I need a little supplemental income and a way to be able to save for "the future"

I have heard of several people who work part time jobs for not only extra income, but employee discounts, and perhaps some free money in the way of a matching 401K

my main goal is probably one that others think of, they may have just never thought to ask, and that is - what companies offer any and all of the following to their PART TIME employees

matching 401K (in any amount)
medical / dental benefits
employee discount (i think there are probably more companies that do this than offer either of the above - so let's keep this one at a minimum - as i want this thread to be more about benefits like medical and 401K)

If you have any of this information to share, please do wo, but if we could keep it focused on companies that are national or even regional that would help a greater number of people rather than having local places like maybe a doctor or dentist or some mom and pop shop in your neighborhood.

Please also post RUMORED companies - perhaps some of us can verify this information as we are out and about.

If you work somewhere and are PART TIME, please post your company name as well as what benefits they offer

If this is in the wrong forum, perhaps we could have it moved? i figured that a thread on benefits and 401K would be well suited for finance, since lack of health care can ruin ones finances, and a matching 401K could assists ones finances greatly!!!!

I'll throw one out there too. REI offers benefits, though I'm not sure exactly what. REI and Starbucks were the two I had heard of.

I know Home Depot gives part time workers some benefits also.

Some grocery stores. Albertsons/Ralphs/Vons/Stater Bros. in Southern California offer health care after 6 months, 12 months for baggers. You must work a minimum of 24 hours, which is also the guaranteed number of weekly hours. No 401k, as they have a pension system. Food 4 Less also offers health care, but I am not sure after how many months. I'm sure Costco offers some good benefits, but I don't know how theirs works.

I agree with the grocery store suggestion. Their benefit schedule is regional depending on the local union agreement.
Costco has benefits for PT employees after 6 months...medical, dental, vision, 401-k, free business membership--no store discount however.

My wife worked for an HCA (I think) affiliated hospital in Houston (HCA is a huge hospital group) as a therapist. If you worked 24-25 hours a week ("full" part-time) you could recieve benefits (401k, insurance, etc). Less than that and no benefits. PRN jobs (as needed) had no benefits. But the twist was if you were PRN (in her case, she had pretty set scheduled hours) you would make more ($40-45/hour), whereas if you were "full" part-time or "full-time", you would make less per hour (~$27). So benefits and lower pay, or no benefits and higher pay. In our case we figured out that the benefits weren't worth the decreased pay.

A major hospital I worked for offered benefits for part time workers (25 hours or more).

I now work for a State University which also offers health insurance and 401K (but no matching) for 20 hours or more.

The BayCare Health System - consists of 9 hospitals in the Tampa Bay area - offers full medical, dental, vision, life insurance, tuition assistance, and a 50% matching 401k for all part-time team members working a minimum of 30 hours per pay period - yes, 15 hours per week. The 401k and matching is available to all team members, regardless of the number of hours you work.

I worked for our county government 20 hours per week for five years, and I got full benefits including matching retirement funds which earn 7% per year. When I left, I got to leave my money in the retirement fund. It is still sitting there earning 7%.
