800-889-9939
877-513-9959 (see second post)

There is a large and ongoing thread at CreditBoards documenting positive experiences and account reviews resulting in CLIs at the above phone number. I can only find this number in FW buried in the monster "CLI Strategies without a hard pull" thread from '06, so I'm posting this up for the masses.

The CreditBoards thread:

http://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=256512

My own experience:

I got the "regular number" (not the above one) to CLI my 11-1/2 year-old-card in October by threatening to close it, so I don't seem to have offers/etc available to me right now. But I have spoken to them twice, once about converting my card (couldn't), and in both cases have had reasonable conversations with intelligent people who seemed to have the flexibility to look at my account and be creative. In both cases the people who answered identified themselves up-front as senior account representatives, and their manner seemed to be in line with the title.

And oh yeah - unlike the C1 number on the back of my card (for my case at least), the folks at the above number are speaking comprehensible English. No disrespect intended to anyone... just my experience.

Anyway, hope this helps get some CLIs for some AORers

800-889-9939 (first number found)
877-513-9959 (second number found, "first in the wallet" campaign)

These are for existing Cap One customers. The 2nd number was originally from a mailing someone got. I called without the mailing - no questions about how I got there.

Update: Apparently they are running a "First In The Wallet" campaign along with a *new* number: 877-513-9959

Got a sharp rep there and had a good conversation about how they want the C1 card to be 'first in the wallet,' they're reviewing accounts because they haven't kept up with their customers' needs in the past, etc.

Have fun folks.

Just called.

I did call them 10 days ago using a number from a different FW thread.

Each time they gave me a 30% CLI even though the time difference is like 10 days.

Thanks OP!

30% CLI x 2? Wicked cool.

Yeah! Keep in mind though their tiny initial credit limits.

Though again my card is less than 6 months old. Cool indeed! ;-]

I just off the phone with Capital One. Apparently, some accounts aren't coded for any such upgrades. I talked to the CSR, and she said that she thinks the system is screwed up because shes never seen this for someone who got the letter in the mail (which I didn't, but said I did). She could see that I had a CLI in October but shouldn't effect this, and I asked her if me not using the card for long periods would effect it and she said she didn't think so, others have had no activity for months and had offers coded for their account. She said I should call back in a few days in case the system is actually screwed up.

So, YMMV.

By the way, I've never seen a letter from them. Simply called the number and asked for CLI.

Just called again the first number and received a refusal for a CLI. Called the second number and got a $750 increase. This is the third time and within 2 weeks from the previous one. This time my reasoning for an increase was adding my wife as AU. So, I've got almost 2.5 times increase of my initial CL within one month.

Thanks much, OP!

I just got off the phone with Capital1 and was turned down for an increase. I have had the card for since 2004 and have a credit limit of $2k. She was very friendly and said she would send in a request, but said it probably wont go through. oh well.

I just called the first number listed and talked to a person. The number on the back of my card got me an automated "no" for my request. The woman I spoke to said she could offer me a small increase from $4500 to $4800. I told her I needed to make a large purchase of about $6k and a $300 bump was useless for me. I said I have several other cards with much higher limits that I will use if they can't up my limit. She basically apologized and hung up on me.

Is the second number any better, or do you think I should wait a couple days and try the first number again? I'd like to get the C1 points for this purchase, but looks like I may be out of luck.

Try the second number. It is tied to an active campaign. The first one (best as I can tell) is not.

Just called the second number. Only got a $300 increase, from $5500 to $5800. Got an increase last month from $3000 to $5500, so maybe i called again to soon, LOL. Was informed of the "first in wallet" campaign. She promised no hard credit pull.

So, I finally got back to them, and no, the system was right: because I accepted an offer in October of 2007, the system won't offer me one now. The new lady apologized, but couldn't do anything. Honestly, if this wasn't my oldest card, I would get rid of it.

Just tried my luck with the second number. My card is platinum 1% CB, 4 mo. old, $1000 CL, used and paid in full monthly.

CSR apologetically read the script "No upgrades are available at this time." He suggested using it for "everyday purchases" and paying the balance in full monthly.... I asked if he was looking at the same account statements I was....

Then he proposed "Do you have a job... maybe you could pay your balance two times a month? Or maybe even carry a balance...."

Posters on CB have reported success with asking for a BT>CL (requiring a CLI) and then backing out after the CLI is done....

On a whim I just did an online CLI for a Citi (Associated) Visa I opened at the same time as Cap1. Approved 14K->25K.

Capital One.... what's in your sock drawer?

i just called second number. got CLI of $500 without problem.

alert mods

No go for me on second number..

no new offers on my acount

Account details
Credit Limit = 2000
No activity in a while

opened 12/04

alert mods

No go for me either ...

I used their card a couple times (more than others , paid in full ...

Called twice, they can request a hard pull for a CLI, but I do not want it now.

I guess I have to wait until Fall.

alert mods

great! thanks for these!

called the 2nd number and got my limit doubled. it's much lower than my other cards, but something is more than nothing! i've had the card for years and no matter how many times i've asked for a cli online, they've given me that "no offers are available to you at this time" message. even the rep saw that message, but "tried something else", got my vitals, and asked the system for +$7k. she got +$2k instead, which i took gladly.
