I am still getting 0% BT checks (with BT fees) from Citi despite not using the same card(s) you mentioned. Go figure.........

have you looked for the balance transfer button hidden amongst the drop down menus? for some reason, mine are only available that way now (and require an additional security confirmation before they'll show).

just a thought (although i'm aware that quite a few other cards (M&T/Chase) have not renewed their BT offers after the last "activate by" date, so you may be a victim of a similar Citi clampdown).

Yeah, I know the buttons, I even had to reset my security questions. After clicking the button, it just says "sorry, no balance transfers available" or something along those lines.

What do you mean with the activate by comment? Didn't quite understand. I know at least one of these accounts I had a new card sent to me and it took me quite awhile before I remembered to activate it.

I posted my latest experience here.

Did anyone reverse "The credit privileges on your existing account(s) are currently restricted" and recieve a new line?

After my AA in beginning of 2008, I was approved for Citi Biz American Airlines here in June and closed later that year. Recently, I applied for new Biz card and I got the message above. Although, I don't have any exsisting accounts with Citi.

45 mins on the line b/w New Acct/CSR/Cred.Management did not produce results....it is more than a year since AA. According to new accounts: I am on the sh!t list b/c accounts were internally closed.... yet I was approved for another Citi since AA took place... makes no sense

Well citi just closed all my CC accounts (total 2) 30 minutes ago. I used one of them 30 minutes ago at a dinner and once I got home and tried to pay the cable bill the card was denied. I called right away and after being put on hold for 20 minutes and verifyied 4 latest transactions I was told to wait for a letter in the mail. There is no notes on the accounts to explain why they were closed. This really stinks because one of the closed card has over 100k limit and the other one had been with me since 1997. That leaves me with a lonely BOA visa card. I wonder since the accounts have been only closed for an hr if I should go ahead tonight and apply for a new citi card? I have no balance transfer outstanding. Edited. now I believe the closing of the accounts were due to purchasing of 5K GC.

Since it's a rewards card then this would definitely be my guess.

My guess too but You only earn rewards on net transactions. They don't have any credit risk here.

95k charge? nice

Rewards card or not, 95K charge and 95K refund is going to look awfully weird to them. I am sure this is why they are freaking.

If I were them I would be thinking that their credit risk is 95K, if not double that. What if the refund gets reversed somehow? What if it indicates you're a money launderer for terrorists and homeland security or secret service is going to come and take that 95K? What if you're about to draw another 95K, move to Poland, and then the first 95K gets reversed? These are the questions I imagine Citi was asking themselves...

Probably bought 1st class airline tickets with the card. No hassle refund and exchange policy

I've been getting a lot of these random closing between Chase and Citi. Citi closed 2 of my accounts for inactivity while lowering the limit on the others. I still have 8 cards with them and have been reluctant to use any of the cards. I have a feeling that any usage of any CC beside my usual card will trigger a review. I know citi likes to pull those monthly credit report (at least when when I using their 0%) offers.

You got a point here. I wonder if it was the computer that shut down the accounts or some analysts were reviewing it. Also can anyone pm a phone number I can call?

Your "feeling" is wrong. Citi will close your card(s) for inactivity rather than trigger a review on using them. A review is most frequently triggered when you ask for a credit line increase or something similar involving your credit line. If you want to avoid closer of your cards then use them to buy something small every 3 months.

Computer software only triggers a "Financial Review" for "High Risk" behavior but it's a credit ninja who decides to close your card or reduce the limit based on you overall financial situation.

Ok, its been a few months and things have changed. About two months ago I applied and was approved for the ADA Citi card with the sweet 0%/$0 fee 12 month balance transfer. I was approved for 15k and put 10k into my checking account. I also switched an old Citi Student Card that had been inactive for years to a Forward Card so I could make use of the 5X points on restaurants/Amazon. I just checked today and now my Citi AT&T Universal card has balance transfers available. 12 months 0% with an uncapped 3% fee.

At the same time I applied for the ADA Citi card I also applied for the BOA card with the 0%/$0 fee 12 month balance transfer card. Also approved for 15k and put 10k into my checking. So my credit scores have dropped slightly with the two inquiries and 20k balance (0 balance before).

Strange, with my recent activity if anything I would have expected adverse action from Citi, but, apparently they like it because they are now offering balance transfers that weren't available before. I dunno... maybe they just like the recent activity on the Forward card. Previously I didn't use any of my Citi Cards for a long time since I still have a Chase Rewards Plus card with 5% at gas/groceries, but for the past couple months I've used the Forward for all my eating out.
