Are people transfering money out of MM account?
are we sure that won't effect geting the thank you points...?

Third time was also a charm for me with Chase. When I asked Citi to try a 3rd time, I called the new accounts number someone listed earlier. They were able to reprocess the request without issue (the first time I asked Citi to retry, I called the regular # and it was a headache to get someone to understand). It took 2 days after I called Citi to see it as pending on my Chase account.

I then called Citi bank, and was told that they would process it as purchase. Again, it failed. PPE said it was cash advance and declined.

Did anyone have ways to solve this issue? Thanks!

That really sucks, I had very little issue funding via PPE. The first time they tried it was flagged as a suspicious charge, I called PPE and they removed the hold, I had Citi try again the next day, and it went through as a purchase. Granted, I'm still waiting for the statement to print and to get my ~40k TYP (25k signup + ~15k funding). Are you trying to go above your revolving CL on the PPE? Otherwise, not sure what to say here other than to maybe re-fax the form so it goes through as an automatic charge rather than a manual charge, if that might work.

I successfully linked my Citi Professional and Citi Associated Bank cc's to my citibanking accounts(or rather, to my citi debit card), on both of which I have being carrying balance. Does this necessarily mean that they are already considered into the combined balance, once they are linked?

I would rather not disturb the citi bank about this because it appears to me that they are counted. So I would just leave it, and if my balance in the checking and savings only falls below 6k and I am charged the monthly fee, I will find another way to save it. Anyway, the monthly fee is only $9.50.

BTw, anyone knows if they charge for the writing-a-check fee if I do an ACH using electronic checks(like within Fidelity)?

I tried funding mine with citi cashreturns and ppe respectively for checking and savings. cashreturns treated it as purchase while ppe as cash advance. I changed ppe to chase sonycard where I have 0apr purchase, and today it shows up decreasing the available cl. the cash advance limit for the Sony is lower than the amount so it should be a purchase this time.

Can you please guide me as i am also in teh same boat. i am an exixsitng citi customer andopned an account recenlty with code 'csxl' for the 20k pts,

to my agony
1) tried with Citi PP Elite card for 18k REJECTED cited as cash advance
2) tried again with with citi PP ELITE for 15k REJECTED agin told cash advacnce.
3) tried for 25k with chase freedom card DECLINED cited as security reason. talk to them removed the secuirty hold.
4) asked citi to try again for 27k again decline by chase today morning and was told next time they will clear it. Got a call just now mentioning that citi was TRYING TO CODE AS CASH ADVANCE a 4 digit caode used by banks for cash advacne.

Caqlled citi as they are always reitriating that it is a PURCHASE and will try again on MONDay.

My question is was you account a new one or and exisint g customer. i have not send them the credit card form . do you ask me to do that. will that be coded as puchase??????

otherwise i will give up and fund the account as is with cash

Thanks

Has anyone had any luck doing a large purchase that exceeds their CL, but first creating a credit balance on the card allowing for enough funds? I asked this of another poster via PM and they said they have had the purchase reversed which caused a chain reaction of havoc. I don't have a CL large enough for this deal due to an AOR I am in the middle of, and was thinking about a credit balance approach. If anyone has any experience with this idea either with this offer or other experience, I would be thankful for your advice.

Given, I could always transfer $ from my AOR account, but I wanted to get the cc points/reward too if possible.

Anyonne tried BOA IOWA rewards Card? Will the initial deposit be coded as purchase or not? I have highest credit line on that card.Thanks.

I have the same experience. I called PPE, and was told last time $1000 was coded as cash advance too, but went through and showed up on my statement as purchase.

However, this time $27000 exceeded the cash advance limit,so PPE rejected it. I have done twice, each time the $27000 was coded as cash advance. I do not know what to do now.

LiKaShing said: Should I call TYN or Citi to ask when my points will show up?

Already did that... They should show up when you earn some points... In my case that would be in the second statement... as the funds had not posted by the end of the first!

Would be a good idea to call Citi and confirm that you are enrolled in TYN... or else... all this headache would be for nothing...

Is "double dip" possible with this offer?

I was a checking & saving customer before this offer came out. First I saw the checking+MM offer, as an exisiting checking account customer I opened a new MM account and deposited 25k for 20k bonus TYP.

