I have looked and searched for help but havent been able to find much. I apologize if this post is inappropriate. I haven't traded before with real money, only simulations with play money and R.
I have 10K and am looking to open a trading account that will give me at least 2-1 leverage with margin, provide some good data and software for stock analysis, and have some nice bonus for opening an account. Also low trade fees would be nice.
I don't mean to discourage you, OP, in fact, the very best luck to you, but it seems to me you're about to find out the difference between a simulated environment and the the "real deal". Update us, say, two months into your "high leverage" endeavour.
Two FW readers got $1,000 credited to their account today. Deal still working!

I certainly think we should be discouraging the OP! People who actively trade stock generally don't do too well, and doing it on margin is especially risky. If you've got a ton of money and can afford to take big risks with some of your money then that's one thing, but if all you have is $10k then this is a terrible idea.
I'm hoping to have the SinglePapa $1k bonus credited to my new ameritrade account soon. The TDAmeritrade new accounts rep was able to verify before I signed up that the $1k bonus deal was still active. So SinglePapa is not just making this up. Whoever's been complaining to the mods to have SinglePapa's posts about the $1k TDAmeritrade bonus has been doing the fatwallet community a disservice.
I opened and funded a new account with them yesterday, and just made my five trades this AM. They automatically applied the "30 days free trades + $100 bonus" promo when I opened the account, which I hope doesn't gum up transitioning to the $1k bonus deal. I've already called and had them apply the $1k bonus promo code to my account, just waiting and fingers crossed that it will go through.
I figure this will return an effective APY of ~4.2% APY + whatever can be earned on the money market fund over the 9 month time horizon. If that averages to conservative estimate of 3% APY, the total return would be 7.2% APY.
So IMO, this is as good a deal in today's interest rate environment, as the SECU deal was during it's day.
The promo code is 517 but you have to have them make an exception for you. The promo was only good during the trading expo in nyc during feb 16 and 17 2008 but they have applied to my account and my family's account too. enjoy.

Does it have to be new account or can you be an existing client?
