Can ANYONE please help me? Give me advice? I am begging for help!
I have been up all night a wreck searching google yahoo ect...
Long story short, my brother who lives with my mom(grown boy almost 30) has been in and out of jails rehabs ect I stay clear away from him as I have been through more than you can imagine
Had him locked up ect....(I am married with kids and family)
I will explain this the best I can,
My brother finally got locked up from stealing from someone else we come from a very good family do not know how he turned out the way he did
Yesterday my mother called me up and told me to pick up my A @T I have sprint I tell her to open it she tells me I have an 1100 phine bill my first instinct was WTF then she read the number it was my brothers cell phone number all this time he had a phone under my name I went ballisitc and called the phone company
How did he get my social security number?told me that there were 7YES 7different phones 7different accounts under my name with 6 different phone numbers!
How can this happen?
They asked me the names and mentions one was a relative at the speicifed address Thats all someone has to do is have you ss number they can do whatever they want with no id he has been doing this since January and 1,1100 is the past de amoount

I asked her to read the names OMG THAT WAS EVEN WORSE these were even worse they were certainly not white collar names or even blue collar names or even names of anyone that would have a job! The worst part is the phone comany said I am resposible for the whole bill becasue it is a domestic dispute noe and I have to go file criminal chargesand go ofter him personally, HA yea right what a joke,go after a drug addict sitting in jail
without a pot to piss in and a window to throw it out of!

Worse thing is he has my ss number and I have no clue how he even got it int he first place

I asked the phone company how they let this happen why wasnt it a red flag a new account then a month later 7 different names 7 different phones under 7 different Crazy names at that,I told them I have had Sprint for 15 years with no porblems at all and they said it was becasue my credit was good. So now I am a responsible family member with good credit and I am responisble for the whole bill?

Even if I press charges and fax them the paperwork I am still responsible for the bill sp they said of corse all my stuff is being shit down becasue shabeeze laquan and all the others I do not know what they have info on or what he did or what drug addicts do but I contacted all credit agencys and let them know I am even closing my bank account!

I triely need to know if anyone knows anything about this or what on gods green eart can possibly be done

Bagels are good!

HA bagels are good WHAT A JOKE! After having to pay for Kizzy, and Shabazz's phones I dont think I can afford raisins at this point!

alert mods

You are not responsible for the accounts if you didn't authorize them.

alert mods

RIGHT! Thats what I was thinking! HOWEVER the fraud department of at and t stated that BECAUSE it was a family member it becomes a DOMESTIC dispute that I have to go after him for the money.

If I told you I was on the phone hanging up on transfered fraud reps for 3 hours I would be lying to you I was on the phone for at least 5 hours!

THEY ALL said the same thing you have NO IDEA how DESPERATE I am for some kind of answer some kind of outlet SOMETHING I CAN NOT TO THIS MINUTE BELIEVE THAT ANYONE CAN JUST SIGN UP FOR A CELL PHONE ACCOUNT WITH YOUR SOICAL SECURITY NUMBER just like that I am amazed at the system and how they can out thier head on the pillow by family members who work and pay taxes every day to take the repricussions and falls of deadbeat FAMILY MEMBERS! AMAZING

OMG DEATH BY CAPS!

alert mods

Have you filed a police complaint?

alert mods

I just wanted to TELL YOU that I only read about THREE WORDS of your post, then gave up after seeing A WHOLE LOT OF CAPITALIZATION. You know where that would go over much better? IN AN AOL CHATROOM.

alert mods

WOW hmmm, sorry maybe you should stick to washing dishes or since you like chat rooms so much perhaps you should slide over there on your bannana and see if you can get a better job

alert mods

Flip- You are not going to make many friends here posting in a panic in all caps and then insulting those that you are asking for help.
Ok 1. take a deep breath and count to ten nothing you are going to do this minute is going to fix this it is a few weeks at least of stuff
2. you have cancelled the accounts and formally claimed identity theft-good
3. press charges with the police agaist your brother for identity theft- if unwilling to do this you need to pay the cost which seems to be several K in cell charges
4. put holds on three credit reporting agencies
5. pull your credit reports you wifes credit reports and if you have social security numbers for kids kids credit reports- suggest mom should pull hers too
6. protest agaist anything that is wrong in any of the reports
7. realize that supper easy to know family ss#'s I know both my sisters
8. you must file claim agaist brother and the phone company
9. you need to speak to a lawyer
10 but mainly right now you need to calm down and think rationally and long term

alert mods

It seems pretty bad now, but you can clear this up. I would say DON'T pay the 1100. File a police report, dispute it with the phone company, then dispute it with the credit agencies. There are a bunch of threads here about disputing bad items on your credit report. I think one might be in the FAQ or in the Myth's section. Take a look there for more ideas.

1. Of course they told you that; they get paid to collect, they don't care who they collect from.

2. Throw a few of these in -> . . . . . . .. .

You can treat this as an identity theft situation. There are many information available online related to this topic. To begin with, try this web site, http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idtheft/consumers/defend.html. It has some good advice.

I would not pay AT&T for sure. All they want is money and leave their mess to you.

Good luck.

Sounds like a good Jerry Springer episode. Give them a call.

alert mods

1. Calm down.

2. Start putting things in writing.

3. Call AT&T and ask to speak with a manager. Begin by telling him that you will be making notes of the conversation and will send it to AT&T for their records. Tell them that your identity has been stolen and someone opened up seven accounts at AT&T fraudulently under your name.

Ask how the hell they would allow someone to open that many accounts under a single name. When that happens, don't they have alarm bells that go off?

Also mention that a CSR told you that you are liable for the bill even though you never authorized it. Say that you are confirming that that is NOT the case, and that AT&T is liable for collecting it from whomever stole your ID.

The manager is now on the spot. If he agrees with you, you will note that and send it to AT&T in writing. If he disputes it, you will have in writing that AT&T is fraudulently trying to collect from you.

If you haven't already done so within the past year, you can get free credit reports from annualcreditreport.com. You can request your reports online, by phone, or by mail.

Phone companies are all run by dicks. Something vaguely similar happened to me in college, with a land line -- over Thanksgiving and Christmas break, someone went into my dorm room (cleaning staff, maybe; I'll never know) & rang up $1100 dollars on my phone. I didn't get the bill for any of the charges until after Christmas.

The charges were all log-distance overseas charges. AT&T was very polite and helpful when I called them; said the calls didn't match my usual pattern and would be reversed. The problem is billing is through Verizon, and they wanted their money no matter what. Didn't care that the charges were illegitimate, or that AT&T had agreed to take them off, or that I was a poor kid in college who didn't have $100 to my name let alone $1100.

It took a few months for the credit from AT&T to show up, with Verizon harassing me continuously. I think they may have even shut off the phone once or twice.

After that I always had the phone service disconnected whenever I was out of the room for more than a weekend.

And to this day I will not deal with Verizon under any circumstance. Those rat bastards get no more of my money. I think back then they were called Bell Atlantic but it's still the same bunch.

They screwed my sister once, too, but that's another story.
