I didn't have time to document my recent AOR, but I thought I'd send up a warning flare on Juniper/Barclay's.
My AOR was ~20 cards, 6 citi, 4 AMEX, and the rest 1 bus 1 personal from other lenders (bofa, barclay's, advanta, chase, etc).
I had 2 Juniper cards, total of ~26k CL. I got deferred on both new apps, and today got 4 letters. 2 telling me my new apps are denied due to sufficient credit, and the other two saying they closed my existing accounts due to too many recent inquiries on my CR. They also pulled all three from both apps, so 6 new inqs were from them. They said the decision was based on TU, which only shows 3, but my Exp shows 31 now so I think that is the problem.
I probably will let this die, but I hope it doesn't impact my other accounts. I'm not sure if 2 accounts closed by the lender will hurt my credit enough to fight it and explain my recent flood of inquiries.

I have 21 on experian, I wouldn't dare do 20 apps!!!!!!
That is why I froze my experian out of my 15 apps with experian frozen only discover sent me a letter requesting to see experian!!! I didn't even call them. on my next AOR I will tell them I haven't gotten my code yet
I did my AOR in sept B* and froze experian and then did another AOR in nov. only difference is I'm not looking for 0% money to invest in CDs, I want the money for my business.
So I stopped doing personal apps after my SEPT. AOR and am now only doing business apps. once all INQs are gone, I'll do another 10 or so apps (maybe more).
I don't see me unfreezing EXP. for a long long time.

I tried to consolidate my Miles-and-More card (20K CL) and National Parks (5K) into BankAtlantic Biz (10K). Got a hard inquiry on EQ, Miles-and-More card closed and the other two not consolidated. Now I faxed them a request to remove the unauthorized inquiry. They were not interested in verification of assets.

it seems juny doesn't like to play, I think the best thing to do is get the bank atlantic biz card and BT as quickly as u can and be done with them.
If they close the account, so what, you already got the money and it doesn't report.
I just don't understand why more people are not freezing all 3 reports before they try to move credit lines around. If they really want to see your report, they can just pull a soft.
If they refuse to do a soft, then you may not want them to see it anyway.

Barclay's lowerd credit limits on 2 of my existing accounts for too much credit available ... 6 months AFTER the AOR.
Barclays lowered my wife's credit line from $20K to $7.5K while the BT Check was in the mail to my bank. THAT PISSED ME OFF!

They lowered my credit line from $22k to just above the BT balance (a few months in a row, even) right after all my AOR inquiries and balances posted, but I've since paid most of them off and they haven't touched it, still sitting at $18k. Been using it as my primary spend card (US Air 1.5 miles/$) and they haven't balked at anything.

You know I wish I would have frozen all three. Three months after my AOR... I got hit with a hard inquiry from Barclays because they wanted to "review my credit".
I already sent them a letter demanding they remove this inquiry off my credit report. If they don't I may decide to sue them.

I see TC and EQ have the freeze button on there website for a few bucks more. EQ makes you get CW, but I wonder if getting that will mess with B*!!! Any thoughts or experiences?
I only have experian frozen right now, I don't worry to much about TU or EQ. I've had great luck in disp-uting eq inqs. Hardly anyone checks TU for me. So I really haven't been doing much B* lately.

Bank Atlantic (by Barclay) closed my business account due to high credit balance. When I log on my account online. All functions disappeared. I wonder how can I make a payment.
P.S. they didn't do any hard pull though.

I had 30k on my personal report. This account was open for about two months.

Ditto for me. Received a letter today. Part of a 3 month old AOR. This is my only Juniper card. No mention what will happen to the APR or the balance.

Jupiter lowered CLs to 1k on 6 months old E*migrant visa and 10 year old another brand card. In retaliation, I informed E*migrant D*irect that I can no longer do business with them, withdrew +/-$100k and closed account. Clearly, it is not the fault of E*migrant Savings but they should be more careful who they subcontract their credit card business to.

My Juniper Frontier card with a $20K CL was closed a few months back due to "sufficient credit." Not even post AOR!
I got hit with several Juniper CL reductions and one AOR card CLOSED (but I get to keep the rate and keep making minimum payments, so I really don't care that much, it wasn't a huge CL, like 6k).

How did they manage that? Juniper wasn't around 10 years ago...

They'll keep sending you a monthly bill and still honor the promotion APR but i dont know how long it's last.
Adding kindling to the fires, I just got hit with a CL reduction, down from 15K to 8850 (just 13 dollars over my balance). Since this will be my second card (Chase Sony the other), that have been neutered, I think I will pay at least 2-3 grand now so that it doesn't set off a chain reaction with other cards.

how many inquires do you have on your reports? debt?
I don't know off hand what my debts percentages are for my personal cards. You can check out my AOR thread
Most of my cards are under 50%. My AMEX is WAY under 50%. I have a small wachovia card that is a little high (80%), and my BOA is a little high (66%). The killer is probably my Chase Sony, which also got neutered last month, upping my usage from 30% to 99%.
I'm hoping this is not going to be a chain reaction. I just put 1500 towards the Barclays cards, and another 2 grand against the Chase Sony. I really hope they don't get into my Citi or AMEX accounts.

Oh yeah? Juniper cut my wife's credit line 7 months after her AOR and 1 month after the promo balance was paid in full. Her balances had done nothing but go down subsequent to her AOR.

