Hello all
I am looking for recommendations for a book on finance. My sister has asked for a basic/beginners book on money/finance. She wants to know what she should be doing with her savings/retirement/etc. I have gotten her to start on the retirement, 529, and basic investments. She wants to have a book that will help her understand the basics of investing/planning/etc. She does not need "get out of debt" type books.

Although I can just plug in some terms at Amazon and get a list of potential books based on titles, I was hoping someone had a few suggestions based on th reading of the book

thanks

Try "Investing from Scratch" by James Lowell. Good primer for most types of investments for someone literally at the beginning of their investing life.

Try Boglehead's Guide to investing which is all about buy and hold, using index funds and sticking with an asset allocations through the rough times. It also briefly touch upon things like long term care insurance and life insurance. Very easy to read good for beginner.

I really like Personal Finance for Dummies by Eric Tyson. It's a good all around book for learning about managing your money, investing, saving, etc. Two of his other books are good as well for a more specialized look: Investing for Dummies and Mutual Funds for Dummies. I really like hoxbox's suggestion of the Bogglehead's Guide to Investing, which deals with where to place your investments and why.
