Mr Slacker,

Do they come with any price list as well? What price and how to begin the bidding?
How is below condition compare to average condition?
I'll be looking at Menhaim in PA. Thanks so much!!!

I'm looking for a quasi-local dealer (near Austin, TX) to do a pass through deal for a flat fee.
I need a reasonably tech savvy dealer - someone that can pass along auction inventory in advance via email/web.
Cash buyer.

Dont bother with auctions for a $4000 car! When you add dealer fees you might save a couple hundred bucks. The car might be ASIS and that leaves you a headache of fixing whatever is wrong with it. Go with a private party instead.

terrible advice, I get most of my cars under $4000 from auction that I could never get at private party.

Of course, Im not begging for some slimy dealer to PM me and take a cut of the sale either like this thread has turned into.

Hi Guys,

Thx 4 all comments but I was able to get what I wanted w/ my limited budget, so nothing is impossible and this Nissan Altima is in great shape and condition ONLY cosmetic things that need to be replaced and fixed. Awesome experience!!!

This is what I'm down to also. I just bought RAV4 with 100k - these things regularly turn 200-300k. Non-interference motor.
I've owned Corvettes, 400+ HP sports cars, 4wds with dual lockers - unless they're a hobby, they're just a drain on the wallet.

And in TX, I'll still beg or setup a relationship with a dealer to buy a $4k car for me under certain conditions. Even with a Lemon, I generally come out even on open market value.

Thank you. There's a lot to learn in this thread. The 'hook up' requests slow things down and don't help us newbies.

I apologize for 'slowing things down', myself, by making this post.

I would guess than you know about cars. An average Joe will not be able to distinguish the noise coming from the hood if its the alternator/belts or if its something inside the engine such as tappets/lifters or even timing belt. You have to realize that you could spend atleast a couple of days at the auction to find the right car and dealer taxes are higher than private party taxes. When you buy from a private party you can get the car checked at a local mechanic (no firestone/jiffy lube). If you make $15 an hour, you have lost about $240 if you loose 2 days of work. For a $4000 car, dealer taxes will be anywhere between $200 to $350 depending on what state you are in. Also the dealer will atleast take $250-300 as his fees. So if you can find a private party car for about $700-$1000 more than the auction it well worth it