Now I see there is another offer at citi.com which are almost identical to the previous "checking+MM" offer, with the only difference being "open a ultimate saving account" instead of "MM account".

http://citi.bridgetrack.com/cbol/08/balancebuild/default.htm?Promo_ID=CP74&BT_X=1&_u=visitor&_d=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eciti%2Ecom&BVE=https%3A%2F%2Fweb%2Eda%2Dus%2Ecitibank%2Ecom&BVP=%2Fcgi%2Dbin%2Fcitifi%2Fscripts%2F&M_M=S&BTData=402107C726861745955484BBABEB0A8A699938493F9FEF0E9EAC5C2DE40AB382&BT_AS=8&BT_CON=1&ProspectID=B033CCCFAFAB443C90CC9359C24E1700

If I deposit 25k into my existing ultimate saving account, am I able to get another 20k TYP, in addition to the 20K TYP for the MM account? I know probably no one can give an definite answer on this but just want to know what people here think about this.. Thanks in advance for any input!

Anyone here know if you can double dip?

Please remember that you will get a 1099 form.

RagingBull said: Anyone here know if you can double dip?
I asked. The CSR said he would try, but could not guarantee, since it says "this offer can not be combined with any other offer." I said I was willing to pay two bills per month for double the time, but he thought I probably would not get it because the first promotion had not ended before the second started. I agree with him, but went ahead and tried, since what I was really after was the reward points from funding with a credit card. We'll see.

dajabon said: Status update to my post below.

I took the plunge with the Pentagon Federal Credit Union Platinum Cash Rewards CC, over the phone they said it was posted as a purchase and they were right. My statement cycle finally closed and this is what I see online now:
PLATINUM CASH REWARD -325.88 (I did a deposit a little over the minimum)
So it worked! An instant $325 return on my investment just for using my credit card to fund the savings account.

The downside is that I used my Chase Continental card to fund the checking account and it is not going through at all. Gotta call them. Maybe I should just pay the Pentagon Fed CU card off now and try to charge another 25,000 for the checking account. Thoughts? Pushing my luck? Maybe.

dajabon said: Uhh.... I just printed the "Citibank Online Credit/Debit Card Deposit Form" and I don't understand how they can tell from the information on the form in which Citi bank account to put my credit card funded deposit. Seriously the form is very simple: https://web-ao.da-us.citibank.com/popups/ao/CreditCard.pdf

Can you veterans enlighten me here, because I think I am really missing this one. Also how can I communicate which account to fund for each credit card, as other have said they used 2 credit cards for their initial deposits. THANKS!

By the way, I am taking the plunge with my Pentagon Federal Credit Union CC (1.25% cash rebate and $500 cash advance limit for risk mitigation). This should get me at least an immediate $325 profit (tax free).

dajabon,

You just inspired me - I submitted a CC app for my penfed account (which I had been denied in the past for Pyramiding Debt), & got approved for $45k... I was guilty for trying to fund it with some 0% business credit AOR monies, and wasn't making any money on the transaction... so thanks!

I know this is probably a dumb question but I don't see a place to put my bank information on the form you fax in. How are they supposed to know what account to put the money in. Have people been listing there savings account numbers on the top lines

Setup my funding with the BofA NEA card for 32k. Charge went through on the first shot.
Will reply back when the statement arrives.

I called CITI about this, and they told me to put the appropriate account number (e.g., checking or savings), AND the file number. The file number is assigned to your application before the account numbers are generated.

As long as you clearly mark which is which, there should not be a problem.

Cool, will be good another data point. Mine was treated as a purchase, statement closed, WorldPoints posted.

can i call and get my file number if i don't know what it is

You can call citi to get your file number.

In my case, I have checking account already so I went for the 20k points with ultimate savings. I opened the account online and I didn't see the funding option for cc. I had to call citi to fund with chase cc and I was assigned an application #. I faxed the form with with other info and it went through finally. (chase automatically refused the transaction, called chase' security dept, called citi to ask citi to try again, it went through on the second try).

Is there a valid link for opening a Money Market Plus account instead of an ultimate savings account? I wanted to open a money market plus one because I have a citibank checking and a savings already but I would like to use the open deposit funding to get money from my cc.

Woohoo!!!

Used my Citi AA card - heart was pumping but just got confirmation over the phone that it went through as a purchase. I'm assuming there won't be any problem then with the miles posting once my statement is generated. As for the 20k promo TYN (I already had a checking account), I have technically used 'Citi Funds' so we'll see.. but I can't help but be quietly confident that I'll get those as well. I love FWF.

