From OP (this was an archived topic):

As the "quote" in the OP is from myself (David Scubadiver), I thought I'd also point out that while Citibank allows you to enroll in autopay (albeit by form), its not as good as Chase, because it does not "adjust" to payments received. Therefore, if you are using "billpay" to pay a minimum amount and want to use the citi site as "backup", it won't work. You'll always pay twice unless your billpay fails or unless you call Citi every month and tell them not to withdraw the minimum payment. This is why I wrote that Chase was the only bank I've seen that lets you automatically pay the minimum while using an external bill-pay service.

----------
Advanta - No autopay option

American Express - Call CSR for a form.

Bank Atlantic - Call CSR to set up over the phone.

Bank Of America - After logging in go to Bill Pay -> automatic payments. Automatic payments will register as a "scheduled payment" on your next statement the day after the e-bill is created.

Chase - Go to "Payments and Transfers" tab, then select "Automatic Payments". Payment takes place on due date. Responds to payment from third party (ie. if you set it up for minimum payments and then pay at least the minimum amount from another source, it will cancel the monthly payment)

Citi - (old way) Go through "Contact Us" and send a message requesting an "AutoPay enrollment form." They'll send you a form and you select Minimum Payment, Statement Balance, or a set amount. Return with a voided check. They claim it 4-6 weeks to process.
chyvan provided this way:
(new easier way) login to citicards.com and you'll see the url https://www.accountonline.com/AccountSummary
Change the "AccountSummary" to "APEnroll". Then enroll online.

Citi Business - No autopay option

Discover - go to http://www.discovercard.com/directpayplan and log in. The CSR did not know why the site was not linked to the main site.

FIA Card Services (formerly MBNA) - Call CSR for a form.

Juniper - Can be set up online fully (even before first bill). Can't remember the exact process but it was not hard.

National City - Call CSR and set up over the phone (done before first statement).

PNC Bank: download PDF form from the site Card Member Services --> Signup For Automatic Payments (PDF) (thanks fotomaniak)

US Bank - Online form Link then fax in the form to the number.

USAA - From the "My Accounts" tab, select "Forms", then "Banking", then "Credit Cards". Print the recurring payments pdf. You can select Minimum Payment, Statement Balance, or Designated Amount. No voided check needed, but takes 30 days to process. Payment takes place on due date.

Wells Fargo - Log into your account and punch the 'account services' tab, then under transfers, the 'set up recurring payment link'.

Advanta now has autopay option.

How much does AutoPay cost?
AutoPay is a free service available to qualified Advanta Cardholders.

When will AutoPay start?
Once you are enrolled in AutoPay, your automatic payments will begin in 4-6 weeks. Until then, please continue to make your monthly payment as usual by mailing a check or paying online at www.advanta.com.

Once the service begins, your first scheduled payment date will be indicated on your statement.

Do I need a special account to register for AutoPay?
No, but AutoPay payments can only be processed from a valid personal or business checking account. Unfortunately, we can't accept payments from savings or money market accounts.

How do I change my payment or bank preferences?
Simply log into your AutoPay Program Details page under Manage Your Account. Remember, your request to change bank information and payment preferences should be received at least 3 calendar days prior to the payment due date for changes to be reflected in that month's automatic payment.

Can I send additional payments?
Yes. Any additional payments you send will be credited to your account along with your AutoPay payment.

If I choose the minimum payment amount or total balance payment option, how will I know what my payment will be?
Your statement will reflect the minimum payment and total statement balance, however the amount that will be paid depends on the payment selection you requested.

What if my bank account does not have enough money in it to cover my AutoPay payment?
If your bank account has insufficient funds for the payment, we'll automatically submit the payment a second time and a returned payment fee might be charged, as stated in your Cardholder Agreement.

What if my BusinessCard billing statement has a zero balance?
There will be no AutoPay deduction that month.

What about disputed charges?
If you need to change your scheduled payment amount listed on your billing statement due to a disputed charge, be sure to do so at least 3 calendar days prior to the payment due date for changes to be reflected in that month's automatic payment.

How do I cancel AutoPay?
Simply log into your AutoPay Program Details page under Manage Your Account and click "Terminate AutoPay Enrollment" at the bottom of the screen. Be sure to do so at least 3 calendar days prior to the payment due date to avoid having your payment automatically deducted that month.

Coming in to answer my own question. Since the relaunch of the Discover website, the auto bill pay account configurator has been moved to the "Direct Pay Plan"

From CSR:

The DirectPay feature makes your Discover Card payment on time every month, automatically for free. You decide how much to pay and when to pay.

To set up DirectPay, please go to:

Direct Pay Plan Enrollment Center

Then log in and follow the steps below:

1. If you have not used the Make A Payment option before, you will need to enter your bank information from the bottom of your check. Otherwise, you can use the same bank information or information for a different bank account.

