Hi, I am new to this forum but I am 18 and am very interested in my credit. I have a few credit cards, one of which is the AMEX Gold charge card. I got the card in November 2007. In January & February of this year I put balances of about $10,000 on the card at the end of each of the two billing cycles. I paid both months promptly but still got a calls stating my account was under financial review. I sent them my info and after a week, they lowered the limit on my card to 600. This makes the card pretty much worthless, I have tried calling in and seeing what can be done but no one is of any help. I was thinking I could maybe upgrade to the platinum and since it would be a new card I would get the no preset spending limit again. Or should I cancel and then reactivate it with in 90 days or just reapply after 90 days? Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I have an Optima Platinum card that has a limit of 3k and a Blue Cash with a limit of 2k.

Thanks

Read the AMEX FR thread

what did you charge to the card?

botulism samples from a lab in texas?

I read that thread and I wish I would have done it sooner so I could cancel then reactivate but I have all ready gone through FR and am wondering what options I have to get the no limit back... I bought like 60 iPhone plus just normal spending over those 2 months, FYI...

You couldn't even post a complete set of information, and then you vote good advice red because, why? Because I'm not a mind reader?

Cancel all your AMEX cards. That will teach them

So, $300 iphones? Didn't see that in Hot Deals...

How did I not give you all the information? The AMEX FR thread is mainly about getting out of FR, that would not apply to me because as i mentioned I went through FR already... Don't have to read minds, just read...

My bad about the negative review too, I didn't even realize I did that until just now... Changed it to positive, didn't mean to hurt your feelings big guy.

You posted how much you spent and what you spent it on but didn't mention what your actual income was vs. stated application income.

alert mods

Nor did you mention if your stated income is substantiated by your tax documents.Nor the original credit limit. Nor what you said or what they said when you call. Spending patterns way out of line with your income will draw all kinds of attention.

Report all the facts

Cut up your credit cards. You are 18 years old and are spending $20,000 on iPhones?

Hes an entrepreneur! The younger the better imo. (just be smart about it)

alert mods

Maybe the nsa/google/cia supercomputer flagged the purchase of 300 iphones as terrorism related.

lol!

Is it even possible to sell 300 Iphones WITH a profit these days?

IMO a bad investment, esp since you paid almost full retail price..

It is quite possible to sell 300 iPhones, even now on eBay you can make over $100 profit from each phone...
To liquidate 300 of them on online auction sites, per say, (if you have good feedback) should take about 5-6 weeks.
Back on Jan/Feb 08 they sold for at least $650, over $150 profit
So he probably made at least $7000, with $20K AMEX credit line usage (which is not an investment), it is a smart move.
Congrats omarbkhalid, for an 18 year old you're on the right track, just try to keep it under the radar, obviously credit issuers than IRS would be auditing you.

HELL YES you can still make a profit.

alert mods

Just don't forget to declare any profits to IRS next year - see the Bill & Hillary's tax returns on how to do it.

Cancel the cards, then reapply a while later. If your credit is good, nothing will prevent you from getting a new card, plus any promo rates/bonuses
