Edit: After further research I realized that there was a very similar (same?) card before without Expedia branding. Sorry about the clutter.

Got an interesting credit card offer in the mail, and figured I would see what everyone thinks of it.

Interesting parts about this card:
Earn 1 point for every 3 miles on any airline when you buy the ticket with the card, up to 50k points a year.
Earn 1 point for all purchases.
Earn 2-3 points for purchases made on Expedia.
$50 off first purchase with Expedia

Yearly max on points is 100k. Points are redeemable through the Citi ThankYou network.

What I really like about this card is the points for airline travel. I'm not aware of any other card that uses this mechanism of giving you points based on miles traveled, and there aren't many rewards cards for air travel at all (looking at the big list, just the
Costco 2% AMEX and the Chase BP Visa).

Edit: According to this review flight points aren't treated as real thank you points and can only be used for up to half. Blah, I don't see this anywhere in the marketing material they sent me.

There's been a lot of discussion of the PremierPass (and PremierPass Elite) in general:

here
and here

However, I don't recall much discussion over the Expedia version of the card, and it's kind of interesting. For the regular PremierPass, I see the breakdown like this:

- Regular PP gets you a better signup bonus (10k TY points)
- Expedia version gets you can extra point or two per dollar spent at Expedia.

So, obviously, the optimal approach is to apply for the regular PP card, then convert to the Expedia version (I don't know if that's possible... I assume it is).

On the PremierPass Elite card, though, it gets slightly more complicated

- Regular PPE has better signup bonus (20k or 25k TY points)
- Regular PPE gets you extra point per dollar at drug stores, gas stations, and communter transportatoin/parking merchants.
- Expedia PPE gets you the same extra point or two per dollar spent at Expedia.

With the PPE, I can see how you might want to use the traditional version, especialy if you use it for spending on gas/drugs/groceries/commuting (the communiting benefit is faily unique)

If you buy travel on Expedia, either card can be a good deal, especially since teh Expedia points look to count as "purchase points", which will match against flight points.

Also note that if you're using Expedia solely to buy plane tickets, you'll pay an extra 10 or so in travel agent fees compared to the airline's site. This might wipe out any points benefit you'd get from using the card.
