Someone has noted that we have several threads regarding the state of the economy. Would you like to have a single thread for that discussion, or would you rather take them one at a time as they come in?
I'd like your input on this. Please reply.

I think the subject of the economy is too big to be a single topic. If FW allowed for multiple threads within a topic that would be another story, but as it is there would be too much confusion in one consolidated topic.
You can try but you will fail! Resistance is futile!

I mean, how many "Are we in a recession? Are we in a depression? When will the recession end?" topics do we really need to take advantage of finance opportunities and deals?
I vote for consolidation of the general "the economy" topics, but allowing specific "economic" topics (such as the latest economic indicators, etc.). There are enough threads out there to discuss the current recession/depression/whatever, but it can be useful to discuss the latest stats.
I agree --- we got the stock market into one --- so why not make this thread the economy thread

Then you'll be able to set up a view to show "finance deals" only, with everything else filtered out.

We can't, I think there is a quota on how many stupid statements there can be in one thread, this would definitely blow it out.
I'm getting mixed messages here.
First, I want to point out that this is not a vote; it's a discussion. Having said that, I see 18 green, which (I assume) means that many people want a consolidated thread. The comments, on the other hand, indicate concerns with that approach.

Hmm. Categorization of Finance like HD? That's something worth discussing. Is that something that people here want to see? A view where you can filter/view the categories as desired? That sounds to me like it might possibly be a good option. Please let me know what you think.

Yes.

Yes.
It would be interesting to see but how many categories would there be? I believe there are a lot more cross categorization in finance then there are in hot deals. My vote (even though we aren't voting
) would be for something like deals/questions/overall comments
Back on topic I don't see the problem with multiple economy threads if the topic isn't interesting it dies pretty fast while in a consolidated thread discussion is very limited.
I think that there should be only one thread on the general economy, for example, whether we are headed for a recession. But other topics related to the economy such as inflation, the food stamp program, etc. should be able to be separate.
Thanks for asking for input. ![]()
one at a time as they come in, because i read FW Finance with an RSS reader, i don't use my web browser to go to the main page of the forum and refresh every few hours/day.
I say leave them as they come in. I may just want to read the OP, not all of the comments. if we have just one thread, then I have to go through all the comments to get the new articles or news.
I think it would be silly to consolidate them. The threads that have value will survive and those that are irrelevant will die off. Easier to let people choose what threads to participate in rather than force them to participate in just 1

I was thinking of two major top-level categories (not a big fan of either of those category names), topics could be assigned to as many or as few subcategories as necessary. Both subcategory lists are in the Quick Summary.
Too broad to consolidate.

-fixed!
both. have a large mega-thread for general conversation on the "macro" economy, but also allow for the occasional new thread for more focused topical "micro" economic discussions as they come up. i'm generally against strict policing.
