First, in defense of this post.. I thought this to be the correct forum because some people may think they need to go a tax preparer and pay to have their taxes done to get a stimulus check. That said... Please don't shoot the messenger... and if this is in the wrong forum please move. thx

A few quotes..
"The Internal Revenue Service will open some 320 offices on Saturday, March 29, to help low-income people including some retirees and veterans get the checks they are eligible for under the economic stimulus act passed by Congress in January."
"A list of IRS offices and partner sites providing assistance is available on the IRS website, http://www.irs.gov., or by calling the IRS hotline, 1-800-906-9887. On March 29, people can call 1-866-234-2942 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. local time."
"IRS field officers will also visit nursing homes and similar locations to prepare returns."
"The IRS said that this week it is also mailing out packages to 20.5 million people receiving Social Security and veterans benefits with information on filing a return." NOTE: YES, my FIL received one of these in the mail a couple days ago. It included instructions and a 1040A form.
He is also eligible for the couples rate even tho his wife passed on last year. The instructions said something about as long as he didn't marry or divorce that year he was eligible for both of them.
The only income my FIL has is about $600/mo in Social Security benefits. We expect a check for him.
another note.. When they start sending these they will start with the lowest last 2 numbers of your ss# first. hmm... ours is 00. Does that mean we will be first or last? ![]()
