I have done two different refer a friend bonus's from Citi with the same result and was wondering if other FW people had the same thing happen.

Citi's RAF (refer a friend) promotion involves them sending an email with your member number to your friends through their website and if they successfully sign up you get TYP's and they get their sign up bonus. I always cc myself to make sure of everything.

I did one way back on the Citi Divendend card for cash and had 2 family members sign up. Months went by and no reward. I called and started the "investigation" they came back with nothing. After arguing and showing theat their accounts were opened within the period of the promotion, they gave me the cash.

Fast forward to a couple months ago. For my wife's AOR I referred her and my brother. Both signed up with the email sent. Blah blah blah. The exact same thing happened. They did credit my 20K TYP (+5K for my innconvience) but it is BS that I have to chase them down for the promised bonus (3 seperate calls, + faxes of the offer and email sent + people that signed up addresses). I also sent the email out to other friends and have no way to know if any of them signed up without asking them.

This seems to be what I call the "rebate scam" which is don't pay and deny the claim then when the person calls say "ohh we'll put that right through." It's like a double catch on the payout.

Has anyone else had a better (or the same) experience with Citi RAF?

Doesn't look like this is an automatic bonus. Calls to CS will be required. Good luck.

That’s Citibank for you - A bunch of borderline-scamming degenerates. They "accidentally" cancelled my 0% BT for life after 12 months (they admitted the error) and no matter who I talked to I couldn’t get it reinstated. I think they gave me a couple thousand TY points for the inconvenience (gee thanks, assholes.)

Yep, I referred my wife for the Professional after getting a promotional e-mail. I was supposed to get 10K TYPs, but 3 months later I still have got nothing. They are "investigating."

Hi there, hopefully this'll help: I referred someone for a $100 statement credit in Jan 07. The credit was suppose to show up 3 months afterwards, but never did. I began bugging Citi about it around August 07 (never got around to I guess). They asked for a bunch of details (person's address, card expiration date, and other junk) and then began their "investigation" which took about 3 months to complete. Eventually I did get the credit but was an annoying hassle to follow through.
It seems to be that they assume that most people won't bother but it seemed worthwhile for me at the time and maybe for you too. Especially, if you have more than one referral.

Good luck!

now that you mention it, i referred a couple friends for dividend platinum cards a couple years ago and never got the bonus. i had assumed that they didn't use my referral properly and never went any further, but now I'm guessing they just ripped me off.

great toplic. I just had that question myself, and was wondering if there is a thread discussing it.

Referred 2 family members to Citi Prof via a link sent to e-mail. Both applied and got approved. I was deciding if I should be sending them e-mail or waiting. The new accounts already got their opening bonus credited.

I guess I will have to start chasing them.

1) E-mail customer service for status update.
2) You'll get some canned response asking you to call. You've now exhausted your "best effort" to resolve the issue amicably.
3) Sue them in small claims. Check with your Secretary of State for their registered agent's address in your state.
**Double-check you're naming the proper Citi entity---Citi has different names depending on states and business units.
4) A Citi attorney from FL will respond before your trial date, provided you have a legitimate claim.
5) They'll "settle" for your bonuses, with filing fees + costs.
6) Cash check are your bank or MoneyTree

The scam is back. Just got the email:

Earn up to 50,000 ThankYou Points from Citi® Cards

As you know, the Citi Professional Card is a terrific way to keep work expenses separate and has other great benefits, too.

Now, you have a chance to earn bonus points when your friends and colleagues are approved.

Tell your friends and colleagues to apply for the Citi Professional Card and you’ll earn 10,000 bonus ThankYou Points per approved account, for up to 5 approved accounts.*

Act soon! Your friends must apply by May 31, 2008.

Simply click here to spread the word.

Any bets if you will have trouble collecting the points? Make sure you document any people you have sign up!!

I wonder if one gets terminated as a CITI customer after making it through these steps?

Anyone actually get their bonus credited automatically? If not seems like this would be the basis for a lawsuit.

I'm still waiting for my referrals from back in November. It does say to wait 3 to 5 statement cycles for points to appear in the small print. I figure that may go into May depending upon the cycle dates.

just call them and they will tell you to fax in the persons name and address and they will post the credit... i have done it to several people who i actually didn't refer and they still gave me the credit

Yeah, I got it too. I thought I would at least sign up my wife, she would get 10K after $250 in purchases. If I have to make a call in 3-5 months, i'll just set a reminder in my Outlook and on my cell phone

I just got a letter back stating that they have no record of this promotion being offered to my account and to send proof. wtf? Should I send the fw thread link that I started after getting the email? I'm writing them a letter saying I have no way of knowing how many of my referals submitted an application (I know that both my parents did). I'm going to demand they give me the full 50K since it certainly is none of my business to snoop into my friend's finances to see if they applied. This seems like a shameless scam on citi's part. I know for a fact that when my parents applied, they did so correctly through the link that included my referral number.

Class action is good, as long as you can be the lead plaintiff. There must be a couple of million victims nationwide within the last five years or so.

And somebody mentioned 'rebate scams'. The last time I sent in four rebates, carefully complying with the terms, one sent me a check, three sent me denial postcards giving false reasons for the denial. All three swiftly agreed to pay when I called them, it was just a stunt to avoid paying the 90% of victims who wouldn't fight for their rebates. Just like Citi.
