It has been good to me in Alaska. Most of my Alaskan friends have used this card for years, particularly for the free companion ticket and 2,000 bonus miles every year.

Just remember free flight is 25,000 in partner cities (other than those serviced by Alaska Airlines and Horizon).

After the first year costs $75.

Thanks Ferro, I'm applying today.

The first year's fee is not waived, said the online csr.

The companion ticket is $50.
Unlike a lot of companion ticket offers, the Alaska one ends up being useful especially
when used on a first class ticket for Hawaii or Mexico.

I think the first year they send you two Boardroom passes as well.

not to thread crap, but I'd never fly Alaskan Air. My buddy works for the FAA and says they are by far the worst airline in existence. In 2000 they ignored repeated requests by the FAA to do some required hydrolic maintenance on the tail fin of one of their aircraft. The fin jammed in flight and plane became inverted and crashed in the Pacific. There were no survivors and about 90 people were killed.

Rain man says quantas is the safest, except they've since had a wreck. I'd never fly on ANY airline that EVER had an accident.

Looks like I'm gunna drive to hawaii.

LOL - great Rain Man pull! That did make me curious, so I looked it up: http://www.airsafe.com/airline.htm

Lots of airlines have had accidents, there are only a few that haven't. Delta and United have had accidents since 2000.

Still safer than driving.

Will they waive the annual fee the first year?

im pretty sure this card is NEVER FEE FREE for one year....They have had this offer for years and will have it for years to come....20K bonus miles on signup, HOWEVER, if you add the cost of 2 board room passes and a companion ticket, then it offsets the cost of getting the card for $75.00.

That reminds me, you only get the board room passes the first year.
You get the companion ticket every year.

And indeed, they've been running this 20K bonus mile deal for years.
There's a similar deal for a MC for Canadians available too.

I bit. It appears, however, that the Companion Ticket can't be used with the freebie. Anyone try that?

According to your Wiki article it's more so Boeing's fault (or the original company that manufactured the MD series planes). The jackscrew suffered from premature wear.

Too bad Southwest and Evergreen don't fly there

I must have tried a dozen times over the years to get a CSR to waive the $75 annual fee - begging, demanding and threatening to close the account had no affect. I've since stopped using the card for almost a year and now BofA is sending promotional checks for 12 months of 0% with a max of $90 BT fee. I literally get a letter with checks each week.

I applied for this one as well recently. I got approved for the "Visa Signature Card", but got sent the "Platinum Plus" version, which will only get you 5,000 bonus miles. Emailed BofA, and they had me call the credit department @ 866.421.8071 who quickly were able to change the card type, and increased my limit as well. They were able to submit the 20,000 bonus miles in addition to the 5,000 that i've already received.

Thanks OP
