bas2000 said:I'm not happy with this bank. There is no way I'm sending in a paystub with all my info on it to them. It's b.s. so I guess I won't get my $200. Ohh well, there are easier ways to get $200 than go through their crap. As part of the account opening process, I had to print six pages, sign two of them, copy my DL & utility bill and mail it to them.
Then they turn around and send me an email saying they didn't get the copy of my utility bill. I called them complain and they put me on hold for 10 min. After that, they come back and say ok, you can ignore that email. WTF? Also, per their Terms that I agreed to, no where does it say it's required I send in a copy of my paystub. I did see someplace which said they may ask for it...
Terms & Charges
Free checking $200 bonus offer is subject to change without notice, limited to one account per customer. Free checking $200 bonus requires activating full, direct deposit ($500 minimum) of recurring payroll, government benefits or pension disbursements. $200 bonus will be credited to the account (approximately 30 days) after first full, qualifying direct deposit posts to your account. We require that qualifying, full direct deposits be made continually for no less than six months from the date of the initial qualifying direct deposit. Should these deposits be terminated or the account closed prior to six months, any paid bonus will be charged from your account or shall be otherwise due to us. The bonus is considered interest and will be reported to the IRS with form 1099-int. I agree this bank is slimy. I even sent them a paystub as they requested, "first direct deposit." Then they emailed back and said that the first DD did not qualify, and they want another paystub. Then after ignoring me, some jack'f emails me and try's getting me to open a CD?! At every road block I politely told them I was switching from USAA, a bank often ranked #1 for customer service. They had an opportunity to win my other banking business and they fell flat on their face. . . repeatedly. |

I just got an email saying I was disqualified because I did not "deposit your FULL payroll for six recurring months." When I first started, I had a job and deposited the full payroll for two months. After that, I wasn't working but I did an ACH push for the same amount to fulfill the requirement. Apparently that didn't fly, they said they're going to remove the $200 from my account, even if it means being overdrawn. Is there anything I can say to change this decision? I still had a deposit coming in every month so I figure what's the difference to them where it's coming from. |

I think the idea is to foster policies that get good clients that use their products...not some FW scumbag working the system... I get the idea, but the only thing that really matters is if I fulfilled the requirements or not. There's nothing that says that the DD has to come from the same source for the entire 6 months. |

I mean, do they really have proof that the money I pushed wasn't from one of those sources? Isn't it just another bank account to them? |

But you know the truth and what you did...do you want to scam them? Hey look...play the game...I am just trying to play devils advocat with you... You took a chance and you lost....move on. This is a tough bonus to earn and I really do not agree with Metropolitan about their strict enforcment. This creates ill will with many folks... To launch a nationwide marketing campaign is really not want a local bank wants to do, unless they have nationwide branches...they should try to get local customers who come in to their bank...they should contact each "bonus earning lead" aggressivly. I think banks need more products to sell also....they need to break out of the box and get creative in these times...and by creative that is not to make stupid loans to people that cannot pay....They need more deposit products and they need to establish a market of lending.... I'm not trying to scam them. They wanted money deposited into the account and they got it. What that money that was deposited is called is more of a technicality than anything substantial in my opinion. I think it's more of a scam on their end to get me to open an account, fund it, keep it open, deposit >$500 every month, and then give me nothing in return. I think I deserve the bonus and I was looking for some help. It was stupid of me to use the same account to DD & withdraw money. Do they have records that they are the same account? How much information do they keep about transfers? I would hope the account numbers get erased after the transfer is made to protect my confidentiality/identity, but I'm not sure how banks operate. |
