sorry if there's a post about this, but I searched and searched but couldn't come up with advice

I have 22c remaining on this prepaid credit card I got from a rebate. Is there anything worthwhile I can do with the balance?

update: no need to be snarky... nor waste your time with a reply that isn't helpful, or even NEG me. just move on if u got nothing to add...

Use it as an ice scraper for the car.

Most stores will allow you to use it towards a purchase. Simply hand the card to the cashier and tell them it has only 22 cents on it. They should be able to just charge 22 cents to the card.

In the time that you spent creating this thread, you could have earned 22 cents.

Sell it on craigslist for 20 cents.

Breaking stride to pick up a penny, if it takes more than 6.15 seconds, pays less than the federal minimum wage.

I was thinking along those lines...

Giving the card away to some homeless person on the street won't do, as it displays my name on the card.

I just wanted to know what my options are since I know I can charge something over $1 easily, but not many places can charge anything under $1

BTW, I'm not looking to waste any fellow FWer's time. I think it's a legitimate issue that needs to be addressed. Don't forget, legislation was just passed in California. It requires gift card issuers to cash out cards under $5 since these guys rack up tons of money in unused funds, as well as greedily assess fees on balances left on such cards.

CA only requires specific merchant gift card to be cashed out. so if you got a VISA or AMEX or some such gift card there is no cash out provision. but if you want to try, mail it to me with SASE so I can mail you back the .22 if i can cash it

next time, buy a store GC like Target or Home Depot with it. you can easily use it towards your purchase at those stores even when your balance is less than your purchase.

Most of the online payments for my cable and phone allow you to use these....my phone requires at least a 1 dollar increment but if what is owed is say 22 cents, then you can use these...say bill is 50 bucks...pay with credit card one day for 49.78 and the next day pay your 22 cents...crisis prevented...

The collective cost of discussing the extraction of the 22c has exceeded, oh, probably $22 at this point.

next time, don't wait until it's down that low. When you're at the $5 mark, go inside the gas station and tell them you want $5 of gas and put it on the card.

I saw a penny on the ground the other day but didn't pick it up because I wasn't sure if was worth my time. Assume you make $X/hour and takes 3 seconds to pick up the penny. How high must X be to make it not worth ones time to pick it up? Extra credit for X when you see a nickel, dime, or quarter.

FWF lower highs and lower lows. Its a bear fourm for new topics theses days.
