I just received a letter after I applied for the blue for students card from American Express. The letter said that I need to submit a 4506 to the IRS and have my tax return sent to them before they could continue my application. Not only that they also want a letter from my C.P.A./Lawyer/Broker verifying my income and other personal information. For the record I had a financial review a while back and canceled all my cards. I've had every card from blue cash to the Platinum charge card for over 4 years, never late, always paid in full. Has anyone ever gone through with their requests? I know the 4506 cost $39 and a trip to your C.P.A. isn't cheap. I think this a bit ridiculous for a student credit card. The only reason I am actually considering go through with it is because I want to build my way back up and get my platinum card back.

So of course they're wanting alot of verification, to root out what you seem to not want them to know.

Which is why I've said in the AMEX FR thread that if you dont intend to go through with a FR, dont sign up with AMEX in the first place. To do business with them, then circumvent the system when flagged for a FR, is just begging for additional scrutiny in the future.

Don't pay for a 4506. Call them and ask where to fax the 4506-T. I bet they will treat it just like a financial review, and submit your completed 4506-T on their dime. I agree with Glitch99. You made this mess when you didn't go along with the FR. Try just faxing them the 4506-T and see if that un-jams your situation without having to get the letter, etc. I bet it will.
