Any easy way to convert these to cash?

i can't find anywhere in the terms and conditions or FAQ at AMEX that indicates that you can deposit their gift cards (unlike their gift cheques which seem relatively easy to turn into cash).

do you have personal experience of depositing their gift cards - and how did you go about it?

Okay, I am slow today. How does one go about depositing gift cards?

Also, 5% off when paying with an AMEX OPEN card.

But as far as I can tell, shipping ($15.95!) kills the deal.

You can buy a money order with them and deposit the money order, but, although there may be, i don't know of any bank that will let you deposit them. I know Chase won't.

I'm not sure it would work with a credit card either, but it definatly does with a gift card. I went to Chase and asked if they would try to deposit it and they told me they wouldn't. So I went across the street to Randalls Supermarket and asked them and, although they were somewhat reluctant, they ran it through it worked with no problems. I bought $200 in money orders from my ATT/Cingular rebate gift cards and a Wells Fargo gift card. Then went back to Chase and deposited the money order.

By the way, none of the 6 cards I used were PIN-based cards.

If you want to actually give someone an AMEX Gift Card, then this is a nice code.

Otherwise, unless your state law requires that all gift cards can be liquidated, then I don't see why to bother with this. Maybe someone can explain.

I used OPs code to meet an opening credit card offer. (must spend $X to get Y). Didnt want to charge
gas/groceries (5% elsewhere). Didnt want to charge cable/internet/phone (reward checking accounts). I can refund
from AMEX, just losing $8 service charge on $500 card, or spend on H&B. Store giftcards are non-refundable and
tie me down to another piece of plastic.
