I check my credit through TrueCredit and my wife's through Privacy Matters 123. After I froze Experian for myself, I was able to keep checking it through TrueCredit. After I froze my wife's, Privacy Matters 123 will no longer show anything for Experian. YMMV.

win, or anyone else who knows, when you do a temporary un-freeze of experian online, does it take effect immediately? the message on their website was not exactly clear. thanks

My guess would be that it would be instant.

I just froze my account online (TN) for $7.50. I went to the temp un-freeze page, and it requires a pin number. So I went to request a pin number. Order total free - but it said that you must mail this page in with a copy of blah blah. Anybody else do this and not send stuff in to get a pin? If you request a freeze by mail, they automatically mail you a pin in 10 days, so I was wondering if they would automatically mail the pin for someone that requested it online or if there was no way of getting around mailing something in. Nothing was said either way.

Also, on the temporary removal of a freeze page - they have for 7 days, 15 days, and 30 days, or other period. Does anyone know if you can remove it for only one day or does it have to be at least 7 days?

Thanks,
Brett

Yes it is instant if you put todays date as the unfreeze date ie. unfreeze from 4/18/08 until 4/19/08.

That will unfreeze instantly and refreeze at midnight the next day, but I think they might go by central time.

So yes BRETT, it is instant if you put todays date in it. I haven't tried for 1 week or 2 weeks etc.

Hey win333, what service can you use to either freeze your TU or EQ? I want to freeze EQ, so that I can do a couple CLI's really quick, force them to hit TU, and then bump them off really fast. My TU is full of SP's right now, so it will only stay on there for a couple days at the most.

Thanks,
Brett

Full of SPs?

You can sig-up for "EQ silver" on Equifax.com, then you can lock and unlock instantly. You can freeze/unfreeze your TU on TC's website (login and click the "identity" tab).

Some creditors will pull another if EQ is frozen and some won't pull another. You just gotta get lucky, but it's way worth it.

Full of SP's meaning that I've reached the magic number of SP's that is needed with TU in order to start B*ing hard inquiries off. Not actually full in the sense that you can't have any more.

Thanks,
Brett

Are there any other services that allow you to freeze your EQ? I don't necessarily want to pay $7 a month for just the ability to freeze and unfreeze my report and see only EQ reports - with no score and especially with no B*age. Thanks.

I live in DC and the fee is $10.58 and I'm assuming I just write a check to Experian but want to make sure that's correct.I froze my Experian report in February. I just noticed that the $10 check cleared today... 101 days after they received it and froze my report.

I wrote it out to 'Experian Security Freeze'.

bump

Found this most awesome thread via OP's post in this thread here. I added a freeze to my as well as Mrs crawfish's Experian file online (paid $10.60 for South Dakota).

I'm doing AOR 2.0 and a WOR very soon and will post my issuer responses to applying for credit...

I tried to get my pin before the official freeze letter arrived by clicking on "forgot my pin"

I guess I'll just wait for the letter to arrive.

win333 said:I'd update QS but I think our opinions are a little different.

No chance of A/A due to having a freeze, by law it is my right to freeze and does not mean I have something to hide.

Creditors that wouldn't pull another, AMEX and Discover don't pull Experian for some people. So I don't want people to think those creditors ONLY pull Experian.

You could add this if you want:

US bank tried to pull my frozen report for my 1st app.
But my 2nd and 3rd apps pulled EQ and I only got 1 pull.

So U.S. Bank actually pulled another on it's own, I didn't even have to ask.

But I never would have known if I hadn't done the 2nd and 3rd apps. So I think no one should give up just because a creditor tries Experian. Next app it might try another, maybe each card with that creditor requires a different CRA be pulled.

WHO KNOWS, but I nothing to lose since Experian is frozen.
from althes 8/19/2008: if your TU and EX are frozen US Bank will not pull EQ.

  • $10 to freeze
  • $10 to do a temp un-freeze
  • $10 to freeze it back on temp basis
  • $10 to permanently un-freeze.

Experian / California Freeze Procedures

Can anybody supply an approximate timeline for unfreeze in CA ? How long does it take to
get the PIN to temp unfreeze ? Chase pulled Exp, and won't pull others.

I got my pin about 2 weeks after the freeze. I haven't tried to unreeze yet

Have you tried a different application with chase, You might get lucky and have them pull a different 1.
It seems that many people site the 2 week reference before receiving one's pin. Am I the only one that received their pin when they initiated the freeze? I saved a copy of the webpage. Here's a copy-paste:

A security freeze has been successfully placed on your credit file. Your personal identification number is XXXXXXXXXX. You must submit this number in order to temporarily or permanently remove the security freeze from your credit file. This link prints the pagePrint this page for your own records.
To temporarily remove a security freeze for a period of time in order to apply for credit or for any transaction that requires that another party access your personal credit report, log on to www.experian.com/freeze or call 1 888 EXPERIAN (1 888 397 3742), then enter your identification information and personal identification number.
To permanently remove a security freeze, log on to www.experian.com/freeze or call 1 888 EXPERIAN (1 888 397 3742).
To view state specific rights you might have, log on to www.experian.com/consumer/help/report/fcra.html.

As a data point, I initiated the freeze around May of this year.

Did BOA pull for no good reason (e.g., just b/c they discovered that they no longer can pull [hard] from EX) or did it pull in connection with new account/CC application?
ipecac said when doing CLI, they pulled EX soft (I assume)
