time as US Bank, was accepted and received a 20K CL. I already had 1 Chase business card, and 2 Chase personal cards. The business card had a high-utilization BT on it, one of the personal cards has a zero balance, and the other has about 50% utilization for a BT. I'm sure Chase "saw" more of my credit history than US Bank did because of the business card.
I have no cards with US Bank. That's why I say they have fairly strict underwriting policies. In the meantime, I'm trying to resist applying for more cards until my AOR has run its course, especially after the US Bank experience.
no problem with us bank but they do not tolerate alot of inquiries or new accounts.
keep in mind part of their FICO scoring approval system can include specific limits (such as new accounts in 1 year, or inquiries showing).
heck crap1 told me i didn't own a house once as reason code lol.
just come back when you have ZERO inquiries and you should be good to go.

I had a feeling this was the case.
OP (and Glitch99), did you use the code on the Valpak offer or the Baylor card or something else?
lhendricks92 said: OP (and Glitch99), did you use the code on the Valpak offer or the Baylor card or something else?It was the Baylor card, about a month after it was opened.
But the point (atleast my point) was that getting the no-fee BT was NOT a one-time courtesy waiver for my specific account, there is an ongoing promo in their system. Perhaps it is limited to newer accounts or just the Baylor card or something else, but it is there. So applying for the uncapped card could very well give you access to a no-fee offer, atleast for the time being. And with rather generous lines coming from the Baylor card, this makes it still worthy of being considered for A0Rs.

lhendricks92 said: if you have an existing account, i'd suggest sending an email (or calling) with the promo code to verify the terms are valid for YOUR account. Emailed CS yesterday inquiring to any available BT promo offers on my 2 existing cards, specifically any 0% promos. Got the same canned response but with different terms:
US Bank Platinum Visa: Thank you for contacting U.S. Bancorp Service Center, Inc. via our website. We appreciate your interest in requesting a Balance Transfer. To receive 1.99% for 9 months with no fee, please use promotional code 72201.
US Bank Skypass Visa: Good morning, thank you for contacting U.S. Bancorp Service Center, Inc. via our website. We appreciate your interest in requesting a Balance Transfer. This is at 18.24% with a 3% ($5 minimum - no maximum) fee. Unfortunately, we do not offer any promotional offers at this time.
Kind of makes me wonder now if these promo codes ARE tied to your account. I'd hate to risk getting 3% uncapped fees <shudder>.

Thanks for the explanation. Reds removed because of the explanation and not the schoolyard response. I'm here for information and not to 'make friends and influence people'.

Sometimes BT fees posts a day or two after the BT, or even when the statement closes. But since it was accepted/processed using the promo cade, it does look promising.

My first promo is 8 months old, this one is for 12 months, I wonder how they will keep them seperate.

He closed USBANK? They are hard to get. Plus, he already took a hit, no point in closing.
USBANK are known for frequently giving automatic CLIs every 6 months without having to ask.

I have had a REI Visa since 2002. I decided to roll the dice and apply for the Balance Transfer with the promo code 45248 on Monday night. It posted to my account today with no fee, so I called and asked to them to verify the terms of the transfer. The CSR stated that it was the 12 months, no fee, 0%. I did not ask ahead of time if it was availabe on my account nor had I received any mailings on it.

My statement closed on the 17th. There was no BTF but they did charge me finance charges (14.99%) on the BT. I called and explained that I was given a promotional code (so I made this part up) to receive 0% 12mo and no BTF. He told me that code was not valid for my account but would honor it since that is what I was told. He explained that further BT with this code would not be honored. Be careful before using this code. Thanks to Glitch99 for suggesting I wait to my statement closes to see what happens!

maybe it depends on the product? US Bank hands out 25K like candy for the Baylor card. a key with them is to include a BT on the app.
