"I am mad as hell and not going to take it anymore!"

First the past few days I had to call on several credit cards for "fradulent use" of my cards. I don't know what is going on but this is nuts. If you ise a card its fraud?
I logged into citibank card and there was a fraud alert. I call and start playing 20 questions with a rep where she is confirming every single charge on my card. I tell her there are no issues and it wont end. I then realize I am speaking possibly to an overseas cust service. I ask for a supervisor. I ask her name and find out I am calling Citibank in the Phillipines. I am pissed. If we are dealing with a fraud alert, why would I want to talk to somebody in the Phillipines. Every time I deal with all these reps they tell me how valuable I am as a customer. That is bull. I do charge huge volumes but I am in the same boat as the guy who calls about a $5.00 charge at the dollar store.

Are others pissed like me, or am I alone. I know some times the reps use false names etc. I want to make a big stink about this to Citi.

What? Offshore customer service? When did this happen?

alert mods

Assuming they're legitimate Citi employees and speak English, does it really matter where they're physically located?

alert mods

the term you are looking for is called 'outsourced"

YES, YES IT DOES! do they have the same privacy policys/consumer protection laws there? probably not? trust me i worked for chase for 5 years it would have been easy to get info out of my place of buisness in the us, so i shudder to think about how it is in a 3rd world country over.

So I don't know what the laws in the Philippines are, but if you could easily get info out in the U.S., it doesn't seem to matter that they're in a different country, governed by the same corporation. Furthermore, is the Philippines considered a 3rd world country?

try calling during normal business hour instead of at night.
also, you may try calling "collect-call number" on the back of your card.

huh? You realized that after 20 questions? hmm

To answer your question Rob.
Most CSRs I've spoke to are outsourced. It doesn't make them any bit less able to help you.
Personally, I've only had maybe 1 or 2 times where I had to hang up and call again because their accent was too heavy. That's not too bad. Besides, I would much rather have hard working outsourced CSRs than overpayed lazy stupid American ones. Think about it, there ARE alot of dumb people in this country.

To answer Porqin's question.
Philippines is a 2nd world country.

Chill out killah!

I don't understand what the OP is angry about: what's the connection between the fraud charges and the Filipino CSR? He makes it sound as if the CSR was just doing his/her job, albeit at excessive length.

2nd world countries were the members of the old soviet bloc. The Philippines would properly be a 3rd world country. The distinction had nothing to do with economics, and is obsolete now, though people are trying to make it an economic distinction.

Thanks, here is a pretty map.

Almost all offshore customer service locations have crazy security in place. The only connectivity allowed is through the business network, all USB ports and optical drives are disabled, cell phones are not allowed on the floor, etc.

FWIW, I worked for a credit card processor that ran call centers for several financial institutions, some in 'third world countries'. These off-shore call centers are supposed to have the same security as US call centers, and are supposed to undergo audits, including SAS70s. Government regulations require this to be done.

The language difference is frustrating though. I spoke with a few Citi reps in India, and while they do speak English, there still is a language barrier.

Isnt the Phillipines a Muslim country I would think the penalties for theft might be more severe.... chop chop

Does the dollar store take cc's now.... about time

Try speaking with some BellSouth rep in Alabama and then you will realize what a language barrier really is.

I'm curious, what kind of card do you have?

I've used AMEX, as well as Citi AMEX Platinum and never had any outsourced csrs. Maybe its just for the free, no annual fee cards?

i know that was not the case at chase just over 5 months ago when i quit, usb ports were fully active, i had to use them on a regular basis with a flash drive, so yeah... and cell phones are not "supposed" to be used on the call floor but 80% of the people working there did not follow that rule and management could give 2 shits... and the cd rom was enabled as i used it to listen to music every day.... and my computer also had full internet access - a few minor things.
