TurboTax has a free federal option for everybody this year through their website. It's the bare bones 1040EZ and I don't think it will import information from previous years, but there's no income limit.

What is 1040EZ good for? Can it do mortgage interest, capital gains, etc? Or is it only for the simplest returns, where the taxpayer only gets a paycheck and pays rent, and takes the standard deduction, with no business expenses or anything?
When we receive spam about Turbo Tax being free, is that always about the 1040EZ version? I get those frequently, but don't remember seeing any mention of 1040EZ.
State Farm customers can prepare their Tax FREE using TurboTax online with FREE e-file - have to access the program through StateFarm.com (need to login). TurboTax Deluxe could be also downloaded for free through StateFarm link, but then e-file isn't free. No income limitation there.
Alternatively, TaxAct.com let ANYONE to prepare Federal tax (online or download) FREE using their basic software version with free e-file. Just have to put up with their push for Deluxe version upgrade.
