Hello,

I am considering opening up a Schwab Investor Checking account and have some questions for those who are already account holders.

1) When funding the account, is direct deposit available to the checking, or does one have to fund the brokerage account via direct deposit and transfer to the checking? If a transfer is necessary, how long does it take and is it easy to do online?

2) Can you transfer to/from external accounts online?

3) Do you keep anything in the brokerage account, or simply transfer immediately to checking?

Thanks!

I know a few things about it. But first: why would one be "considering opening up a Schwab Investor Checking account"?

1. Yes you can set up direct deposit through your company. It isn't a separate checking account from your brokerage account, your checks will be funded directly from cash or margin in your brokerage account.
2. Yes, you can link to other external checking accounts you have as long as you have the routing number and account number. It can be done over the phone. Schwab has excellent customer service.
3. You can park your money there but I wouldn't recommend doing so for long periods as they yield very low interest.

My point was: why would you open that account without a bonus?

This act is an equivalent to instant $100, $500 or even $1,000 loss - as they only pay bonuses to "new" households.

confused about the bonus talk. are there other accounts that offer bonuses in these amounts?

More details can be found here, including people who have done some of what you're asking....
