Don't hang up immediately if you get a call from Citibank credit cards. It may not be a credit protection solicitation!

A Citibank rep called today and offered me 5 thank you points per $1 spent for the next 3 months on an existing card.

The offer was made on a Citi Diamond Preferred Rewards AMEX which was part of an AOR and was paid off Dec 07. I hadn't used the card for purchases for over a year, which was what triggered the offer according to the rep. He offered me some new rewards to start using the card or a lower interest rate. (I didn't explore the lower interest rate because I assumed that lower did not mean 0. If someone else gets a call, maybe they can ask.)

This isn't the same as the Citi Cash Return Mastercard because it offers thank you points instead of cash. Still, I use thank you points for student loan rebates so they are almost as good as cash for me (especially as HYS rates approach my loan rate). Plus, no hard pull and no waiting for the card to arrive.

And I 'm hoping it's not an either/or situation and that the cash return card will still be around in 3 months.

Got a call from Citi on Friday.
A rep offered me 0%APR for six months, and it will be prime+8 after 6 months. I laughed at the guy and said NO.

It seems to me that all CC comapnies want "customers with good credit" to spend more money and carry more debt. On the other hand, they either reduce credit line or close the accounts of those customers with poor credit.

Don't you love capitalism?

Got an invitation in the mail a few weeks ago too. It feels great to get Costco gas w/ 5 TY points per dollar.

My Citi DPR AMEX BT came due in Dec...I called and they gave me 0% APR for 2 months on purchases, which increased the time I needed to pay off my BT since balance transfer amounts turn into purchase amounts after the promotional period.

Got similar offer 4 weeks ago by mail on my Citi Premier Pass (that I just downgraded from Elite). It's sweet since I had about 25,000 flight points on it so I am effectively getting 10 points per $1.00.

Just called Citi PP card and asked about any promotion on my card (I am expecting a big purchase > $3000). Offered 5 thank you points per $1 spent for the next 3 months on an existing card.
