I was looking for the Amazon Visa sign-up link for my daughter this week since she wants to buy an iPod. I noticed that they have a new "Blue" variety which in addition to the standard 3 points per dollar spent at Amazon also gives double points for purchases at Gas Stations, Restaurants, and Drugstores. I know there are better deals for gas and drug stores out there, but they're giving double points for the first 90 days, and when I called to convert my existing "black" variety I was told that I would also get the double point offer. Also, my standard restaurant card is my Costco AMEX (3%) and this at least gives me a non-1% card for places that do not take AMEX (like a Chinese takeout place I like). The only possible drawback to the card is the rep told me the points expire after 24 months; I am not sure if the old variety also had this rule. There are allegedly other redemption possibilities on the new card (vs an automatic $25 Amazon GC when you get 2500 points) but the rep did not know about those.
Amusingly, my daughter was not being offered the Amazon Visa card when she went to check out, they were offering her some Amazon store (non-Visa) card. I had to send her the link to apply directly. Sadly she got deferred so she has to wait before ordering her iPod. I figure it will be worth it since she'll get $30 back for signing up.
Oh one more thing.. in an old thread here talking about Amazon Visa coupons (link) someone claimed to have gotten an offer for double points for college expenses. Has anyone managed to get this credited with their Amazon Visa?
You can also look into Citi's MTVU credit card. It gives you 5 Thank You points for every dollar spent in bookstores and restaurants. Amazon counts as a bookstore so you get 5 points per dollar spent. I use it whenever I eat out, too!
Thanks, I did not know that the MTVu card included Amazon in their 5% category. My daughter actually has that card already. But the $30 signup bonus for Amazon's Visa card beats 5% in this case.

I was going to switch my old Amazon Visa to the new Amazon Visa, but they told me the new one has a 60,000 point limit per year and the old one doesn't have a limit as far as I know.

Does anyone here actually have this card? I hear there's a signature card, which would mean it has the extended warranty features, etc. Can anyone confirm?
It seems like there is a Signature card available, but the one I have doesn't seem to be one (maybe because they converted me from the other card).
That said, my Amazon card is registered at the Visa Extended Warranty site and was deemed to be eligible. So you don't need to have a Signature card to get the extended warranty coverage.
Well, there is another thread about this card in Hot Deals here. But the good news is that it really does pay double points for educational expenses. I got double points for my daughter's college tuition, and because I'm still in double points for converting the card, it turned into triple points.

Use one of the card bonus signup links. Cardselection.com paid me $25 to sign up for the MTVu card. Additionally, I buy a ton of my textbooks off of Amazon marketplace so the 5% adds up quickly.
