Hello folks,
I have small computer Business in Ozark, Mo. I want to know how one is supposed to handle sales tax for the buy and sale of hardware. For Example, if I purchase an Item and pay sales tax for it at the time of purchase and turn around and sale it to the customer for the exact same price, Do I just pass that cost and tax exactly as I paid for it? If I sale it for more, I re-adjust for the higher price?

Also, there is a deal here, Wal-Mart clearance of 50" 720p Vizio plasmas for $995. I have been using these for HTPC's I have been building for people. I would like to purchase 8 of them for later resale, How would I handle sales tax on that?

I have been told that I can fill out some form with Wal-Mart and not have to pay it at the time of purchase, If that is the case, How do I do that and keep thing legit?

Any help greatly appreciated.

**Edit** I found out at-least part of an answer to one of my questions, I can purchase from Business without paying sales tax by presenting my Tax-ID number and filing a form 49 with the retailer. I then have to charge sales tax when I re-sale the item.

You have to pay tax and collect tax from your customer to break even.

Your accountant will give you a sales tax exemption form to fill out provided that your business is listed as selling those specific items.

Somehow considering you dont know how to spell business correctly, you likely need an accountant if you dont already have one.

Business is a little more difficult, what is your excuse for misspelling don’t?

I fail to see how my spelling abilities have anything to do with my accounting abilities.

It really depends on the state you are in. Really, only someone in Missouri who has experience with business taxes can help you. If you are near a college area, you may take a course or 2 in business management, this can be done fairly in-expensive and will teach you allot. Another thing you can do is call an accountant, worse he or she can do is tell you that you need to pay him or her before they will answer your questions.

I think you meant to say form 149.

Sales tax laws are very state/local specific. I am sure that the same agency that provided you with a Missouri sales tax ID can answer all your questions. Look for them online or go to a local office -- you'll get much better information from the MO revenue agency than from anonymous Internet forum posts.