Has anyone had Juniper decrease their CL, then close it later? I'd prefer to close it myself if they're going to soon anyways. But for now I want to get my missing $20k+ of CL back.
When I called, the CSR referred me to a "Portfolio Manager". They said my CL was reduced b/c my CR showed $100k in balances compared to $20k when I got the card over a year ago, and when my CR reflects a lower balance I could call back to ask for CL increase. I'm going to update my CRs and try to reinstate my CL next week. Will report results.
My story so far: -overall utilization is always <50%, but I did have a big spike (3x normal) in Feb. -I let my Juniper utilization close & report at >90% (by accident, it was a 8% BT check offer and I needed money quick! i think my cycle ended about 2 days after I cashed the check). -I did pay in full well before payment was due (about a week later). -CL decrease occurred just after that when they reviewed my CR (early march).

Just received a letter stating Barclay's decreased my CL from $9k to $7.2k, with a $7k current balance. They stated the reasons were: -Rapid Increase in CC Debt -Balances Too high on Revolving Accounts
Funny, as my balances were a lot higher (like 30% more total utilization) about 4-5 months ago. I've had the card for around 8 months. I bet the real reasons were that I live in Arizona and this place got hit hard by the sub-prime crisis.
Thanks for the thread OP and all the posters for their data points. I got the National Park and I Fly cards from Jupiter (Juniper, sorry, I thought it was hilarious) in my A0R. I was going to move the National Park CL to the I Fly and use the BT check, but now I think I'll leave the NP CL alone and just write a check from there.

To follow up my post (3 posts up)...
I was able to have Juniper look at my credit report after it reflected paying down the CC balances that triggered the adverse action. I also had to explain why I took it out and how I paid it off. I also updated my HHI. They reinstated my card so now I'll see if I have an "extra barrier" or if they'll just do it again.
Couple things they told me: 1) they review your credit every month 2) when credit balances exceed your salary, it raises a flag. 3) they will only drop your credit line to your balance + $100-200 so you won't go over the limit. 4) this is all b/c when people are foreclosing, the CC companies are left dead in the water.

What was the result of this action from the prespective of the institution you tried to make the deposit to? I ask because the same thing just happened to me (7K to 1K), only they reduced the limit the day check posted. Apparently, they do a credit review when they see someone who had tried to use a convenience check.
Did you depositing instutution charge you a fee?

Probably not the right place to put this but Barclay's actually pulled EXP on my most recent application.
No more TU all the time. It's probably time to go ahead and lock my EXP.
I thought I'd chime in with another data point for anyone even considering using Barclay's.
I signed up for a both a Juniper National Park Visa and a Bank Atlantic during a mini AOR. I was instantly approved for the National Park card and instantly denied for the business card. Juniper gives me a $5,000 credit limit and sends me a convenience check along with my credit card.
I write out the check to myself for $4,450 ($4,500 posts on account for $50 BT Fee) and deposit it into my WAMU savings account on 06/02/08, funds seem to be immediately available. Note that the bank teller states that the paper is "too white," but enters in the check information manually and it goes through.
Sometime in the beginning of July, I check my online account and notice that the National Park card has been closed. I call Juniper and the CSR states I should be receiving a letter informing me of why the account was closed. The letter states:
"Too Many Accounts Opened In The Past 6 Months" "Too Many Bankcard Inquiries Over The Past 12 Months" Note: Aside from the mistake of doing 90% util with the National Park card, all my other cards are 89% or below, with an overall util of 49%.
I search the forums and found this thread, something I should have done before applying. I accept my loss and figure I'll just pay the minimum each month and not give it much thought.
On 07/17/08 I receive an e-mail from WAMU stating 2 large withdrawals have been made in my savings account (I have them notify me with any changes over $1). I see this:
7/14/2008 *RETURNED DEPOSITED ITEM FEE $12.00 7/14/2008 *RETURNED DEPOSITED ITEM $4,450.00 Doing more searching, I noticed other members have experienced the same thing from Juniper/Barclay's and have had money withdrawn from their accounts.
What's different from mine, at least from the other posts I've seen, is that WAMU sent me a copy of the checks and states "Reason for return: COUNTERFEIT."
I have no problems with them taking their money back. If they're onto AORs and don't want to play, it's part of the risks of this game. I'll take responsibility for the $12.00 returned deposited item fee and not bitch and moan to Juniper/Barclay's about it since it's not worth my time. What I find outrageous is the claim of "COUNTERFEIT" since they sent it to me with their own credit card, practically asking me to use it with their 0% offer for convenience checks (A shiny insert with "0%" , "Deposit it to your account", etc were included with it).
Does anyone know if this COUNTERFEIT claim will affect me in any way? Adverse action from my bank or other financial entities?

Yeah, if either bank reports this to ChexSystems or TeleCheck...
Was the account closed when the check was deposited? If not, I would call Barclays and insist that what they did was illegal. They can close your account for new charges, but you should still be able to pay back on original terms (at 0% interest) unless you defaulted, which is not the case.
Thanks for the info, EugeneV. You stating that scared me enough to follow-up with both Juniper and WAMU.
WAMU transfered me to their fraud department and the person I talked with stated no inquiries or open cases were on my account. This meant that I should be in the clear on their side for systems like ChexSystems and TeleCheck.
As for Juniper, I had to call two different CSRs to get a reasonable answer. The first one stated I was writing bad checks and that's why my account was closed. I didn't get anywhere with her so I decided to call again. Another CSR was more willing to listen to the situation and inquire about the convenience check. He stated it was flagged because the amount was "too close to the limit" and deemed fraud. This allowed them to take the money back from my account. When I inquired about anything they can do about the $12 fee from WAMU, he said he can only give credits to open accounts. Since my account was officially closed, he couldn't do anything else.
Juniper's actions seem limited to just the bouncing of the check and I shouldn't be reported for any of these events. I'll do a follow-up to see if there is anything reported with ChexSystems and TeleCheck sometime in the future, that is if they allow consumer monitoring.
