Is there a way to confirm the freeze is in effect, other than waiting for Exp letter with unfreeze PIN?
For example, shouldn't I see a new alert in my TrueCredit report? Nothing there, so far.
Try requesting a credit report through http://www.experian.com/reportaccess/. The day my report was frozen, it started coming up with a notice stating that I would have to request my report to be mailed to me.

I just tried requesting my free annual credit report, and got the same response, so looks like freeze is in effect.

However, I also just got letter from Experian today saying that they have "removed [my] name from our preapproved credit offer mailing lists for five years." No mention of security freeze, or unfreeze pin. Looks like they sent me the wrong form letter. Did anyone else receive
same form letter? In addition to unfreeze pin?

My letter says nothing about removing me from the pre-approved list, maybe you can just go to that website.

OPT in pre-screened

I just did it just in case. It says it takes 5 days.

EDIT: link fixed, it add the HTTP(S) sometimes, I don't know why I didn't click on the (S) link.

I plan on sending my Request to Freeze Experian tomorrow, but who did folks that have done this before make the check out to if you had to pay a fee? I live in DC and the fee is $10.58 and I'm assuming I just write a check to Experian but want to make sure that's correct.

I just made it out to experian.

Instructions are available online or by calling an 800 number.

I apologize if this was asked already, but has anyone had any luck with signing up for AMEX CreditSecure with a frozen Experian report? I didn't think it would matter one way or another, but apparently I cant even sign up with just my EXP frozen. With PrivacyMatters it was no problem, I just get blank data for EXP.

I suppose I can unfreeze just to sign up and take another $5 hit, but I'd hate for it to not let me pull any of the reports again once I re-froze.

I had AMEX creditsecure before I did the freeze. It is able to refresh my Experian report with no problem.
Have you tried calling them to see if they can sign you up over the phone?

I tried and they would not. They also claimed that they will not be able to display any of the three reports if Experian is frozen. However, if you sign up for the business version (which includes personal reports as well) and then freeze Experian, you should continue to be able to access business reports. I have just removed the freeze for now.

I have the business Am3x CS and even with my experian and transunion frozen, I can still pull all 3. But signing up might be a problem when frozen.

After you've signed up, its no problem.

That's been my experience as well.

ok, exp is frozen. have not received a letter yet but i can tell because exp no longer reports on PM123. can see it with credit secure tho. just like win said. i'm figuring on a joint personal / business AOR, then shifting as much personal to business as possible, then uncorking the bt's. that seems to be the new-fangled method. can anyone point me to a thread where the specific subject of reallocating from personal to business is addressed?

I am in, too.

Advice for those who are about to do this. Before freezing, save available reports so you have an idea what you EX report looked like because it will not be reported anywhere else.

Or get CreditSecure before freezing. CS continues to update EX post freeze.

Has anybody had any success getting AMEX to pull from another bureau that's not Experian? I recently applied for an AMEX Starwood Business card with my Experian Frozen. and it was immediately declined(CSR said he couldn't pull from another bureau as the app was already declined so I would have to reapply and likely unfreeze EXP). I would appreciate any details on how this was done if it has been.

Random question - do you have any am3x cards? Can you have creditsecure without an AMEX card? I thought a pre-existing credit relationship with AMEX was required.

Perhaps the ability to use creditsecure after freezing EX is a state specific issue?
I'll go first. I had Creditsecure tied to my AMEX blue cash card before I froze EX. I live in CA and froze my EX report. Creditsecure can still refresh EX and does.

CreditSecure on my AMEX Cash Rebate (green) card; NY; fails completely since I froze.

I Googled "experian freeze" and clicked my way to a site that allowed me to freeze online. I don't know if this is just available in some states, or a new feature. Anyway, it was so convenient, I decided to go ahead and freeze right now. I just completed an AOR that hit my Experian quite hard and I don't want any more aftershocks. Discover hit me three times, once for the application, once when I reallocated, and once when I transferred the balance. After freezing, I realized I wanted a copy of my Experian report as a reference. I was able to get it from TrueCredit today, but don't know what will happen when I update tomorrow.
