Don't hang up immediately if you get a call from Citibank credit cards. It may not be a credit protection solicitation!
A Citibank rep called today and offered me 5 thank you points per $1 spent for the next 3 months on an existing card.
The offer was made on a Citi Diamond Preferred Rewards AMEX which was part of an AOR and was paid off Dec 07. I hadn't used the card for purchases for over a year, which was what triggered the offer according to the rep. He offered me some new rewards to start using the card or a lower interest rate. (I didn't explore the lower interest rate because I assumed that lower did not mean 0. If someone else gets a call, maybe they can ask.)
This isn't the same as the Citi Cash Return Mastercard because it offers thank you points instead of cash. Still, I use thank you points for student loan rebates so they are almost as good as cash for me (especially as HYS rates approach my loan rate). Plus, no hard pull and no waiting for the card to arrive.
And I 'm hoping it's not an either/or situation and that the cash return card will still be around in 3 months. ![]()