2. Select a payment option. You may choose from the following:
- Minimum Payment Due
- Minimum Payment Due + a Fixed Amount
- Fixed Amount
- Full Statement Balance
DirectPay will never withdraw more than your previous statement balance or less than your minimum payment regardless of the payment option you specify.

3. Select your withdrawal date. DirectPay will automatically withdraw the amount specified by your payment option every month on this date.

4. Verify your bank and DirectPay selections.

5. Print the confirmation page for your records.

I appreciate your business and the opportunity to be of service. Thank you for choosing to use Discover Card.

Sincerely,

Mistee

citicards APEnroll trick doesnt work

A little more information would be useful.

Such as details of "what" didn't work. Submitting the form returns an error, it accepted the request but didn't start autopay, etc...

When you submit the paper form, it is not active until a notice appears on your statement. This most likely is "not" the next statement after you submit the request.

I don't what Kuroda is basing his statement on.

I had a new Citibank card that didn't have AutoPay enabled. I just used the APEnroll link. The Change AutoPay Preferences link that shows up in your Account Summary on a particular card, showed up for this card immediately with the correct settings.

I haven't received a confirmation email yet, and certainly will not rely on it until it shows up in my statement and successfully pulls money one time.

I further follow up on using the Citibank APEnroll link

I received a confirmation email from Citibank last night.

Sure looks like it works to me.

you are statistically a much lower risk customer by using auto-pay. don't ask me i'm not a math dude but i've had about 3 pretty high up credit analysts explain.

apparently its not just paper savings, but people that are on top of their isht using E-pay,auto-pay, paper statements are just categorized into a group where risk is lower. Along with some Tree savings. So sign up for these services before u ask for 0.9 or 1.9% for life BT.

Lower risk is also lower profit. Don't you think the bank WANTS you to screw up?

Just great...I tried this, got a confirmation email from CitiCards saying, "You were successfully enrolled in AutoPay on April 18, 2008. Payments scheduled with this service will be
electronically transferred from the Savings account you specified ending in xxxx," and then it didn't debit my payment.

I even sent an online message to CitiCards CS and specifically asked if my payment due in early May would be automatically debited. I got a reply saying, "Our records indicate that your account was successfully enrolled in AutoPay and next payment is set to debited from your checking account."

Well, it wasn't, and I didn't notice [and the whole point of AutoPay is that I shouldn't have to be checking], so now I have a huge late fee and finance charges. WTF. I'm so sick of Citicards' incompetent outsourced CS. Actually, the ironic thing is that Citi actually called me to notify me about the non-payment. I replied, "But I set up AutoPay on that account." The CSR didn't know what happened and couldn't help me. I just sent a reply to the email I got confirming my next payment was supposed to be debited.

To add insult to injury, I just applied for a new CitiBusiness card [for 0% BT], and now I'll probably get rejected [my app was deferred, which is typical, and I always get approved].

I got lame responses to my email so I called, and they refunded the late fees and finance charges. She explained that the AutoPay enrollment email meant that your payment for your next statement would be automatically debited. I pointed out that I specifically emailed CitiCards to clarify this. I suppose one could some twisted reasoning to argue that's what was meant by the email from CitiCards saying, "Our records indicate that your account was successfully enrolled in AutoPay and next payment is set to debited from your checking account," but I specifically asked if my payment due in early May was going to be debited, which was my next payment. If the answer was no, obviously they should have said no rather than use vague boilerplate.

In the archived thread, it was stated that Citibank autpay will not be active no matter what a CSR tells you until you see the following message on your paper or online statement:

"Your next Autopay automated payment of $XXX.XX will be deducted from your designated bank account on MM/DD/YYYY."

Citibank's FAQ even reinterates this but in not such precise terms:

"When will AutoPay start?
Upon processing and approval, automatic payments will begin in 4-6 weeks. Until then, please continue to mail your monthly payment as usual. When service begins, your first scheduled payment will be indicated on your statement."

Advanta cardholders can easily see the menu item on the left of their Account Overview and other pages. They'll have to be logged in to access it.

Bill Payment Services
Pay Your Advanta Bill
BillPay for Other Bills
AutoPay

Sorry, but I had figured my post above was sufficient and that other "Advantists" would have confirmed, so never checked back on this thread until now.

Interesting note, SuperG03: "Advanta - Email them to get the Autopay option added to the online interface, then sign up." I remember about 6 months ago discussing autopay with an Advanta CS, and he said they just added it, and then I noticed it. Didn't realize he must have activated the menu option.

With Chase, this is absolutely correct. If the payment is due on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, you'll see your payment posted on time if you happen to log on and check their webpage.

For National City you can do it online, no need to talk to a CSR. Log on to Card Services Online, then on the left go to "Payment Services" -> "Set Up Recurring Payments". I have 2 cards setup and it works fine.
