Hi there, I recently applied for checking, savings, and HSA, but was declined becuase they "couldn't verify my identity". I assume this is due to the fact that I recently moved to TX from another state and maybe my credit report isn't updated with the new address that I provided to Alliant. I noticed that this might be a common problem with their online system. I did fill out the paper form and plan on sending it in, but I was wondering why such a high % get automatically declined. Any thoughts?

I don't recall if Alliant asks i.d. questions on the online application (sounds like they do from your question), but at least twice I have failed such identity quizzes at different institutions for various reasons (usually ambiguous questions) -- even though I am really me. The most important thing to do to minimize the risk of any further problems is to call (during regular business hours so you get talk to an actual Alliant employee) and explain the situation. This is true even if you have since submitted a paper application. Again I don't recall for sure, but I assume there is a phone number on the application for questions. If not, call 800-328-1935.

Thanks! I went ahead and called. I faxed my paperwork over there to expedite the process. You still have to send it in by mail, but it sounds like my application should be processed by tomorrow

Did you wait for the mail (if yes how long did it take and the outcome?) or called alliant (after how many days and what was the outcome)?

I got an email asking for drivers license and 2 other forms of id. I'm about fed up with Alliant.

Same here. They are asking 2-3 documents for proof. I will send the docs in a day or two.

How long does it take for them to validate and then generate the account number?

How and when will the next steps happen - online access setup, initial funding etc?

I went into the Los Angeles branch today (by LAX) to apply and it was EASY, no sweat. Filled out their short application, had my drivers license copied and that was it. Soooo much easier than the online process. If you have a branch nearby (which isn't likely but if you somehow do) go to it!

The funniest part is the woman who helped me go to the eligibility section of the application and literally used air quotes and said "we'll just say 'PTA member'". HA! These guys are awesome

As an update, I just received an email stating my accounts have been opened. It looks like it is important to just follow-up with the customer service reps and they can take care of business. I am looking forward to using my account!

Do they have any set time of the month when they change rates?

They decide during the last few days of the month...then it goes into effect on the 1st of the month...

When I signed up they said I didn't have the documentation needed or something didn't work for the automatic online form, but before I could fill out the manual form I got my starter kit and it has been working great since then.

I am pleasantly surprised to find that the first $5000 of my scanned check deposit is now available immediately. This is the same for deposits made using ATM.

Anyone else noticed this "upgrade"?

When did you do the online application?

This came up in another thread, and I'm pretty sure was mentioned somewhere in this thread too in a distant past, but I'll mention it again for the benefit of the new members, many of whom I think didn't read every page here

MoneyPass ATM withdrawals are free to Alliant members, thanks to CU24 and MoneyPass alliance.
MoneyPass ATM locator.

This is non-trivial and you wouldn't know it from Alliant website, so maybe someone could update QS.

(I have several MoneyPass ATMs convenient to me that otherwise wouldn't be free.)

I just did the online application yesterday. When it didn't go through, I called them up and explained the situation. They said I could fill out the paper form and fax it in to expedite processing. However, I was told that I still needed to mail in the hard copies after the fax. I called back to make sure they received the fax and within a couple hours I received an email stating that my account had been opened.

if someone comes in and doesn't get the airquotes treatment, has a record of someone else getting the airquotes treatment............ is alliant liable? can alliant be sued? is there a discrimination suit in there? or not?

easily, if a pattern has been recorded. (see also: reports of 'special pricing' during the aftermath of Katrina: blacks would get the price in the window, whites would get 'discounts'; my favorite example, however, had to do with rentals, not stores, where it was reported that one landlord thought 'blacks and guatamalans' were used to dirt floors, but didn't offer/show units with dirt floors to whites.)

if no pattern is recorded, no problem. if a pattern is recorded..... if some people get the 'airquotes', but others are told in no uncertain terms they have to meet qualifications, with proof, what happens then?

if you, mttatkns, wish to state that that kind of thing never happens, that's fine; if you also, mttakns, wish to state that even if such did happen there's no way to prove it's discrimination, that's also fine.

i believe that 'airquoting' can lead to trouble, and that it would be best to just have everyone meet qualification in order to apply and be accepted, instead of playing loose. if I'm wrong, and making such arbitrary decisions on the fly is ok for most folks here, then i'm wrong.

Are you certain of this? That press release is old. In addition, a search around me at:

http://www.cu24.com/ATMLocator/index.aspx

lists the MoneyPass ATMs in my area as NOT surcharge-free. The tentative language at the CU24 site, coupled with the fact that Alliant's website neglects these ATMs leaves me wondering if they are indeed free...

Anyone -- feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

and just to note: if the atm is not on Alliant's directory...Alliant will NOT refund the fee if you get charged......I know this for a fact...

I once used a CU24 atm and got the fee...apparently it is only CU24Here locations that participate in the no fee network....i requested a refund from Alliant and was not granted a refund because the atm location doesn't come up in their "service locator"...so proceed with caution on those.....

If the atm says it is going to add a fee...do NOT proceed with the transaction, assuming that if you actually do get the fee, that Alliant will cover it...
