Chase has a targeted promotion of 3% Cash Back on discount stores, gas stations and grocery stores, effective through August 31. This is targeted and not all debit cards are eligible. Sign up here. Maximum of $200 Cash Back!

Participating discount stores include Wal-Mart®, Target®, Kmart®, Big Lots®, Family Dollar®, Dollar Tree®, Stein Mart® and more.

Qualifying merchants sell a general line of merchandise and offer it at a discounted rate. The merchandise may include apparel, housewares, home furnishings, personal care products and electronics. These merchants typically operate a garden shop, have a primary checkout location at the front of the store, and promote and advertise low prices on an ongoing basis.

Here is the fine print ...

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
*Qualifying purchases include all debit card purchases made without using a PIN. Such “non-PIN” purchases include purchases you sign for, Internet purchases, phone or mail-order purchases, small dollar purchases that do not require a signature, and bill payments (where billers process the transaction as a credit card). Cash advances and cash transactions do not qualify. If asked “Debit or Credit,” always select “CREDIT” and sign for the purchase. The money for your purchases is always deducted from your checking account when you use your debit card, even if you select “Credit.” Please allow five business days for the purchase to post to your account.

The 3% Cash Back offer (maximum of $200 Cash Back) applies only to qualifying purchases made July 1 – August 31, 2008, with the enrolled Chase Check Card. The reward is the same, no matter what discount store you shop at. The following three merchant categories that are valid for this Cash Back promotion include: grocery stores, gas stations and discount stores. Merchants classified under the discount store category sell a general line of merchandise and offer it at a discounted rate. The merchandise may include apparel, housewares, home furnishings, personal care products and electronics. These merchants typically operate a garden shop, have a primary checkout location at the front of the store, and promote and advertise low prices on an ongoing basis.

ATM transactions, PIN-based purchases, cash withdrawals, and balance transfers do not qualify toward this promotion. Your 3% cash-back reward will be added to your Chase checking account by 10/10/08. This offer is by invitation only and is non-transferable. The enrolled debit card must be linked to an open checking account in good standing at the time the cash reward is fulfilled.

I like the fact that there's a link for this. I'm probably going to try it once I get home and find the check card. If my card qualifies, most of the purchases for this check card will be for WalMart because I use their gift cards at sam's club instead. Thank you for posting this!

At home (7pm): Special Invitation Only. The card number entered is not eligible for this offer. darn...oh well. I wonder what allows people to receive these offers...sigh.

Yup, seems targeted, not at me ....

I'm the OP who was targeted for the offer. I've never used my check card for purchases except for the 10% promotion a couple of months ago. I charged slightly over $750 to get the maximum Cash Back and then stopped using it. I guess that they are trying to entice me to use the card some more.

No dice for me either. I was able to sign up for the $75/750 offer a few months ago though.

I just received this offer. Now I have to figure out where I'm going to get $6666.66 in a month and a half so that I can spend it and get the full $200. I do all my grocery shopping and buy most of my gas at Meijer, which is classified as Grocery on my Chase Freedom. I'll probably buy a bunch of gift cards to carry me through the next six months worth of groceries and gas. Looks like everything else for a while is going on this 0% credit card I just got.
