What is a Balance Transfer?
You can use your Associated Bank credit card to pay off high interest debts. A check, drawn against your Associated Bank credit card account, will be sent to the other Creditor. The amount of the check will be added to the purchase balance on your account.
Why should I transfer balances?
Most balance transfer programs offer a lower Annual Percentage Rate (APR) for a specified period of time. You can transfer multiple balances to consolidate your debt, providing you have enough credit available. Then, you will have only one monthly payment.
Who can I pay with a Balance Transfer?
You can pay any creditor in the U.S. as long as you have an account number with them, including the Internal Revenue Service. Please note: you cannot pay balances on any Citibank, CHOICE®, or AT&T Universal Card accounts.
How long will it take to process my Balance Transfer request?
Finance charges will be assessed on Balance Transfers from the date the transaction posts to your account, which could be as early as today if the payment is sent electronically. If the payment is made using a Balance Transfer check, Finance Charges will be assessed from the date the check is received by Citi for payment. You will receive separate notification regarding the status of your request within 7-10 days. During this time, you can also check the Balance Transfer status page in Account Online. Please continue to make a minimum payment to your creditor(s) until that account is paid in full. Remember, all requests are subject to review and approval.
Can I transfer a balance that is not in my name?
Yes. The debt at the other creditor can belong to anyone.
How much can I transfer?
You can transfer any amount, including Balance Transfer fees, as long as the total amount does not exceed your available credit limit. PLEASE NOTE: you should not pay anything that is currently in dispute with another creditor, because you could lose your dispute rights.
What information is necessary to process a balance transfer?
Creditor's name, payment address, account number and the amount you want to transfer (providing you have sufficient credit available).
Is there a fee for transferring a balance?
Some accounts might be charged a fee. Please refer to your specific Balance Transfer offer to determine if your account has a fee.
What if I change my mind once I request a Balance Transfer?
Once you initiate a Balance Transfer, we cannot stop the process.
