Manheim has simulcast auctions in real time. A dealer can look up the inventory and the Inspection Report, pull up the sale on his computer and bid live against everyone else. He can buy a car in Pennsylvania while sitting in his underwear drinking coffee in California. A good wholesale dealer can find pristine, off-lease vehicles for anyone, anywhere without leaving his home or office. It's done all the time....

Thanks a bunch!

Someone recently helped me to purchase a car via Mainheim. However, he refused to take me to the auction site. Now, I need someone with a Mainheim account to help me verify the auction price before I go ahead to pay that person.

Does anyone has a Manheim account willing to help? I will gladly pay $50 for your time and effort.

hi all. can anyone tell me if Manheim only auctions off newer cars? i'm looking for a Volvo from 1998-2000 here in the Bay Area, CA.

would anyone be willing to share access with me or do a vehicle search for me? I'd be happy to pay you for your time and effort as well. thanks!!!

From what I've seen Manheim only has 1-4 year old cars, usually off lease, dealer buy backs, etc.

qapla,

I'm not able to send you PM. I live in North County SD and need to connect with someone to take me to the auction. From this thread is appears you have a buddy that does this... If this is still the case please let me know. Thank you.

I bought this one from the county as abandoned for $1700. That's why you have to go buy yourself or go with a good friend who happens to be a dealer.

This talk of finding a dealer to get you a deal at a dealer-only auction is just stupid. If it's a great deal, why would the dealer not want to make the profit of the deal for himself?

Is there a dealer in Albuquerque, NM?

troutmd said:As far as a 'dealer buying for you at an auction', playing devil advocate here I will tell you why we will never do this unless its a very close personal friend who we feel money is really not an option. Lets say person A on FW contacts me, wants to buy this 30K BMW. I tell him, ok, 500, I'll do it. We buy it, and he doesnt pay me, cant get a loan, etc, etc, etc...we have heard ALL kinds of excuses to that effect, which is why we will not hardly buy anyone a vehicle for just a fee. We have told people, ok, give us 25K...then we will buy a car, but obviously, that makes people un-easy. Yet they dont see why I should be uneasy going the other way.

Exactly. People get nervous when it comes time to pay, dont want to give you cash upftont, and its not worth it to make $300-600 for the hassle when I can just flip the same car on eBay and make $3-6k selling to a stranger.

I'm actually quite surprised at the auction prices listed in this thread. I understand these are mostly low mileage cars and the prices are better than dealer or private party pricing, but still arent really "hot deals".

Many longtime readers know I get my cars at auction too, but generally older/higher mileage (not Manheim). So I only ferret out the HOTTEST DEALS. I usually pay 1/2- 1/3 the prices mentioned in this thread. For example, the 2003 Windstar would be a $1500 car instead of $8700, the 2005 BMW 530 would be a 12-14k car instead of a 25k car. Always clear title. But please dont PM me, because as mentioned above, its just too much hassle to buy for others for just a $3-600 profit. When I see cars with $3000-6000 profit potential, I just buy em and flip em on eBay. Lately all the Mercedes have been selling to Europe, presumably bc of the favorable exchange rate.

why not do an escrow account and charge 5% with a min of $1000.00 and max of 3,000.

I bought my last car from Manheim auction as well. I'm still happy I did that, however, counting the price, dealer fee ($500), transportation from Vegas to Atlanta ($900) and sales tax it didn't come up too cheap. In the states where you don't pay sales tax if you buy a car from a private party, it definitely makes sense to try that instead. In my case the problem was that there wasn't so many of these cars made and they're difficult to find overall.

May I ask what auctions you are buying cars at 33 - 50 cents on the dollar?

Same boat here, anyone from the Bay Area?

I'm in the bay area, but as I mentioned above, and as troutmd noted, its just not worthwhile to offer to do this for a $300-600 kickback.

You are dealing with someone too nervous to pay the full purchase price upfront, or try to get out of the transaction afterwards if they change their mind. I can just put the car on eBay myself and make $3-6k. so it doesnt make sense to take on this hassle. Escrow services dont help because the person will use that as an excuse to cancel the sale if they dont like the car. Not worth it for $300-600.

But if I come across a dealer willing to do this in the Bay Area, I'll let you guys know.

timothy86 said:I hate to tell you but the fact the BMW was selling the car auction means that it couldn't be certified.

Be careful of future problems.

Thats about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Tell me, which makes more sense? Paying $35k for a "Certified" BMW, or instead getting the car for $25k when it only had 19k miles and FULLY covered up to 50k through BMWs factory warranty, and then buying and extended through BMW for another 2k? I would take the latter. The whole "Certified" thing is a ripoff anyway

If by chance anyone may venture to a Manheim Dealer auction or have been to one recently, and may remember what 2007 or 2008 LTZ Suburbans were selling for would be greatly appreciated...mileage 8,000 to 26,000 miles 4x4....