Thanks to all the contributors in this thread. I'm off for a celebratory beer.

I'll take a guess and say that I think the 'file #' is the reference number that comes in the Welcome e-mail that's immediately sent after you create the account. I think this applies only to those who went through the online site.

EDIT: Called this morning and CSR gave me a different # than the one referenced in the email.

I have an ultimate savings already and chose to open the checking account by logging into my citibank online account (not as a brand new customer, but as an existing customer), and used all the personal information provided from their stored database. But at last I failed to find a link to fund the account with a credit card, only inter-bank transfer allowed.

Can I just fax the universal funding form from the link here in this thread and get the checking funded with my credit card? Will they accept that?

I have twice, once for my father, and once for my son, set up the account online, then called in and asked for funding by credit card over the phone. Worked both times, but don't let time pass between setting up and funding.

Does it usually take the next business day to process a CC deposit? I checked my online statement and my total available CL hasn't changed. If the CC doesn't go through, do they also give you a courtesy call to notify you?

TIA

Both times I have done this (this week) it went through next day.

Funded Ultimate Money Account with Chase. Posted as purchase.

peteypablo said: Funded Ultimate Money Account with Chase. Posted as purchase.

You are lucky Peteypablo.

I finally give up the funding process with the credit card option. Chase sees all the attempts as CASH advacne and rejects it. God knows if they will ever process it.

Dont know still if you have and exisiting checking account that they will process it as cash advacne. only if you open a fresh account no linking to exixsting account will get you the purcahse.
the last resort i want to fund with is to get it funded with a thanyou points card check card and see it makes the difference. i got them to increase my lmit to 15k. so lets see what happens

How do you make sure that it's posted as purchase not as cash advance? I tried to call Chase, they told me that if i want to lower the cash advance limit, that will also lower my credit line.

Whats the best strategy to liquidate the accounts? There is a $6,000 minimum to avoid fees, and there is a tiered interest that seems reasonably competitive at $25,000 but not at $6,000. I am thinking the best thing to do is just zero out the account entirely once the requirements are met for the 40,000 thank you points rather than withdraw down to $6,000 and get the low rate.

I don't see these tiers of which you speak - it just says Ultimate Savings Account - 2.5%. The Ultimate Money Account is 2.7%. Neither is competitive with the 3.75% at Capital One right now, so I've moved $19K over there and left the $6K in Citibank to avoid the service charges.

tsukidayo said: How do you make sure that it's posted as purchase not as cash advance? I tried to call Chase, they told me that if i want to lower the cash advance limit, that will also lower my credit line.

Can you reallocate to another card that has a lower ratio of cash advance to total credit limit? That's what I did for my wife, ending up with a Chase card with a $54K credit limit and a $11K cash advance limit. If a $50K transfer goes through, I know it's a purchase.

^ that is exactly what I did.

I just found out that my transactions were declined.

However, when I called one of my first credit card issuer, they told me it was b/c there were two charges attempted, one at $20k+ (which was supposed to charged to other account), and one for $8k, the charge authorized for that card.

When talking to the Citi new account rep, I was informed that the "back office" would have to review it, and they could not pull up the original faxes that I sent, which would show two different card numbers, one for the checking account and one for the savings. However, I could not talk to anyone that was able to see my original faxes, and the "back office" doesn't take calls.

When I called up my second credit card issuer, no charge had been attempted.

I think my experience is the anomaly, but to avoid I recommend sending in two separate faxes, so the "back office" doesn't get lazy and enter the same number for each account you want to fund, when you actually put down two different credit cards.

Gave citi correct number for saving account ($20k+ charge). However, citi said they could not reprocess the card that was declined (due to their error mind you). I called up credit card issuer and they are overnighting me a second card for that account w/ a different number to be able to fund.

Citi's customer service and transcription of numbers has not won me over as a loyal customer--then again, customer service wouldn't, but good rates always will, until someone else offers more.

I have the Money Market Plus. I don't have the current rates, but as of 2/12 it was

1.25% <$10,000
1.75% <$25,000
3% <$50,000 (I think this is 2.7% now)
3.25% >$50,000

So by liquidating down to $6,000 you take quite a hit on the interest rate. From 2.7% to less than 1.25%.

2.70% >$50,000
