They probably wouldn't ask if it were well over 500. Then use the money to pay your mortgage or something big. It sounds like they've thought this out, because other banks only ask for $100-$200, like my seven do. Either that, or the specific CSR who said this is a prude who thinks anyone with more than one bank account is doing something illegal. I'd get multiple confirmations of this before giving it any weight.
Rorer714 beat me to it. Here's the link: Metropolitan's personal banking web pageI'd still interpret 'full' to mean the full $500 amount. Also qualifying is 'retirement account distributions', which will post to the checking account like any other ACH transfer. And there is no way they are going to examine someone's IRA account transaction details to make sure the only withdrawals are to your MNB account. |

Bottom line, there's no way they can tell if it's your full paycheck or not, without verifying it via paystub or contacting your employer, etc. Just be smart about it; do $513.82 instead of something like $500 even. Make it *look* like a normal "full paycheck" amount and you should be fine. |

Has anyone had to call these folks. I like the fact that someone picks up the phone immediately, but cripes, I got xfered five times before someone could tell me that it will take another week to get a online passcode. |

Has anyone tried pushing an amount over $500 from another account to Metropolitan? It seems to me, one could find out quickly if this method will work as the bonus terms state:
"$200 bonus will be credited to the account after first full qualifying direct deposit posts." If the push does not work, then bail, try another account to push from, or setup a payroll direct deposit.

So they require this $500 minimum reoccurring DD for 6 months, not just a one-time $500 DD? That is, even though they give you the $200 bonus after the first $500 DD, you must continue with reoccurring DD for the remainder of the 6 months? Anyone perform the DD, then just ACH pull it back (ING/FNBO/etc) the day after for higher interest rate? That is, leave a baseline of just a few dollars in the account? |

Anyone have the mailing address for returning the signature confirmation/DL/utility bill/beneficiary documents? I recall it was a PO Box, but the document itself only lists some few NYC headquarters addresses. |

LOL
Instead of calling the bank, people ask strangers on FW where to deposit their money. You make a good point. In my case I already looked up the routing number, but wanted to validate it. Thanks to all who responded. It is also likely if someone posted a bogus number, 3 other people would have jumped all over them. |

Anybody knows if they offer free checks? My account has been open for 2 weeks but have not received any checks yet. My employer requires a voided check for direct deposit. Thanks in advance. |

i just wanted to say that it is definitely possible to open this account online-- i live in chicago and have done it all virtually. that said, it seems like they are a small bank without a lot of infrastructure, and i've probably spent more time dealing with them than i feel is worth $200-- and i still don't have online access to my account. still, free money is free money, so i'll stick with it until i get the bonus... |

sunblue said:Do I understand correctly, that if one can only make the required monthly dd from a savings or checking account, one cannot take advantage of this offer? I can meet all the other stipulations but would need to be able to do the dd from one my savings or checking accounts. Thanks for the clarification. So you can meet all the stipulations except the only stipulation? The claim they want a complete payroll DD of at least 500 per cycle. After calling them several times (and still never receiving my online access code), I'm guessing this isn't a "ninja" run bank, so I'm guessing you may be able to finagle something. |

They really take their time on this account opening. I opened and deposited $300 on 2/21, the ATM card, PIN letter, February statement, welcome letter trickled in. I just got my checks so I can finally see my account number and routing number. I just applied for online account access, and I have to wait for 2 mailings, one for online id and the other password. At least now I can setup DD from work online and hope to get my bonus next month. |
