Eiso said:Now it said 40,000 points?!?! That deal is a ripoff: 5000 points for 1st purchase 5000 points after you spend $20,000 20,000 points after you spend $50,000 10,000 after you pay the $125 membership fee So, you get $300 for spending $50,000, then you lose $25 when you pay your membership fee. |

That deal is a ripoff:
5000 points for 1st purchase 5000 points after you spend $20,000 20,000 points after you spend $50,000 10,000 after you pay the $125 membership fee
So, you get $300 for spending $50,000, then you lose $25 when you pay your membership fee.In case you glossed over this, the first 3 items you list yield 100,000 points, not 30,000. |

Explain your math, please. It's not hard to see how RJG got 100k points if first purchase is $20k+... 5000 for first purchase + some points for money spent on first purchase + 5000 after spending $20k + 20k points for spending $50k + 50k points for spending $50k = 80k + some points for money spent on first purchase |

Sorry. It's 80,000. But still, my point was that I suspected you were overlooking the fact that you get regular points for spending, not just the bonus. 5000 bonus points for 1st purchase 5000 bonus points for spending $20k 20,000 regular spending points for that same $20k 20,000 bonus after spending $30k more to reach the $50k threshold 30,000 regular spending points for that same $30k ============== 80,000 points Sorry for the confusion. |

Yes you get regular points, but most cards give you regular points. The point of the bonus is that you get something above and beyond the regular points after your first purchase (or after you hit a reachable dollar amount). The reason I said that this new deal is a ripoff is because you get $200 less than the old deal for spending the exact same amount. |

vovito said:I called to cancele, and they didn't offer me any cash to keep the account open. Neither $30 nor $40. They only bonus they offered is 1,000 points plus another 10,000 if I do renew the account. Does anybody else have no luck neither? Clearly it is not worth to pay $125 for 10,000 points. same. Me and wife opened the card at the same time last year. When wife called in to cancel they offered her $30 retention bonus. When I called in they offered nothing and said they would close the card immediately. |

I just got a pre approved offer letter for the American Express Gold Rewards card...25,000 points after $500 in purchases. It had an RSVP code, so it sounds like it's back although maybe targeted this time. |

I got something similar. 50K points for $2K in purchases by end of Feb '09. I took it. I wonder why they have so many different ones. -Mike |

My wife received it for 50,000 points after $500 in purchases by Jan '2009. Hey are these RSVP codes unique codes or can they be used by anyone to get this deal? |
